Johnson is still a good depth defenseman. Last season through 67 games he registered 183 hits and 97 blocks and spent 60.2% of his ice time deployed in the dzone. For comparison, If you adjust Hjalmarsson stats from last season to what he would produce in 67 games, he would come end up with 49 hits and 111 blocks

Filling in the gaps
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BStinson</b></div><div>He’s 35 and his body isn’t what it was even 3-4 years ago. Not to mention he is a RD signed for four more years at 6.875M in a flat cap era when we have a strong RD group in Hronek, Seider, Lindstrom, and Tuomisto so he’d be blocking development ice time. He also has a NMC.
Beaudin is a decent prospect low chance at being a top 4D and he wouldn’t even be our top LD prospect (McIsaac, Johansson, Cholowski) would be over him.</div></div>
Antti Tuomisto isn't going to be NHL ready for two or three years depending on how his time in Denver goes (especially with COVID), Seider has at least another season before he will become an NHL regular and would probably benefit more playing in the minors getting consistent top line minutes than being in and out of the lineup playing with different defensive partners, and as for Lindstrom, I haven't watch him enough to have an opinion on whether he is NHL ready. With Seabs I would assume the lines would look like this:
DeKeyser-Hronek
Nemeth-Bowey
Seabs-Lindstrom

Potential top 4 defenseman in Beaudin and, despite Seabs not being the player he once was, he's a good leader with great experience to help lead a young team. Not to mention they don't have Green anymore and I think that part of Seabs demise is his lack of opportunity to play.

1. The DET trade makes absolutely zero sense as Murray alone is around a 2nd round pick by himself
2. The MTL trade is just disrespectful. I know ZAR should be a Selke candidate but he is still nowhere near the value of Domi. Not to mention Domi will ask for much more money. It would make more sense to package Murray, Bjugstad, and Zar for Domi and a mid to late round pick

Younger
1. No way Jarry signs a contract with that low of a cap hit for more than a year
2. Honka has greater value than what you are offering
3. The draft pick would probably have to be a first round which, if you're trying to get younger, trading away a 1st round pick probably isn't what you want to do
4. Again trading Murray for an older top 9 player is both inconsistent with your theme and doesn't help with the rebuild

Realistic
1. Mitchell is not a lock at all. I wouldn't be surprised if he takes the same path as Boqvist
2. Murphy is arguably the Hawks best dman when it comes to actually playing defense and I don't see him getting moved
3. I think DeHaan gets moved over Maatta just because of age and injury
4. Considering Kubs scored 30 goals as a rookie, I have a feeling his bridge deal will be closer to Laine's bridge deal in the 2x5mil range
5. I think every Hawks fan would rather see Lankinen take over as a backup rather than Delia

Flat Cap CBO No Strome
I like some of the ideas here but rumors are that DeHaan will be moved before Maatta, if we want Seabs gone Hawks are going to have to buy him out because part of the problem is that Seabs won't waive his NMC clause, I rather keep Krys as he's only had one season of pro up his sleeve and I think all hawks fans want to see what lankinen has to offer, and Boone would simply be a depth piece to a team that is mainly depth players. I rather get a draft pick for Maatta. Kubs is probably going to get a similar bridge deal as Laine but maybe 5 mil instead of 6. I also don't see Mitchell starting in the pros. Maybe a callus or two but he'll be one of the last cuts made before the season starts.

If the hawks are going to be trading a dman it will probably be DeHaan. Kubalik being a 30 goal scoring rookie, his bridge deal will probably be in the $5-$7 million range

Beaudin isn't ready. Everyone else isn't an NHLer. You can probably switch Boqvist and Mitchell here, but he is our next best d-man not in the NHL.
2. This is an overpayment for Cirelli, but he is definitely better than Strome.
3. Correct.
4. Maatta is very likely going to be a cap casualty this summer, and he is by no means inexpensive. He is a #5 defenseman on any good team (aka teams that would trade for him), and 4mil is definitely too much for that kind of guy. The buyout is very cheap and allows us to improve elsewhere.
5. This is incorrect. You save a little over a million when you send guys to the minors, while the buyout would save us over two million over the next two years. No one is going to trade for him, and the extra year of the buyout is not a year where big contracts are due.</div></div>
So Beaudin played last night and he looked great :sarcasm

No way the Hawks throw in Mitchell straight out of college unless he dominates in preseason. I rather see McCoshen come up and see what he has to offer. I defiantly agree Cirelli is better than Strome but I rather have Strome at the cheaper contract. Plus you have to take into consideration the morale of the team and trading Strome away would make DeBrincat none too pleased. Maatta might be a casualty this summer but it won't be for nothing. If you put him on a team with defensemen who can actually defend, he can be a solid dman. And in terms of the buyout, Smith would cost the Hawks a little over 2 mil playing in the minors before his contract would expire. I rather pay him 2 mil at once rather than over the next two seasons. Saad will be a UFA, Nylander will be a UFA, and unless Lankinen somehow becomes the Hawks next number 1, we need a goalie next season too.

1. Mitchell will not be a first line pairing if he even plays in the NHL next year. There are so many defenseman ahead of him for call ups
2. I rather have Strome at the contract you signed him at than Cirelli
3. Cagguila has been great for the Hawks and won't cost much so he should be resigned and put on the roster
4. Why you bought out Maatta is beside me. He's young and relatively inexpensive. He could easily fetch a solid prospect or pick in a trade
5. Buying out smith is going to hurt the Hawks in the long term. You'll get the same cap relief if you put him on waivers and send him to Rockford

Askarov isn't going to be NHL ready for some time which should allow Lankinen to get plenty of opportunities. Askarov will most likely spend next season as a backup in the KHL, followed by another season as a starter in the KHL, followed by a season in the AHL, before finally getting time as an NHL backup

Hawks should draft Askarov. Definitely not in need of another dman and hawks have some solid prospects at the wing position. Hagel is looking like a top 9 player, Teply looking like a middle six winger, not to mention the Hawks have a couple prospects over in Russia who are looking pretty good too.
