How do Jets fans feel about the Monahan trade after 9 games
Obviously happy with how it's turned out so far, but I still can't believe it was an unconditional 1st considering his injury history.
There's still a lot of hockey to play, but if he stays healthy and his production remains this way for the rest of the season, then i'd even say he was a steal. We'll see.

you don't trade for a #1 RHD and just add in a cap dump (someone who scores 25 G a year) and then give back scraps.

Hmmm. I figured the Flyers would try and get that playoff spot.
Walker is a nice depth guy, but he isn't passing Morrissey, DeMelo, Dillon, Pionk or Samberg. So at best he's a lateral move with Schmidt, but the Jets have one of the best defenses in the league and have no incentive to mess with that.
That makes Walker a bottom pairing, injury insurance guy, in Winnipeg. Truthfully the Jets just need a top pairing RHD. Any other player they add on defense is just for playoff depth, since there aren't any top pair RHD available.

The Jets should resign Broissot, and find a trade partner for Apples. If Ruther is good enough to make the team, he would be fantastic with Lowry and El Nino.

Cause again their team sucks YET has ALL THE LEVERAGE because gibby 9000 says so!</div></div>
Pretty rich, coming from the most inflationary fanbase on CapFriendly.
The only Duck any Anaheim stalwart has suggested would be worth multiple firsts is Trevor Zegras.
Speaking of players whom their fans have stated are worth firsts, I'll bet that Frank Vatrano gets more than Sean Monahan, and John Gibson gets more than Jake Allen (yes, an actual Canadiens fan with "Habs" in his user name has posted an ACGM in which Jake Allen gets a first.)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Larrylnh</b></div><div>Slafkovsky will be 2 times the player that Zegras will be. Zegras is comparable to Eberle. In his 2 first season, Zegras made 65 points each season. Eberle made 42 and 76 points in his first two. They have the same style. Eberle was trade for Ryan Strome and nothing more...
Maybe Reinbacher for Zegras but still, Reinbacher will be an elite defenseman. Top 10 in the league imo. Zegras will score how many points in his prime? Like 70?</div></div>
Since you're so sure about the future, got any stock tips you'd like to share? I'd even settle for a position on the World Series winner.

Jets decline hard. Huge overpayment to dump 1 year of Schmidt, who is actually playing well this year. He’s definitely not playing at the level of his cap hit, but not enough to waste those kind of assets to get rid of him.

Both Lowry and Namestnikov are far better than Monahan. They score at the same pace as Monahan in less minutes and their scoring isn't totally dependent on PP1 time. Not to mention that they're better skaters, faster and better defensively.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>LMAO, Scheifele may be out long term after the injury last night, who is gonna fill his spot? Rumors are that the Jets were already looking for a top 6 center even before the Scheifele injury. Monahan is literally 42nd in scoring amongst <strong>all</strong> centers in the league. Considering there are <strong>64</strong> top 6 centers in the league, he is <strong>definitely</strong> a top 6 center.
As for Barron, he is better than you let on, he very well may be placed below Pionk on the D corps but that doesn't make him a bottom pairing guy, it just means that the Jets RD depth would be vastly improved.</div></div>
FYI, Scheifele is day-to-day according to Bowness (comments made just after you made your post). He may play vs PHI.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LIRIK</b></div><div>I didn't make this ACGM, but looking at their lineup, I thought Winnipeg biggest need is a 2C.
I get that you love to hate on MTL players, but realistically, after Lindholm (he's not getting traded to the Jets), the best C available at TDL is Monahan.
So hate all you want, but i'm sure Chevaldayoff would love to add Monahan at TDL.
And since he'll cost about 500K for the remaining of the season, i'm sure Jets owners would love it too.</div></div>
You can hope and wish that happens, but as you said Winnipeg needs a 2C and Monahan isn't that. He's a massive downgrade on Winnipeg's current 2C Namestnikov and Chevy obviously knows that.
That pushes Monahan to the bottom 6. He's awful defensively as well as a slow bad skater, so he has no chance of replacing Lowry. That puts Monahan on the 4th line and with only 8 ES points playing first line minutes, he's only a lateral move for someone on the 4th line.
So, why should Winnipeg risk the chemistry of a team that is playing well to overpay for a bad player that adds nothing?
I don't hate on Montreal players, just all of their plentiful bad ones that they try to push on other teams for exorbitant prices, like they are trying to do here.

The Jets 3rd line is fantastic, they don't come close to replacing anyone there, obviously they aren't top sixers, so the 4th line is the only place for them.
Hopefully Chicago does extend them.
