Big Four Disassemble
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mv21227</b></div><div>Did you miss that the top pairing dman who instantly becomes your best dman in Toews is also in the trade? And also O’Connor, who has more goals than every Leafs player apart from the core 4, and more points than every Leafs player apart from the core 4, Rielly, and Domi? This deal heavily favours Toronto</div></div>
The problem here is that Toronto is giving up a top player in the league but aren't getting a truly elite player or prospect in return. They get Toews who can be considered a top pair D on a lot of teams but absolutely isn't a #1 defenseman. Add in the depth scoring you mentioned which is good and all but trading Nylander to get this package would be pretty stupid for a team that wants to go deep in the playoffs. Toronto needs a number 1 defenseman more than anything right now, so to trade Nylander for anything less than that would be a bad move in my opinion.

Term
Trading a 21 year old in his first full NHL season during which he's contributed well as a top line forward would be a huge mistake. Doing it for a modest upgrade like Hertl would probably get the GM run out of town. Knies is a borderline untouchable right now. The package would have to be really good for the leafs to consider it and this proposal doesn't really do it unfortunately.

Big Four Disassemble
Before this season started this package might have been enough to get it done, considering he was going to be UFA anyways. With him becoming a top 15ish player in the league this season and signing an 8 year contract it would take quite a bit more to acquire him than a late first, 2 seconds, Girard, and some left overs. I would expect either an A tier prospect or multiple first round picks to be involved. And trading him would probably ruin any chance the Leafs have at a deep playoff run.

Big Smoke this is our final offer
I'm of the mind that it's a terrible idea to give up a first round pick for a rental unless they're going to give you a legit chance of winning the cup. I don't see Tanev as that much of a difference maker so it would be wiser to go after someone with term left on his contract.

Leafs Get Their Guy
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BDHockey</b></div><div>I would cry if the blues ever move Jake Neighbours.</div></div>
I'm not really sure why. He's a good prospect and all, but it's not like he's one of the best prospects in the league. 26th overall pick who's 21 years old and has had decent but not mind-blowing production. This trade proposal isn't enough but it still wouldn't take several first round picks to get him.

Tor-NYI
The Islanders are still in the hunt for a wild card spot so I can't see them being huge sellers right now. That could change in the next few weeks but they would definitely want more for Dobson. One of Toronto's best prospects would need to be included, plus one or two first round picks.

Supposedly the Flames have been asking for a second plus for Tanev, not necessarily a first. Since Toronto doesn't have a second they would have to give a up a first round pick, but reports suggest Treliving would want an additional piece for that price.

Agreed. There is no incentive for the Sharks. Also, the Leafs don't need to trade Klingberg since he's on LTIR and won't play the rest of the season anyways. They could try to offload Reeves but not for a first or for Minten.

Everyone should be pretty happy
Not a bad trade proposal! I feel like the Rangers might try to switch to a 2025 first with the condition that Marner has to re-sign. The rangers would get a star winger that would help them compete for a cup the next couple seasons. Flames do pretty well in getting a decent prospect for Tanev who they'll likely lose at the end of the season. Toronto swaps offensive firepower for a solid defender and excellent prospect + draft pick. It fills a need for each team! Marner could always just turn it down though since he has a no trade clause.

Rebuild on the fly TOs not going anywhere with divas
Rebuild? This isn't good enough of a return to help them rebuild. Trading 1 and a half seasons of Marner for a solid prospect in Geeky, and a bunch of ok prospects that might end up being depth NHL players if they're lucky. The two goalies are a wash as they've both sucked this season. This doesn't really help the Leafs now or in the future, and it doesn't help Arizona as Marner won't be enough to make them contenders.

Yeah, the Leafs need to offer something that the Blue Jackets would actually want. Decent defenders are expensive right now so two fourth rounders and a bunch of cap-dumps aren't a very enticing offer.

