YAH!! This makes TONS of sense!! I don't know why Arizona would even hesitate in making this deal. OH NO!!! Wait!! Hold on!! Let's include Jay Beagle just to sweet the pot a little!! Maybe AZ will give us a 1st rounder too...

A small step back to step forward
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SDR</b></div><div>No, but please link me to that official document you are referring back too as a reference, I’d love to see what rights are worth.
I must be reading the tea-leaves incorrectly with a UFA process that excludes the “courting window” this year, a flat cap and about 12 quality “starting” goaltenders currently on the market by trade or as a UFA. There are so many goalies on the trade market this year, that their value is dramatically reduced. I think teams are going to be faced with a lot of tough choices that will force them well out of the status-quo for the hockey world.. and trading UFA rights happens, here’s an article I found with 3seconds of googling: <a href="https://businessofhockey.wordpress.com/2016/06/22/trading-for-a-free-agents-negotiation-rights-is-worth-the-price/" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">https://businessofhockey.wordpress.com/2016/06/22/trading-for-a-free-agents-negotiation-rights-is-worth-the-price/</a>
Not being totally abreast of Edm’s D-prospect positioning, I figured a guy that can come in and play now, might give them some more time for those players to mature and then deal Tryamkin for better assists later. I have little confidence in JB to make the moves needed to get Tryamkin into the Vancouver lineup and I feel the player and his Agent have soured on dealing with this management group and thier ineptitude. A change is needed for him, just like JP.</div></div>
I guess the easiest solution for JB would be not resign FANTENBERG and have Tryamkin and Benn battle it out for the 6-7 spot on the blue line watching the nuks in the playoffs I’d resign FANTENBERG and trade Benn I think Fantenberg is a better option over then Benn, I looked over Tryamkins # the last 3 yrs in the KHL and not sure many GM’s would be interested much like JP I feel they need to sign with their current teams and go out and raise their value.

Weaponizing LTIR to Dump Cap hits
The Gaborik contract is insured, so Melnyck doesn't pay much but the cap hit still counts. That's perfect for a cap floor type team like Ottawa and you're not going to convince Melnyck to spend MORE money.
I'm not sure exactly how LTIR works over the summer but I think that those 3 contracts would count against the cap until the first game of the season. If so, we would actually have LESS maneuvaribility to re-sign Hughes (10 million ish) and Pettersson (11 million ish).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SDR</b></div><div>Vancouver would NEVER make that trade. Vancouver as a City doesn't want Lucic and Lucic doesn't want to be in Vancouver or he would have signed that trash contract here instead of Eriksson.
And why have I been seeing a bunch of these where people are resigning Mazanec for 700, 800k and 900k deals? They will have DiPietro and Bachman in the AHL next year and will certainly be able to sign a better AHL goalie than Mazanec if they don't want to keep Bachman around after next or Leighton around this season.</div></div>
You don't understand. Brocklesnar needs to propose the Lucic for Eriksson trade on a consistent basis. He really really likes Lucic. The trade and the obsession with Lucic is something that makes no sense, but this is all for fun anyway.

I think TO would decline the Tanev trade but counter with Sandin. 1st round defence prospect for an aging shutdown defenceman is fair value. TO could likely add something else to get a salary retention added to the deal. But that's about the best you'll get.

Moves to make room for younger players
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SDR</b></div><div>Fair enough. I read a couple of articles and when they talked about him failing his physicals, they didn't really give off the scope of the problem being so bad that he might not be able to walk in a few years. One also sounded surprised and disappointed he failed his medical. And I know his contract isn't a cap problem currently, and given what you just shared now wont be, but I'm sure paying a guy 8.1mil over the next two years is money they might like to get off the books even if it has no impact on the cap.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quote:</div>Now onto your words about Tanev.
Would he have been exactly what TO could have used against Boston? Absolutely! Personally I love Tanev and want him on the team, however not at any cost.
There are a lot of ways Vancouver can get Tanev to TO but it won't involve either of Liljegren or Nylander. Nylander because he's way better than Tanev and not Liljegren because he's a right handed defenceman who should have went much higher in his draft year.
I used Sandin because while he looks pretty talented he's left-handed and the Leafs have a lot of depth on the left side.</div>
Again, you are focusing strictly on it being *Tanev for Liljegren,* which is not what I offered. There is a scenario where Tanev and another piece(s) will bring back Liljegren or Nylander Sure, drop Horton from the deal and you have Tanev and Hutton for Liljegren... RHD are gold in the NHL, so it's not s surprise that a lot of teams will covet high-quality RHD prospects.
Do you think a Sandin for Tanev, straight up, would be a workable deal?</div></div>
I'd take that in a second! If Liljegren was left handed I'd consider trading him for Tanev but as we've discussed at length, Right handers are gold.

I’d assume whoever trades for him is gonna extend him 5-7 years 9-11 mil per. Or the trade doesn’t happen until July 1st when he’s elidgible for the max contract for 8 years from OTT then traded, but salary should be 9 mil per minimum I’d say

Acceptable Panarin trades
He has one year left on his contract, so you are going to get rental prices, not one-for-one prices, and other teams know that Columbus is behind the eight-ball. They have to do something, or lose him for nothing. Both of those things mean that none of these scenarios can happen. I understand your thinking about talent levels, but you need to consider context. Columbus is not in a situation to win this trade. Its lose the trade by less than just losing him altogether.

cup contender
Although Tavares to EDM is interesting, and that Habs trade is also interesting, I have many issues with this team.
1. You are playing both of the dmen on your top pairing on their off sides. The only reason to do this is to tank.
2. Get Sekera off of that top pairing. Nurse at least might not be a disaster there.
3. Nurse probably costs more than that, putting you over the cap.
4. Sekera is not a 1LD, but Sekera Benning is a 3rd pair masquerading as a 2nd pair. That will not end well.
5. Tavares should not be on the PK. EvolvingWild's xG model had him as one of the NHL's worst defensive forwards.
6. That Tavares contract will end in tears once he starts to decline.Signing a 27-year old to 8 years/$11 million is not a good idea: that contract will be bad when he's thirty, and unworkable (you cannot make the playoffs with it) at 33 in all likelihood.
7. Do not use rookie-mode LTIR: take your LTIR cap hit like a man.
8. What even is the point of the DET trade?

Just gonna make a small point...for me their is a difference in draft position but not if someone goes a round earlier or a round later...but someone going in the first as compared to someone going in the 4th or 5th will play a difference in decision making, right or wrong theirs a reason he was drafted in the 1st round and they'll be more patient as compared to someone in the 5th

You want Patch, we want Vilardi... Look at the Nash trade. Boston gave a first, a young center and a great D prospect for a 32-33 years old Nash at the end of his 7 millions contract. Don't come and tell me that a 28 years old sniper with 1,5 years contract at 4,5 millions doesn't worth more than Nash. It will cost you Vilardi, a first and a second.
