making a deal work 22-23 TDL
I think this a little short. The 1st and Chicago 2nd are more or less a wash since there shouldn't be much difference. JP doesn't carry a lot of value (Hawks didn't qualify Strome at close to same amount) and Foegel is a cap dump for a 2nd (a little inflation due to TDL). So Toews retained and Lafferty for a 3rd. Can't imagine Hawks do that.

Major Turn around
Think it's going to cost more than a 2nd and 5th to dump both Myers and Pearson. There are plenty of ufa for Chicago to get to cap floor or more desperate teams willing to pay more.

Mot sure Hawks would have interest in Stanley, not because he is bad but he is redundant of the strength of their prospect depth.

deadline moves
Why the protections on the pick in Toews trade if it would only change about 10-ish spots at most still topping out in the bottom of 2nd round? I'd think either just give the 2nd or have it be conditional to a 1st.

Toews Kane Dumba and Greenway Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>WildForTheCup</b></div><div>Don’t need to retain anything if they trade Dumba, but less retention = less going back to CHI. Don’t think a second would be added with their NTC. The return should be fair depending on the list of teams they would like to be traded to, especially if they would like to be traded to the same team to stay together and make the transition easier.</div></div>
That's some pretty specific stipulations that Toews and Kane only agree to go to same team. Hawks can retain more so Greenway doesn't need to be included.

For retaining on Toews and taking cap dump of Smith, I'd think the return has to be a lot better.

Toews Kane Dumba and Greenway Deadline
Is the retention for Kane and Toews supposed to be more? If Hawks are retaining, don't think 50% would be any different than 25%. Would like to see the '23 2nd in the deal going to Hawks as well.

Timmons has to stay healthy too. Given Hawks D prospect depth, rather replace him with something else.

One hit from Tom Wilson could end anyone's playoffs this season.

I definitely think Toews is a better option for Leafs than Kane. Just seems like a natural fit in their lineup with what they already have. Can't argue against ROR either. They are both similar type of players.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>he has a hip impingement labral tear he's been playing through for a couple of seasons; a lot of the general population has this. Pain management, rehab training is what he's been relying on, doesn't really get worse so to speak. He opted not to do surgery in the offseason as he would be out 3 to 4 months. He took a bad hit on the hip last week and decided to rest it as the Hawks are obviously tanking so the pain to play through it isn't worth it. His performance is probably more related to him being disengaged...you can see it on the ice.</div></div>
I watch him first hand quite often, disengaged is a pretty accurate term for last month plus. Not sulking but just the realization of the surroundings. I really do think playing in meaningful games and playoffs gets him snapped back to a true difference maker.

Take the 5th and Dumo out of Hawks trade and Hawks might do it. It's Penguins responsibility to flip Dumo or pay another team to do it.

Don't think the Hawks would be interested in that. Zboril doesn't add anything and Smith is a cap dump. So a 2nd in '25 shouldn't get McCabe and AA.

You're right. Seems like most traded are assuming Toews/Kane will only go to a specific team. Of course, as a previous post said, why would Toews only want to go to a team that isn't assured of a playoff spot?

Toews plus a 2nd this year for first next year is light. Take out the second and players from COL and Hawks might take that.

Playoff contender
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Buffalove</b></div><div>It ABSOLUTELY matters where the Sabres would play him
Bc they would be more willing to pay more for a partner for Power (for example) on the 2nd pair, who will play 20+ minutes a night VS a guy who would play on the 3rd pair 15min a night
Of course, there could be other teams that might be willing to pay more- but that doesn’t mean the Sabres will get into a bidding war- they’d just look elsewhere
If the market says we have to pay a high 2nd to get McCabe,
I think we’d be out of the running & go after a different defenseman</div></div>
I get it. If you're looking for a 3rd pair guy, that isn't McCabe.