Nylander comes home
Huberdeau's contract is untradeable at the moment, even at 50% retained. He's not playing like a 5+ million dollar player, and he's got 7 more years on his contract. Maybe he'll get back into form but that's a big risk. Toronto might not even take him for future considerations let alone giving up Nylander.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MoxNix</b></div><div>There's absolutely no way Calgary trades Andersson who isn't being shopped in the first place.
They won't be trading valuable assets for an expensive rental either. Willy would have to come with a long term extension but Andersson still wouldn't be on the table. Hanifin and/or Tanev sure maybe even Weegar but definitely not Andersson.
And no we don't really want a goalie coming back but can live with a goalie like Samsonov who makes less money and is a pending UFA.</div></div>
If Toronto called up Calgary and said they'd trade Nylander and he wants to sign a long term extension with them, Calgary would 100% trade Andersson. He isn't being shopped but it's not like he's untouchable. I doubt Nylander would be willing to do that so it's a moot point anyways.

TOR CHI make room for Nylander Extension fix D
For a player like Marner Chicago would need to give up more than this. There needs to be a top prospect involved or a high first round pick. Managers won't give up a high-end player for several decent pieces unless they want to lose their job.

These Nylander to Calgary trades don't make a whole lot of sense. The flames don't need a star player when they suck so much, and the Leafs would expect a lot in return if they were going to entertain that idea. So yeah, the flames don't need Nylander and they aren't offering enough to have any chance of landing him anyways.

Toronto is getting fleeced in this trade. All three Flyers are having a great start to the season, but Sanheim in particular is going to fall back down to earth. At least the flyers players have more term but Toronto definitely gets worse with this trade so I can't see them doing it.

Screw it
I think it's a decent trade, but Samsonov/Woll would need to be included, or both teams would need to follow it up with a separate trade. Toronto would have too many goalies and Nashville would need to replace Saros with another starting goaltender. I think the Preds take too much of a step back in net for them to agree to it. Maybe later in the season if they give up on making the playoffs.

By mediocre I mean he didn't look great in his short stint in the NHL, which I'm aware is a small sample size. You expect most top-5 NHL prospects to at least look decent at the NHL level pretty much immediately, which is a big part of why he's dropped a bit in most people's prospect rankings. He still looks like a great prospect, but I'm personally less convinced that he's going to be a superstar.

Nylander is asking 500-1M more than he's worth, but he's also significantly better than Terry. The Ducks won't do it since they just resigned him, but I don't think the Leafs would do it either unless there's no other offers. Terry's locked in for 7x7 and he's already 26 with only 2 good seasons behind him. He hasn't even broken 70 points so there's quite a bit of risk involved. I don't love it for either side.

Tough....</div></div>
Wright's status as 'one of the best prospects in hockey' took a hit this past year. He's still worth more than robertson and a couple low picks, but if he has another mediocre season his value will keep dropping, in which case a trade to recoup some assets and give Wright a change of scenery might make sense. I think it's a bit early for that though.

The only player I would be interested in is Dobson but thats not happening. As a leaf fan though I am looking at all this from A Toronto perspective.</div></div>
Absolutely agree. Giving away Nylander and taking Pageau would require a really great young player in return-basically Dobson, but the Isles wouldn't do that for 1 year of Nylander.

Fiala - Dubois - Nylander line
There's no reason for the Leafs to make a trade if the value is going to be this low. Nylander for 1 year is better than an ok defenseman and a 22 year old 4th rounder who has only proved himself at the AHL level.

If Toronto want Rielly to get points do this
Lee and Mayfield are both quite overpaid and they have term left which is unattractive. Wahlstrom is now 23 and looks like he might never break out in the NHL. The Leafs get what will likely be a mid-low first round pick and some not so great pieces. Keeping Nylander at a great cap hit for 1 year sounds like the better option here.

Karlsson for Willy
Yeah, I think the Sharks are finding out that Karlsson's trade value isn't what they thought, but at the same time it won't ever be higher so now is the time to trade him. I don't think Toronto will give up that many assets for Karlsson unless there's 50+ percent retained, or if they're over the cap during training camp and they need to make a desperate trade.
