Cost Certainty

Created by: MNBassman
Team: 2022-23 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 26, 2021
Published: Dec. 26, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Scenario: Wild make the playoffs and bow out in the 1st round…again.
I’m conflicted! I can’t decide if I want to keep Fiala because of his insane skill and potential, or if I should listen to my gut and believe he is a diva and should not be a part of the Wild’s future…
For the record, I do not want to trade Dumba.
I’m tired of the popular narrative that the Wild will never trade Zucc because of his friendship and on ice chemistry with Kaprizov…it’s ridiculous! Boody and Guentzel both have as much or more hockey IQ as Zucc and will replace him seamlessly!

You know you don't have to sign RFA's before you trade for their rights, even if you are implying that the acquiring team is the one signing them

But anyway, I don't see any of the other teams doing those trades, plus I don't think Bode Wilde has much if any value really, everyone just jokes about him as a prospect

Yeah, as much as it hurts, this team has to shed some salary - especially if this years run turns out to be more like a sprint instead...

But I'd try to hold on to Dumba in this scenario. With little moves (don't sign Braun, give some players more term) we can afford him and, unlike for many Wild-fans, Dumba is one of my favorite players. Sometimes he drives everyone crazy with his bad decisions, but otherwise he is a great offensive RHD that is a huge presence in the locker-room. I'd try to hold on to him and perhaps he takes a paycut after his deal is done...?

While the Isles would be open to moving Wilde they would not be looking for another older W. Isles need either a prospect swap or to include Wilde in a package for a LD with the Wild doesn’t have unless your willing to move Brodin which your wouldn’t be as he is really good.

Flyers don't have a use for Dumba if they keep Risto. Given the year he has had, what looked like a great fit really isn't. I can see merit in this deal.

Fiala: seems Wild fans are torn on his character more than anything else. For a younger club, that could prove problematic, but for the last couple years it has worked. So, I have to ask, what is the real issue there?

Isles could spend $5m better in the offseason. Package Wilde as part of a deal for Fiala is another story

hard no from PIT...
guentzel was downright dominant before his injury.... lol in the game he hurt his hand he scored two goals after he took the slapshot off the hand....what a legend!
i love fiala but not that much.....

i'd counter offer from PIT for FIala.....besides our best winger, what are minny's needs?

I like this but apparently the other teams fans don't support it. I think Wilde needs a change of scenery, but I get the isle's reluctance to adding Zuccarello's contract. I think the Fiala for Guentzel trade is closer then Pens fans suggest, but still Wild may need to add. I don't know where Konecnys value is at the moment but I like his skill set.

Guentzel + Konecny + $1m retained = Zucc + Fiala for cost and overall impact. It's just trading to make trades, so meh.

I don't like this team. Rossi and Beckman look nowhere near ready to be in the NHL. It's a very small and not physical d-corps.

Not sure why you think Rossi is nowhere near ready, he has been great in the AHL. Beckman could stand to round out his game a bit more but nowhere near ready is it bit of a overstatement. as far as the undersized defense that is what it is. i agree it could be larger but Guerin addressed that a bit with the Kulikov, Merrill, and Benn additions. to your point i think if the Wild could get more physical on defense it would go a long ways for the team. lets not pretend that Dumba is a big physical force out there he might be one of the more physical guys the Wild have on D but at 6 feet and 180Lbs he is not a force.

Statswise Rossi looks great, his overall game doesn't look good. At best he's a guy you put as a 4th line energy wing and maybe some PP time. Dewar and Rau have noticeably better games and neither of them are guys I want playing in the NHL.
