He could be flipped in the offseason.. or would only be there for a year.. so not a huge commitment here.. For a trade sending Tarasenko to EDM (which I think is a great fit) to happen, it has to be money in money out because of EDM’s cap situation.

Dream offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>No Slafkovsky, no Reinbacher, no Montreal 2024, no call back.
Quantity (and much of it isn't even A-level quantity -- who wants Christian Dvorak?!?) doesn't equal quality. You wouldn't trade Cole Caufield for that, so why should Anaheim accept it for a guy who's performed at the same level?</div></div>
I think you are undervaluing Mailloux here. He projects as a top-4 NHL D and is performing very well in his first year as a pro (named an all-star). Many scouts see him as an A prospect. + RHD is a need for ANA with only Luneau as a quality prospect in the pool.
Farrell is also having a good first pro year and projects as a top 6 forward. He is a B+ prospect.
Dvorak was just a throw in for the Ducks to have a bottom 6 C and to even out money. Clearly not a key piece here.
The 2025 first from MTL would be a high pick (could be top 10).
So, if it ends up being a top-10 pick, an A prospect, B+ prospect + roster player for Z, I don’t think we’re that far as you’re implying.

Glass isn't a lost cause yet, and Harris does nothing for NSH. The Preds don't have room for another defenceman, this season or next (when Stastney and Del Gaizo aren't waiver eligible anymore). The prospect of Glass working through his current struggles and being able to contribute more to NSH's weak center depth is worth a lot more to them, than adding an adequate but unspectacular warm body to their bottom pair.
There's no way MTL unloads Anderson's contract this painlessly. Especially not to a team that doesn't have the option of buying him out.</div></div>
Barrie will be gone and I could see Carrier testing out the market this summer. There would be room for Harris in this scenario.
As for NSH’s center depth : what if MTL throws in Monahan and NSH sends a pick?

Some options
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Burnout</b></div><div>No they don't. Montreal has two centers who are done for the season and are likely to trade a 3rd at the deadline. They need someone to play center a lot more than that return.</div></div>
This year doesn’t mean anything for the Habs. They’ll trade Monahan, but will get Newhook back at some point who can always finish the season at C.
So they could call up Andersson and be okay.
It would be a terrible center line but who cares - they want a high draft pick again

Habs probably accept this even though Evans does a good job as a 4th line C at a reasonable cost.

Even though they could probably get more by trading these 3 players individually, the Habs should probably accept this just to offload Anderson’s contract

Exactly, there is no incentive from the MTL side to do this trade with such unused cap space

Chances are he won’t keep this pace for too long. I’d keep him in the AHL as long as possible so he can either keep dominating or even face some adversity at some point during the season. If he can go through a slump in the AHL and learn how to find his game again after that, it will be a valuable learning experience for him to make sure he’s ready for the NHL.

That’s exactly what I’m thinking. Barron will likely be sent down to start the year just because of his contract situation and be the first call up in case of injury. They won’t want to risk losing Lindstrom or Kovy through waivers.
Maybe Wideman gets sent down, but I’d rather have him as a 8th D than one of the young guys. Barron could play top pairing minutes in Laval on a promising team, with Mailloux playing on the second pairing giving you a good 1-2 punch in the AHL.

Realistically, Beck will be sent back to junior and play in the WJC. He will have a real shot next year. Lias Andersson is one who could push for a spot this year though.

Dach
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>I'm just not sure Harris is the type of D man the Hawks want to build around. He's not particularly gifted as an offensive player, and he's on the smaller side (under 6') and isn't particularly physical. I said the Hawks might have interest in him. Just not at the cost of Dach and/or DelMastro. Dach is probably a bottom 6 guy as an NHL'er, but he could be really good in that role. After the season DelMastro had last year, he's looking like a steal as a 4th rounder. If his development continues at the same trajectory, he's a legit top 4 NHL D man for sure. No disrespect to the Athletic, but their ratings don't necessarily reflect how the Hawks front office views a particular prospect. The Hawks are very high on DelMastro. As stated by Snowhawk above, the Hawks aren't trading away 20 y.o. prospects they are high on who still haven't played their first games as pro's for older guys - especially two guys in Ylonen and DeSmith who have no future with the Hawks. No chance the Hawks make this deal.</div></div>
But do you think starting Bedard’s first year with either Tinordi, Philipps or Kaiser as #1 LHD is a good thing? The hawks tried to surround him with quality veterans in Hall, Foligno, Perry, but that D isn’t looking good… I still think Harris would be worth it for them as he’s got a lot of experience for a young player

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>Hawks decline instantly. They aren't giving up two highly regarded prospects for that package of spare parts. Only player Hawks might have an interest in is Harris, but not if he costs Dach OR DelMastro. DeSmith and Ylonen are of zero interest</div></div>
The Athletic has Dach and Del Mastro ranked 8 and 12 respectively in the pipeline, so although they are good prospects, they are not the team’s top prospects.
Harris is an upgrade over any LD in the club right now and could play with Jones on the top pair given the Hawks’ lack of depth at the position.
I agree Ylonen isn’t worth as much as any of those prospects, but in the trade, Harris is the better player, while Dach and Del Mastro would be #2 and 3. Ylonen and Desmith 4 and 5.
Having Korchinski and Harris as their top 2 LD would be a great foundation for the future.

Habs fans are something else 😂</div></div>
Petry had a 15-team no trade clause so right off the bat you cut the market in half. Plus, if they wanted to flip Petry, you need to find a team that has cap space for his initial cap hit. Not an easy task.
And by the way, I never mentioned Dubas retained salary by kindness.. I’m saying the exact opposite: he did it because he had to do it.
