Pens - Final Answer
Not a bad idea, but Poolparty is looking a lot like sprong in this scenario. Play him top 6 and dont sign Perry. Otherwise just dont trade for JP.

My fear is that with Connolly gone, the Caps end up with an offensive black hole for a bottom six. It doesn't have to be either of these two players, but I would prefer someone who can play on the third line and put up some offense. Connolly was a defensive liability as well, but it worked out okay for the Caps. But I'm sure we'll find out next week what direction the Caps end up taking.

I agree Chips n Beer. Also, didn't Pirri end up in the minors anyway? I think we could find a more quality 4th liner other than him.

I love Holtby, he's arguably a top 5 goalie, but Samsonov will also be a top 5 goalie (maybe better) and be a hell of a lot cheaper and great for a long time.</div></div>
holtby will sign a 7 millionx5year deal......imo open market price doesnt apply to the caps

I think Vrana is overpaid here, especially for only two years. I also think Djoos is going to get in the 2 x $1mil range. Priskie has also said he's not signing with the Caps. I do think they sign a cheap free agent, but I would prefer to go after Pirri and not Acciari.

IMO a fair trade could be PIT 21st tonight and Johnson for STL 2020 2nd. While 4 years of $13,000,000 is a lot it is not worth a first (even a later first) to take on the contract. I would not mind having 3 first round picks this year.
Who knows maybe Jack hurts his back in the preseason and has to go on LTIR!

Fair. Montreal has a lot of wingers that could probably be of value to the Penguins, but the salaries in that trade aligned very close.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Frankyhabs</b></div><div>not THE WORST trade I saw today for Letang, still overpaid by the habs IMO

Fair. The pick could definitely be negotiated. Penguins would obviously love a first over a third.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>cap2018champs</b></div><div>I think the value is fair for everything. Don't think Anaheim is interested in Trading any future picks though. Also, so many Pens fans want to trade Rust. I think he is so underrated and under utilized by Sullivan.</div></div>
Rust is pretty much a victim of us having Kessel and Hornqvist (one of them playing on the 3rd line at all times), so if Rust isn't playing with Crosby then he's on his off hand and not as effective. He is pretty much a good utility winger who fits our team well, but is a cap victim.

Orlov could get you a pretty massive return but then you trade your best lhd and would need an immediate nhl ready replacement. Eller is cheap for a 3rd line center imo

People need to get off the Orlov idea. Who the hell would replace his minutes? Djoos? Siegenthaler? A rookie? Look how disastrous losing Kempny was. Now magnify it be 100x. It would be an utter disaster.
The truth is Orlov is reasonably priced. Hell he's a GOOD price when he's on his game, which I believe he's capable of. I think being paired with Jensen and Gudas will only help his game. Niskanen was a really rough partner last year.
The truth is, there's only one guy I'd be comfortable getting rid of and it's Holtby for a high impact young forward. And he'd have to be really damn good.

Caps Future

I am in agreement with most here that Backie has always deserved a slight raise and goes from $6M to $8M. At the same time Ovi should be fine dipping a bit from $9.5 to $8.8 for the remainder of his career. With where the cap should be by this time I can see that working, especially with a Holtby trade to the west and Samsonov on RFA or Bridge $$
I like it. Only caveat is I don't think Burky will be in DC at this point, so some other prospect for sure.
