Making a push before trading away some contracts
Sharks fans would be dancing in the streets, and this would make the Buch trade look good. Not a chance NYR does this.

Guaranteed To Upset Everyone
Can’t see NYR taking this trade. Laffys upside is clearly there, now that the kid line is reunited he’s been playing much better. The only way I could actually seeing it happen is if they were able to make a package using 7th overall, the other two firsts and trocheck to get Bedard (which there is no way it would happen).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jfstompers</b></div><div>So I agree Chytil could improve in an expanded role and see production increase. All numbers aside he isn't as good as Larkin is right now but he's productive in his role for sure. If in some way Detroit makes a deal with NY id absolutely love to take him.</div></div>
100% for proven vs unproven in terms of value (with Larkin being the more valuable right now). The other guy was just harping that Chytil is nothing, has done nothing, and will never be a top 6 player. I was simply making the point that I'll sign chytil for a $4-5m deal for 8 years and expand his role than give Larkin $8-9m for 8 years. The value in the $4m in savings can not be undervalued. In terms of outplaying the value of your next contract, Chytil has a lot more potential in that aspect than Larkin. Not to mention NYR get to keep the two 1st rounders in a deep draft on top of it.

You obviously don't understand ratios. But okay. I guess ignorance is bliss.
To somewhat educate you, see below:
Chytil - P/60 = 2.7; P/60 5v5 = 2.2; P/60 PP = 5.2
Larkin - P/60 = 2.9; P/60 5v5 = 2.0; P/60 PP = 4.9
Chytil is a prime example of just needing/deserving an expanded role.

LOL Chytil has 24 points in 38 games this year. He took a major step forward in the playoffs last year and brought that into this season. Its mostly 5v5 production too. He has 20 points in 38 games at 5v5 this year. Larkin has 27 in 43 minutes. In terms of powerplay, Chytil has 4 PP points in 46m on the PP, Larkin has 13 in 158 minutes on the PP. I'll keep my "major downgrade" Chytil that's 3 years younger, resign him for 3-4m cheaper than Larkin, and the two first round picks. The production is almost identical anyway.

Show me on this doll where Zary hurt you....
Go back 10 years and find me a 2nd rounder that NYR drafted that made a difference.
2019 - Matthew Robertson, Karl Henriksson
2018 - Olof Lindbom
2015 - Ryan Gropp
2014 - Branden Halverson
2012 - Boo Nieves
2010 - Christian Thomas
2009 - Ethan Werek
2008 - Yevgeni Grachyov
2007 - Antoine Lafleur
2006 - Artem Anisimov
YOU HAVE TO GO BACK 16 YEARS BEFORE YOU FIND ONE THAT HAD A DECENT CAREER. 2nd rounders are shots in the dark and FYI-- almost every year they say it's a deeper draft. Even if you go back to 2018, 4 of the 30 picks have played in 100 games and no one has more than 51 points. (hint he was one of those 4, next highest is 34). Go the next year in 2019 and only 2 players have played more than 100 games (and the highest point total is 54 points).
anything outside the top 20 picks is a real shot in the dark. it always is. its is exceedingly rare that these players go on to make a difference, and when they do it isn't for YEARS. NYR cup contention is next 3-4 years.

LOL the kid is 21 years old, and has 36 points in 36 games in the AHL. Considering we have Brodzinski, Blais, Vesey, Goodrow, Hajek, and the new guy we claimed on waivers all on the NHL roster, Zary could easily make our team. I think CGY is doing the right thing and not rushing him like we did with Lafreniere, Kakko, Chytil, Kravtsov, etc. We all saw how those guys have panned out so far. Stunted growth and development.
BTW, that 2nd round pick is 3-4 years away from actually playing a game in a NYR sweater. By that point, Panarin, Trouba, Lindgren, Kreider, are all gone. While Zary has the potential to make a difference this year. Stupid to say no to this trade.

Ahh gotcha.
I have to disagree on that. While Schneider is a good young two way defenseman, i think hughes would be best off with a full stay at home defenseman. Like Fox has Lindgren, Makar has Toews, etc. Hughes needs someone he knows will cover his risk on the back end when he jumps up. Schneider is alright but far from the best option considering he also occasionally jumps up

NYR say "Thank You, PLEASE COME AGAIN"
Zary while maybe not a potential top line prospect, has the potential to be a solid 2nd line option where CGY is probably doing the right thing by letting him play in the AHL and develop, rather than rushing him into unrealistic expectations. While he isn't slide eligible, NYR jump on the opportunity to get a decent prospect for a 2nd round pick that may or may not make an impact in the future

IDK how you were getting Schneider here. it's not like SJ had their 1st rounder in 2020. And he was never the one being traded for Miller in that rumor.

NYR potentially take that, but won't need Arizona to retain half with 5+m in deadline cap space. I could see one of those firsts also being conditional on how far they get in the playoffs and maybe Blais going the other way just to even out the total contracts. Blais deal is up at the end of the year and it wouldn't hurt SJ to take him.

3 team deal
NYR with a pretty easy decline there. Unless Boston or Vancouver extends him and retains half, there is no way to fit his pending 10+m contract he will get. So seeing that he would essentially be a pure rental, no way NYR include Schneider. But props to vancouver fans for keep trying to get Schneider.

Seider is like a Victor Hedman and Miller is a comparable to Mikhail Sergachev in terms of ‘class’.</div></div>
You really have to look at the numbers before you say Miller isn't on par with Seider.
They both have size and can skate.
They have had roughly the same number of hits the past two years.
Miller has the advantage in takeaways to giveaways
Miller has the advantage in +/-.
Both average 20+ minutes per game.
Seider has the advantage in points, but a large portion of them have come on the PP, something Miller does not really get. For reference, Miller in 180 games has 102m on the powerplay. Seider had 237m last year alone.
Seider overall had the better year last year, but Miller is starting to run away with it this year. If someone has the defensive/offensive impact charts for both I would definitely be interested in seeing/comparing them. I think that would definitely add to the story. I think both are amazing players.
Even if Miller isn't completely on par with Seider (which I'm hesitant to say), the return NYR would want would be within the same vicinity as Seider.

Deadline
if you want NYR to retain while getting essentially the same player, it'll cost you more in draft picks than the rangers give up. Especially since Gauthier has been one of the best in the league at drawing penalties this year.
Edit:
Namestnikov makes 2.5m which is 1m more than Blais, and BB is an AHLer. So with retention, you are having them take on an additional 2m in cap for worsening their draft position. If you want those players at that reduction while dumping Namestnikov, make it a 2nd rounder or 3rd & 4th rounder.
