Definetely think you could get one of Knies/Minten from the Leafs, unless the Sharks really value the defenceman

McCabe would be interesting, but getting Chicago to retain that much for multiple years probably doubles the acquisition cost.

Think the Rangers, Wild and Caps all easily pass. Panthers trade is interesting, but I don't think their cap situation allows for it.

After discussions with new BOS GM <a href="/users/islesforthecup" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@islesforthecup</a>, it has been agreed that the protections on the 2023 1st (ANA) will be removed. It is now an unprotected first-round pick owned by Boston. That means that Washington receives the 2024 1st (ANA) to complete the Garland trade, while Anaheim now has full control of its own 2024 3rd round pick and 2025 1st round picks unencumbered by protections.

V5 League Wide Announcements
:canucks
<strong>Important Announcement:</strong>
Following discussions amongst itself and with others in the game, the BOG has voted unanimously to remove Mike as Vancouver GM for conduct detrimental to the game, over his insensitive comments in the Twitter chat.
He will be suspended from any role in the game for 3 months, at minimum, while any potential return at a later time will be dependent upon a league-wide vote.
A replacement will be announced in due course.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>glarson17</b></div><div>Meier $3 mil retained and taking a cap dump back will cost more than that</div></div>
Definetely agree that it would take more but I wouldn't quite go as far as saying an expiring $2.25m contract is a rental.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KiSS_My_Asthma</b></div><div>I don't think acquiring Meier is a great idea for the leafs.
There's basically no chance they could make his QO at 10 million next season. Might be better to go for a straight rental, a Horvat or maybe a Kane/Toews</div></div>
I think the more likely outcome is that he signs a long-term deal at closer to 8m, maybe 9, instead of taking the 1-year deal and walking to UFA (which isn't a huge difference). It would be veeeeery difficult, but I don't think it's impossible - particularly if the cap rises around $4m as is possible

If management believed Mittelstadt and Power could step up to be their #1 and #2 centers, they could consider this offer.
Two power forwards as Anderson and Tuch at RW would be interesting.
With Thompson, Skinner, Quinn, Okposo and Krebs scoreless after five games, the Sabres are still 4-1 and took down both the Oilers and Flames.
It may prove too destructive for the Sabres to move away from a player they just extended.
The Sabres would certainly pass on this offer even though it would give them five picks in the first two rounds this yea..</div></div>
Thompson's a very good player, sure, but we're talking about potentially 3 generational talents in this year's draft. He isn't worth that, especially with just 1 year of evidence behind him as a 30+ goal scorer. Buffalo would accept that without thinking twice, particularly if Montreal looks like a bottom-3 team.

Winger Options
Why would the Leafs move Nylander? He's on a more than fair contract, has an extra year of term, and the team is firmly in a win-now direction. Same goes for Connor but an even better contract. As for Kane, I don't think the Devils are good enough to be trading for rentals yet. Meier, Boeser and Garland are interesting options though.
