Mikheyev's agent can ask whatever he wants, doesn't mean he'll get it. Not sure why we have to have all these debates. Every Isles fan here has balked at trading the 13th or Beau for him. We don't want him......Get it?

As an Isles fan, I see Girard > Beau. We're hoping to get a 1st for Varlamov, so sending a 2nd to make up the difference between Girard and Beau helps us get that 1st.
Now the Isles can turn around and sign a back-up goalie for under 2 million.

It would be in a package for Fiala IMO. Obviously the Islanders add way more. But one for one I think it probably takes a pick around 50-60 OVR.
If you wanted to do Bellows for Kulikov, the Wild could very well add a future 2nd or 3rd, islanders add a 6th or 7th and it all evens out. Bellows has some skill but Trotz destroyed his development so itll be interesting to see if the Islanders try to scrap any value he has left in a trade or hope that he can become what he was supposed to be

Reading the tea leaves from Isle fans it seemed like they wanted to keep Wahlstrom over Raty (Raty still a year away maybe?) Hence why I went with Raty instead of Wahlstrom in the package. If OTT offers 7 OA and a prospect, the Isles will have to beat that. Not sure how they beat that with anyone but Wahlstrom or Raty and the first. And if they don’t want to that’s fine, he’ll go to OTT or another place. Fiala has plenty of suitors and OTT has shown significant interest in him. Dorian is also pretty desperate to get them back to the playoffs.</div></div>
Lol I disregarded the blog, because it’s a random Joe Blow who likes his team. He doesn’t have access to any other information than we do. As far as I’m concerned, he’s just as credible as anyone on this site.
I agree with you on a lot of what else you said, though. This is a good example of how to beat the OTT 7th OA. There will be multiple suitors. It’s not an outrageous opening ask in the negotiations. And there are some GMs with seats warming up.
I would be very happy with this return, but I just don’t think we get something quite this rich.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheHebrewHammer</b></div><div>And if they don't make the playoffs you are still getting an early 2nd-round pick. Which still has some good value. Salo is gonna be their 3rd line LD this season. Salo is probably our only prospect at the moment that is NHL ready and he fills a need at LD on the 3rd pair.
I don't know I just feel like the Islanders will have other options that won't cost a better goalie, a move back in the draft, a NHL ready prospect, and another potential 1st rounder for 30-year-old LD and a goalie who has been average the past few years. For example a guy like Brian Dumoulin, he is cheaper and the same age, yes he is less offensive but it would cost the Islander a 2nd maybe less</div></div>
That's fair, but I do think Orlov is better than Dumoulin.

He's probably WSH's best overall D-man and would likely slot in the first pair in 10-15 teams in the league. He'd be an amazing partner for Dobson.
Plus Lamoriello likes his vets.</div></div>
It's not necessarily a deal I'd hate, but I think it's a biiiiig price to pay. If you take out Salo or just drop that conditional pick further down the ladder, I think my eyes would bug out a little less.

Kickstarting a retool
I think the Isles pursue other moves if this is the best Washington has to offer. Orlov beefs up their LD2, but they're downgrading in goal, giving up their most NHL-ready D prospect, trading down in this year's first and giving up a conditional 1st next year. They could get 80% of the player that Orlov for a fraction of the cost by throwing a 3rd at Boston for Mike Reilly and then move Varlamov somewhere else for more of a return.

I understand getting mayfield but colorado shouldnt sell girard off his worst season in yrs and the isles shouldnt sell off beau on a low yr. Even if nyi took this deal, pelech/pulock is pair 1, you cant really do girard/dobson as a pair 2 and you don’t have the option of playing girard with mayfield in this scenario</div></div>
As an Islander fan I'd do this deal and run
Pelech - Dobson
Girard - Pulock

Islanders give up the better player on a better contract. It's gonna cost more than a 2nd and a 5th next year to get him out - if you're not going to give them a nice package for that, they'll just keep him as their RD3 and get back to contending with him next year.

Clutterbuck has been better than Martin, but that's not hard to do. Martin has been one of the worst forwards in the NHL this season, clutterbuck has played like a replacement level forward. It makes more sense to sign czarnik for 775 k than overpay a 35 YO clutterbuck.

While the Isles would be open to moving Wilde they would not be looking for another older W. Isles need either a prospect swap or to include Wilde in a package for a LD with the Wild doesn’t have unless your willing to move Brodin which your wouldn’t be as he is really good.

Assuming Dobson gets 3.5 mill on a bridge and Salo (their 2LD next season) gets 900k-1 mill, that leaves them with around 9 mill. That's even before trading Varlamov -theyll trade him but they don't lack leverage because they don't have to trade him, they aren't in cap hell.

undervalued players
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheHebrewHammer</b></div><div>Why sign a 30 Tartar at 3 years 4.5 AVV? I'd rather use that money to sign a better goalie than Dell. Or bring back Casey who I think will take a hometown discount to stay on the Island and we can keep the 4th line intact. Or give Pelech more money/more length on his contract. The Islanders are old enough I just don't see the need to sign an older guy. I also don't love that you have traded away all of our draft capital. We would be so bad in 3-5 years and we already have a pretty shallow prospect pool. I think Leddy is worth at least a 3rd or 4th.</div></div>
Tatar is one of the most underrated forwards in the NHL, a legitimate 1st line winger. He's as good as Taylor Hall. I would be against giving him more term but I think 3 years is well worth the risk and it's highly likely that he will provide excess value. Cizikas is on the decline (this season was the worst of his career) and the 4th line suffered as a result. The 4th had by far it's worst impact since trotz became HC. They are all older and injury prone, you don't invest a ton of $ and term in to a 4th line. Cizikas will want 3 mill x 4 at the very least, and that would be a disaster.
The players I targeted with the draft picks are young, top of the lineup players and I didn't trade the 2022 1st. Dunn was a top 20 defenseman in the league in 19-20 season. Labanc had a top line impact this season and was among the leaders in points per 60 min on his team, but his coach didn't increase his ice time, similar to what trotz does with younger players even if they've earned it. I don't think Lou will come even close to selecting players as good as Dunn/l;abanc with 2nd/3rd rd picks. I'm not for throwing draft picks away considering the state of the prospect pool. but these players are young with huge upside.

I’d rather have ladd at 4.25 (buried) than parise at 7.5. He’s a 4th liner and was a healthy scratch in the playoffs. Parise fell off a cliff this season
