Who Has to Add

Created by: OldSenileGuy
Team: 2022-23 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 17, 2023
Published: Jan. 17, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Honestly the main bones of the trade is Laf for Meier. And it's only worth it to make the trade if you can get Meier signed long term, which you have a much better chance doing without Goodrow's contract.

Still not sure if getting Meier signed long term could be done. And I have no idea about the value of the CBJ trade, not sure if there's gonna be a Nyqvist bidding war or not.

mistake by nyr to include laf in that deal. Meier is due a 10m QO, they cannot afford that at all

San Jose says hell no, not close. They are giving up the best piece and adding a pick while taking back a bad contract and a struggling player who is scratched. Not close at all

Even with Laf SJS laughs at that deal. It isn't even close.

Laf is a probably career 3rd liner. Timo is a bonafide top line goal scoring power forward. Not close at all.

Laf/Goodrow for Nieto/2nd is probably a better starting point.

Columbus accepts that, but that's irrelevant because San Jose certainly does not.

Damn everyone so down on Laf lol

I think he's gonna be a good player, just not here because NY has already torpedoed his development

he was scratched once lol.. and even Dach while struggling got 13th and 66th overall. Laf isn't struggling as much as he was.

Meier is going to the Devils or Canes.

He'll get a 1st, a former 1st, and maybe a roster player with salary, like Tatar or Martinook.

Without an extension, he isn’t going to NJD.

Maye an undervalued opinion here is there's no way Goodrow would accept a trade to SJS after they gave up on him. That makes it an instant fail. I still can't believe they gave him a M-NTC... when will the GMs learn

I also don't really like SJS saves much money doing this... assuming Laffy eventually starts playing well, at some point both players' contracts will equal whatever Meier would get from them. Meier already has good chemistry there and isn't an old fart or something. If I were them, I'd just stick with Meier

The sharks aren’t giving up a likely 40 goal scorer this year, a solid defender on a league minimum deal, vet forward and a pick in the 30s for a bad contract and a struggling player. That is just ridiculous to even think.

They didn't exactly give up on him. TB gave a 1st for him. They overpaid, SJS couldn't say no. He was and is still popular amongst the Sharks.

You really think he’s mad about being traded to Tampa and winning two cups? I don’t think so. Worked out well for both sides.

Goodrow seemed to love Sj, and the team built him up from being an unsigned free agent to a cup win. I think he would be fine with it

Dach wasn't sold with an unwanted contract.

If Rangers wanted Meier for Lafreniere, offer that. And just leave the other pieces, which just muddy the waters, out.

If NJD can sign him, great. But Meier-to-NJ before deadline is impossible based on what the two GMs are saying.

Devils GM says they will not spend any future assets for rentals.

Sharks GM says he will not let other teams negotiate with Meier. So teams will have to wait until after 2023 draft.

Whoever deals for Meier will do so with every intention of extending him...this leaves NYR out.
And no matter how down everyone is on LaF, he's not being dealt for a rental.

In the COL deal, the second alone probably gets it done.
