Jets most likely accept reunion of the Barron's but doubt mtl trades a rhd for a left shot d even if Heinola can play both sides

Why is it such a hard concept for fans of other clubs to grasp that the last thing Montreal needs is more LHD prospects? Habs aren't moving Barron for anything less than a top 6 F prospect

Weird and annoying, huh…. It’s like Habs fans not being able to grasp that WPG doesn’t want Monahan

Must be in the same vein as Habs fans not being able to grasp that WPG doesn’t want Monahan

That is reported in the media that the Jets have had discussions/interest in Monahan, only Jets fans are saying they have no interest.

No it hasn’t… not in any reputable source anywhere
Jets are reportedly targeting Lindholm, and it was reported Monahan wasn’t what they wanted… but keep trying

Serious question, but in your opinion what does WPG want? I always see what they don't want.

They don't have much cap space, and with Scheifele injured Lowry is playing 1st line C which isn't ideal. Typically top teams like WPG load up on depth for a playoff run so surely there is a price that they would pay for a guy like Monahan that can provide depth scoring or step into the top 6 (at C or wing) if there is an injury.

2C of Lindholm quality…. Monahan isn’t a top 6 anything in WPG
RHD like Barron would be very useful also

The only way the Jets can make a competitive bid for Lindholm is if the market knows he is going to be a pure rental. If Lindholm has one or two destinations in mind where he would extend, then the Jets can’t compete. Should be a fun run up to the TDL.

I’m not one of those who doesn’t think we could extend Lindholm.
If he’s looking to compete for a cup, with the team we have, I think we would have a good shot at extending him.

I think Lindholm is probably looking for a Bo Horvat type of contract. I don't think the Jets are going to pay that.

Lindholm would be great, I agree, but he will cost probably twice as much as Monahan in a trade as well so its something to consider.

Barron could be available for a potential top 6 forward, (as he is a potential top 4 D) I also think he's a good fit for the jets and makes sense as a depth pickup for a playoff run this year and long term moving forward as they don't have any notable young RHD.

Personally, I’m ok paying the price for Lindholm, as long as he was willing to extend.
As for Barron… what/who would you be thinking as a return?

Honestly I'd have to dig more into the jets prospects to answer that question but they would want a young top 6 F in return so that probably narrows it down to Barlow, McGroarty, Lambert, and Lucius.

They already drafted Mesar over Lambert, I think they have similar skillsets so they probably wouldn't go for that. Lucius has had injury issues which the habs are all too familiar with and should probably avoid. I doubt Jets would part with McGroarty and I don't know much about Barlow.

Additionally, if I was MTL I'd be shopping Matheson before Barron so it complicates things further... but if the right offer comes along I could see them trading Barron to make room on defence.

Edit: This will probably come across as crazy but for me it takes McGroarty. I see Barron as a future top 4 RHD, a potential partner for Guhle in MTL for the foreseeable future if they keep him. He is 16th in the NHL in pts for his draft class as a defenceman which puts him right around where McGroarty was selected, but I understand if the Jets aren't interested in making that swap as Barron will need a raise and McGroarty will be coming in with an ELC potentially just before playoffs.

Monahan isn't even top 6 on a bottom tier team let alone a contender. Plus he's scored half his points on the PP that he won't touch in Colorado... 29 year old projects with 2 hip surgeries aren't worth a teams best asset
