i think most of us are still saying he's not worth a first. getting a first doesn't mean he's worth a first. was Dvorak worth a first and a third?

Monahan isn't worth a 1st based on injuries alone, and yet the Habs still got a first for him. Instead of vehemently defending Monahan, you guys should be praising your front office. This was a great deal

No matter if he really is worth or not, fact is that everyone that did Monahan vs 1st proposals where right, and everyone complaining about it were wrong.
It is always the same, players are overpaid at TDL, and much capfriendly users don't understand that.

in fairness, most habs fans were doing, 1st round pick + teams top prospect.

and it does matter. you're dunking on people for saying he's not worth a first. that's a subjective opinion that has not been proven to be right or wrong.

How many Habs fans said the Jets had no leverage in the PLD fiasco?

People were yelled at when proposing Monahan for a first and this is exactly what happend.
1st + best prospect is too much, I did not see much of these but it's effectively delusional.
I did some Monahan for 1st + B prospect and everytime I needed to defend myself because there where always a lot of guys yelling this would never happend. ''Gm laugh at this and hang out''. Where are those guys today?

My contention has and was always he was a bad fit in COL. I still think WPG over paid and MTL seriously stuck it to both CGY and WPG, because that is some spectacular GM work taking roughly $7M of cap for a season and a half and spinning it into 2 1st and a conditional pick. But make no mistake I am super happy COL had nothing to do with it.

I can tell you every single COL fan that’s a regular on here said COL wasn’t trading for Monahan does that make us as equally awesome as you think you are?

I had Barbashev as his closest comparable. he got a late 1st round prospect from the year before. So I was saying late 1st or an equivalent prospect. Ultimately this trade is that. They added a 2027 conditional 3rd, IF and only if Winnipeg wins the cup this year. So that condition is quite unlikely. Good trade for Montreal, but it was as expected!

He’s not worth a 1st 🤷🏻, but in the jets favour - it’ll be a very late 1st round pick in just a ok draft. But still tidy work from the Habs GM

well i'm right here. i said that he wasn't worth a first and i stand by that. a desperate team paid up. it is what it is. i think they'll regret it.

Token rental price, chevy flinched a little with scheifele/vilardi/morrissey being banged up. Markets change with supply and demand, not exactly sure of the gotcha moment, but take your victory lap if you need. Was kind of hoping for a retained savard in there too, but probably too many dman all ready in Winnipeg making too much money.

It's quite literally not a subjective opinion once the trade is made. Opinion is what you think will happen, when that opinion gets factually proven wrong, then you're just wrong and it's okay to be wrong sometimes

Congrats, on getting what you received from the Jets.

Hopefully, Monahan brings what we are hopeful for a "productive 2C" going forward. The cost that was paid was a hefty one, probably driven upward by the price paid in the Lindholm deal the other day. I still have concerns about his injury history over the last couple years. As a final comment, still believe that a current year mid second round pick (45 - 52) would have been a fair return for this trade.

Many of the Mtl supporters called it as it played out. Congrats!!!!
