I like Geekie and don’t really want to trade him, but someone who makes 1.5m or more is going to require a roster player. I think this years cap shortage is asking for overpaying for just 725k of retention
Under no circumstance is he a salary dump. He’s actually a bargain at his salary and a useful player.</div></div>
Ya the only roster transaction that makes the cap work to acquire Duclair in that scenario (barring any injuries) is sending Beecher down because he's waiver exempt and Geekie can play 4C.
I honestly wouldn't hate that idea. Run with Lucic-Geekie-Lauko/Heinen as the 4th line, then bring Beecher up for the playoffs. But I get it would be sending the wrong message.
It's still so early from now until the deadline, a lot can change so it's hard to predict.

This is actually a good trade for BOS. Yes Ullmark is the starter, but they are way more likely to trade Ullmark than Swayman. They won't be able to afford both in the near future, and the front office sees Swayman as the best U25 goalie in the league, so might as well take advantage of Ullmark's trade value.

Hard disagree. His role as the 4C is to be responsible defensively, win faceoffs, and be physical. The points are a bonus.
His defensive instincts, skating and faceoff skill is NHL ready. So there's really no need for him to be in the AHL to work on those aspects of his game. The only way to get better at it now is to do it against NHL competition.

BOS can't really trade JD because it creates another hole in the top6.
If they need to trade a roster player, it will be either Gryz or Frederic. Also, they don't really "need" to trade a roster player to make the cap work. Just get a second team to retain another 50%.
Value shouldn't really be a concern if the package is Lysell + 1st + 2nd starting point.

Lindholm for DeBrusk plus
I think you're jumping the gun on having Lindholm AND Nylander in BOS next season. The cap doesn't really work. Lindholm is probably in the $8-9 MIL range, Nylander the same, Swayman needs a new contract, JD needs a new contract (unlikely he gets dealt), then need a whole new 3rd pair. Unless the cap jumps insanely big, there isn't that much cap to fill out the roster.

Early BOS Trade Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>CGY won't be selling high, but let's not pretend that they don't have <em>any </em>leverage. If/when Lindholm is available, he's clearly the best center on the market, and there could be 10+ legitimate offers for him. That bidding war offsets some of the "poor" start so far.
I wouldn't mind Columbus retaining here for a pick. We easily get outbid by a team making a legitimate push, so seeing an ACGM where he's not sent to Columbus for some mix of KJ/Marchenko/this year's 1st is a breath of fresh air.</div></div>
Oh I don't expect CGY to sell Lindholm for pennies on the dollar, but CGY fans shouldn't expect to get a ransom for him either.
In my opinion, it will look similar to Horvat's trade. Which is what I tried to re-create value wise with this BOS trade.

Selling low? CGY doesn't have that leverage assuming Lindholm isn't re-signing. Do you really want another Gaudreau incident?
I mean, I guess it depends on how CGY views Merkulov or Lysell. But this is a solid deal for CGY. It's your standard TDL blueprint for a top pending ufa.

Bruins Lines to Start
Poitras is not a winger. You will hurt his development putting him there.
Regardless if Poitras gets 9 games or not, he's not ready to handle a full NHL season just yet. His IQ, vision, and skating are NHL ready, but his conditioning and strength are not. Which is understandable for a 19 yr old, that's something he can't really control until his body grows into it.
Also, Beecher > Brown & Lauko > Greer. Lauko has waivers, you can't send him down without risking losing him, doesn't matter if it's a two-way contract. If Capfriendly doesn't have the waiver exempt symbol beside the player, he has waivers.
Agree Mitchell > Zboril.

I think Poitras is more ready then Lysell tho. Lysell has not impressed me.
I think there is a chance they give Poitras 9 games, if they do that means someone else placed on waivers. To keep him up full season is a tall task.</div></div>
Oh I'm totally with you. Poitras should get 9 games if he continues to impress. And if he does, he's definitely closer to NHL ready than Lysell. But I agree he should be sent back to juniors after, then revisit the idea of calling him back up in the new year depending on Boston's need for a top6 centre.
The other question is how much does the front office value Greer or Brown. If they really like one vs the other or are scared of losing both to waivers, that probably kills the idea of Poitras getting 9 games.
I don't see either getting claimed, but what do I know.

I don't really see a market for Zboril, I don't think anyone is high on him. Probably more likely he gets sent down than traded.
I also believe Lohrei isn't ready for the NHL just yet. He's entering his first season of pro play, he should start in the AHL. In my opinion Mitchell > Zboril from what i've seen right now.
I havn't liked what i've seen from Heinen, don't see him or Chaisson getting a contract.
I would love to see Poitras get some games with Pasta, then send him to juniors.
Beecher is making the team. Lysell is probably the next closest rookie, but could still see him starting the year in PRO. Merkulov hasn't impressed as much as I thought he would.

There's no doubt they will have a worse record than last year, but so much worse that they won't make the playoffs?
Sorry I just don't buy that, especially knowing that their dcore and goaltending remain the same. I expect them to lose 15-20 games more than last year, which would still put them in a playoff spot last year.
Obviously those extra points get dispersed but you get the point.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Celtics21</b></div><div>I can definitely see a Merkulov vs Lysell battle for one of the top 6.
If you watched at the beginning on the year, Lysell was the clear cut winner. His speed and agility was really fun to watch.
Over the course of the year, Merkulov was more consistent and his perceived defensive shortcomings were not as advertised. I’m not sure if he has the speed I’d like on the Pasta line personally.
I’m intrigued to see how Lysell come back this preseason. Talent wise, I believe he’s the clear winner</div></div>
I agree, Merkulov and Lysell are the clear two choices to compete for that last top6 spot. I gave Merkulov the edge because he's more physically ready for the NHL level, but Lysell could definitely surprise in camp from his off-season work.
I also think Merkulov fits the roster better than Lysell. I don't really like the idea of a JD-Coyle-Lysell or March-Coyle-Lysell line opposed to the lineup above, but I could be wrong, I would have to watch it in action. Whereas we've already seen what a March-Coyle-JD line looks like when Bergeron was out during the playoffs, and it didn't look that bad.
