RJ was going to be a risky bet to me though, even at $4m/year.

At the TDL last year, the Bertuzzi trade wasn’t reported by the media until 3 minutes after DET sent out a press release. No insider info coming out of DET.
The quotes the articles posted are using come from a podcast over a week ago, where Friedman and Marek said they can’t see Debrincat going anywhere but DET. No new info was shared by either poster. The same site said Larkin was on his way to COL at the TDL last year and it was a done deal, and then an hour later DET announced his extension.

Yep, not a reputable source on the return. And why would Yzerman let OTT hold him up waiting to see if a prospect is available at 17 before pulling the trigger (and potentially missing out on other deals)? Sounds like spitballin' to me.

Yeah, no source, reputable or not, has posted a "handshake" deal. Yzerman doesn't work that way anyway, most of the league won't know what happened until DET puts out a press release.

Heard that no 1st for PLD return from LA... so It is ONE big piece (Player or good 1st round pick)+ added value is the right value.</div></div>
Difference between PLD and Connor is contract length. Connor has a couple of years left, while PLD has 1. WPG could hold out Connor until next year, they aren't forced to do anything right now.
And depending on which rumor you believe for PLD, either Villardi or Byfield along with others are heading to WPG. MTL doesn't have someone of that ilk available to trade, maybe Dach + if you want a closer comparison. So if a guy that has 1 year left on his contract is commanding NHL players, imagine what a guy with 2 years left on his contract (plus, is a top player in the league) would command.

MTL will need at least 2 1st round picks for WPG to bite. Farrell is a good prospect, but Harris is just ok. Neither will make up for the loss of Connor, which is where the picks would come in.
Based on your DET trade, WPG would want 9, 17, Farrell, and probably Beck to get Connor.

For as much as I'd love to see Martinez come home (this one hits very close to home as I used to watch him play back in Honeybake, and we are from the same part of town), I don't think it'll happen anymore, there really isn't any room for him on the roster in DET, unless they don't think Johansson is ready with Edvinsson out for the first few months.

I can't see PHI or WSH trading back, as they'd be interested in Michkov as well. ARI has the capital to wait for Michkov as well. You'd need to get the MTL to trade #5 to have a real chance. I'm not sure Steve will pay the #5 price.

If teams didn't play guys that did something stupid during a game, 25% of the league wouldn't be playing. How many guys got suspended this year for dirty plays (which is exactly what Veleno did, I see that during men's league games pretty often)? From all levels too (stars, scrubs, and in between).

You can definitely get Durzi for less than a 1st round pick. One of the 2nds would work.
If Granlund and Petry only had 1 year left on their deals, I think Steve would consider this. But since they have 2, based on what he said today, he won't.

Hit the gas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wjdjdkf</b></div><div>Some great points. But I think Detroit’s biggest issue is top end NHL talent. Harder to find that via draft and free agency. Adding two 40 goal scorers and a top four D man should make this team competitive today and moving forward.
Hanifin wants out of Calgary and the rumor mill is swirling? Is there any package Calgary could create to make this work? Would Wallinder be enough going the other way. Trying to be realistic. Conroe isn’t an idiot and you have to give to get. Edvidsson looks like a blue chip prospect and you’d need that to make a deal liek this work.
And yes as stated obviously dependent on ability to sign long term.</div></div>
If Steve is going to trade a Dman, it'll be Wallinder, who is very boom/bust. Wallinder has a top 2 ceiling, but also a Euro-only contract floor (a pretty wide variance). Johansson could be a piece going as well. Kubalik is just a throw-in (which I don't understand why everyone thinks DET is going to trade Kubalik, he's a goal scorer on a team that can't score goals). I would even throw in a 2nd rounder in 2023 to make a Wallinder/Johansson/Kubalik deal work, and even add the 3rd rounder for Vladar.
I just think if Conroy is going to move 2 of his best players, unless he has some magic in the bag, he might as well blow it all up, because they won't be a playoff team next year.

Edvinnson is one of the best D prospects outside of the NHL, so the return would have to be very high. I can't see 2 guys on expiring contracts being the guys that Steve would trade Edvinsson for, even with extensions becoming part of the package. Steve is going to start eating cap up with Seider and Raymond needing contracts soon, along with Larkin's extension kicking in. Lindholm and Hanifin would be in the Larkin range (7-8.5m) with term. A lot of money for 5 guys when your primary issue is depth.
CGY only does this if they are going to go full rebuild. Might has well sell Huberdeau, Toffoli, Backlund, Kadri, et al at the same time. Don't think Conroy is there yet.

All in
That is probably the kind of deal EDM would have to make to get Perron from DET. It's an overpay, but not a major one, but EDM would have to overpay to get any retention.
Petrov is a pretty good prospect, big, shoots right handed, and is in the CHL (so no Russia issues). Will need a little time in the AHL, but is a good asset down the road. As a righty, can play both wings (though, he's played his off wing for his CHL career).
Foegele is a bottom 6 guy that can play in the top 6 in a pinch (2nd line only). His usage was up this season (though, in less games), and some of his warts came up, but is a positive guy on the ice in shot and chance differential.
Obviously, the first is a later first, as EDM will be a playoff team. But, it could be packaged by DET to another team to improve the now, especially getting a prospect like Petrov.
I don't see how this makes EDM better. It makes the 2nd line better, but weakens the 3rd/4th lines. EDM's issue is depth, and if I was Holland, I'd have a hard time cutting into my depth. Petrov has an NHL body now, could end up being a piece next year, along with what Foegele brings.

big summer for Detroit
No way would DET give up the 9OA for Debrincat. I don't even think they'd give up the 17OA either.
And I don't think Steve has any interest in moving the 2024 BOS 1st rounder, as it could be a lottery pick. BOS is going to lose a few people, and they have no cap space.

Something different
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>csick</b></div><div>Comments from Craig Button scared me a little. He said the market for a 5’7 winger is very small no matter how good of a scorer he is. Dorion is in a tough spot. They gave up a 1st, 2nd and 3rd and the best thing they could do is probably hold on to him till the deadline on a 1 year deal, hope he has a career year and get similar to that return from a contender (late 1st, 2nd, 3rd).
Idk how knowledgeable he is but that doesn’t sound promising</div></div>
Button is typically pretty clued in. He's the most accurate mock drafter over the last 5 years, even passing Bob McKenzie, and that's because of his front office connections. With the ownership situation seemingly coming to an end (though, not anytime soon really), OTT will have a decision on trying to squeeze out 1 year (and making the playoffs this season), or getting as much value as they can for Debrincat before the draft. If he's not traded at the draft, he probably won't be traded until the TDL.
Staying in OTT would be bad for Debrincat, unless his numbers shoot way up in his 2nd season. If he has another 60point season, he'll probably kiss $8m/year goodbye on the UFA market.
The deal listed is probably what Steve would want to get Debrincat, I can't see him going much further (definitely not including a 1st rounder). Losing Berggren wouldn't be great for DET, but he'd be "replaced" by Debrincat. Kubalik would be a short term replacement for Debrincat in OTT, and a flippable asset if they aren't in position for the playoffs.

Wings Draft Day Trade
That's probably close to "value", but it'll never happen. It would crush DET's depth (if we look at the last few SCF winners, they were DEEP teams). Yes, DET needs a superstar (as does CHI), but a superstar alone doesn't win cups (as McDavid, or Yzerman).
