Why isnt Holland doing this
What do you think SJ will get? Doesn’t matter how good he is, Karlsson holds the power. Everyone talking about a Penguins trade for him. Pens prospect pool is non existent. SJ loses any Karlsson trade, just like they lost the Meier trade, which Grier was in a much better position to acquire one of NJ young studs. He botched that one good.

Picture a 3 way trade.
Also, it’s not like we’re talking 7 million per. His cap hit is not crazy and for only 2 more years is not making waves for a team with a plethora of cap space, especially if they will only retain half with another team taking the other.

2020 What Should Have Been
Let’s be honest....
if you got OEL, another top prospect + a good pick as well goes to ARZ if Eriksson in that deal. Also, there’d be no salary retained because you would not have traded for Schimdt, or signed Holtny, or traded for Fleury, because trading Demko for OEL would mean you were signing Markstrom for 6 years (which you should have done).
As a Habs fan, thanks for TT.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rob32sjsharks </b></div><div>Hey why not it works
What I don’t understand is why is Brett Burns contract bad when it ends at 38 and Webber’s ends at 41! Burns plays 77-82 games a year Webber hasn’t come close to that in ..... 4 years</div></div>
Burns will be 40+ when his contract is up.
I would argue that Burns’ contract Is all relative, and only gets criticized because you have 2 other high paid Dmen who are also under contract until 40, or close to it. Karlsson, Vlasic, and Burns make over $36 mil. (Almost 50% of the cap)
Always liked burns. Big contract, but from afar doesn’t seem outrageous given his importance to the team.

Short answer = Yes

Great move IMO. Given Allen can put up similar numbers on the Habs, Price can play less games throughout the year. In theory, he should be well rested, and be dominant in the playoffs like this year.
We’ve been searching for a decent backup G for years. Totally worth it.
We still have 14 mil to spend (with only Domi and Mete as notable RFA’s).

Offloading Alzner
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HabsRafiki</b></div><div>Agreed. This makes no sense. If you want to make room on the roster, just buy him out. Otherwise, he has been a good leader/mentor in Laval and he's probably not a bad guy to have around in case the Habs ever need playoff help. As you can see, the whistles go away come the playoffs, so Alzner's ability to handle the crush in front might someday be useful again. In the meantime, he seems OK with his AHL fate.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>Why is Montreal doing this though? isn't the goal when offloading players to get cap space to sign other players? If you aren't signing any big names, than what was the point in losing quality picks to get rid of Alzner? Just let him play AHL or buy him out.</div></div>

Good points. But kind of explained it in the description.
1. Just purely posted as an idea, given NJ is a potential suitor with over 35 mil in cap space.
2. Not sure what MB should do in regards to top players available.
Of course would be a great move to free up even more cap space to acquire talent.

You mentioned trading Hudon, but he’s on your roster.
My only criticism is assuming Jimmy Schuldt gets top 4 duties (given he signs with us). But overall, wouldn’t oppose to this. Would love a real Top 4 LD over Reily though.

Not god, but top 3 goal scorer in the ENTIRE league over the last 3/4 years. Something any team would make room for regardless of a need for RW.
Sam Bennett is getting 3rd line TOI behind Monahan and Backlund with Jankowski now cementing a role on the team as well. The package I put in is more than enough compensation, especially with a 2nd round pick in one of the deeper drafts of the decade.

Petry's NMC only kicks n July 1st I'm pretty sure.
Either way, just trying to figure this thing out, because there is no way the team is staying as is, even with Galchenyuk and Radulov signed. Somehting is a brewin'

Giroux has been on a steady decline over the past 2 season and is going out of his prime. Getting way too old with that trade.
I don't mind the Gallagher trade, but no point of not having Byron and Gallagher. Protecting one of them forsure if trading the other.

This was intended as if he signed an extension with Habs.

Making sense
I'm going to have to respectfully disagree re Gunnarsson. Need a higher profile guy, logging big minutes and putting up minimum 30/35 points. Beaulieu is proven enough at a young age to be a 20 point guy, stands up for teammates, and decent in defensive zone. He's a very useful player, but just based on Habs needs at the moment, something more is needed.

I'd rather look for some defensive depth, aka Legit top 4 LD in a trade. Couldn't tell you who though......HAVING SAID THAT, if we can't sign Radulov, then help up front becomes priority.
