(NSH/COL) - Johansen for Galchenyuk
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyManiac95</b></div><div>Literally solves Colorado's 2C problem for free</div></div>
Exactly. And the "fit" on this roster matters much more than it does on different teams. We had a very specific hole to fill and it wasn't just a "2C"...
Anyone thinking that the Avs are not better off because Ryan Johansen "isn't what he used to be" or "isn't very fast" should consider that the Avs are really just trying to replace as much of Gabe Landeskog as they can. The market is weak and the Avs assets are even scarcer. This was great work on the part of the Avs to address a much needed spot in their top 6.

6-3 218lb 30-year old power forward, assistant captain, smart player, win 53% or more on face-offs, 11.8% shooting percentage, scores .66 points per game, controls possession, over 1 hit per game average. $4 million AAV cap hit.
Lando
6-1 215lb 30-year old power forward, captain, smart player, wins 53% or more on face-offs, 12.2% shooting percentage, scores .77 points per game, controls possession, nearly 2 hits per game average. $7 million AAV cap hit.
Replacing Compher as a RH face-off was important because we have Rantanen and Newhook as lefties.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dad</b></div><div>True if they can't sign Towes they definitely don't move him. And he did great against Seattle, but against other teams, especially in the Central, he gets worked, its defensive lapse after lapse. And he can't get PP1 minutes. If they could get more for him that'd be awesome, I'd love to be proven wrong.</div></div>
I would disagree with some of that, he was the guy that had the revolving door partners because of the injuries, I also think he plays defense like the next generation does with positioning and stick work. He has been a plus 52 CF even strength guy the last 4 years. More positive happens then negative when he is on the ice and he isn’t getting bailed out with OZ starts. I get it he isn’t everybody’s cup of tea but when Hronek gets a 1st and 2nd in trade don’t think the Avs are just going to move him. Good conversation!

1 too many pieces for Schmaltz, but if the yotes were moving him that is a good target for the avs. Remove Foudy and its tempting
In a vacuum the trade seems ok but cap wise it force the avs to trade girard, unless they know the return of Girard in a move to make room for Schmaltz, its tough to say if this is worht it or not

Byram needs to stay fit first to even be in consideration for being 'The Man'.

The new GM handled most of the cap stuff for Sakic as his assistant.
This isn't too bad, 10% raise from his previous contract. Perhaps would have been better with less term, but only time will tell.

Cool. The Cogliano, Helm, O'Connor line was really good in the playoffs, and they get to stay together one more year. It's next year when the cap gets messy, so I don't mind the little extra over what he probably should get.

<a href="/users/UpsideDownQue" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@UpsideDownQue</a> Agreed that the price for Lehkonen was steep, but have to think that losing out on Giroux played into that. I imagine it was a bidding war between the Avs and the Rangers, with the Rangers turning to Copp after losing out on Lehkonen. And on the bright side, they still have the '23 1st. This is my attempt at talking my way into being okay with losing Barron haha

Toronto-Avalanche trade speculation from 32 thoughts podcast
It's the only thing that makes sense that the Maple Leafs and Avalanche would be talking about in a trade. MURRAY has been playing very well lately and Avs just got Manson and Byram looking promising for return.
Free up money for Toronto and it would work from Avalanche and give extra 3rd line scoring power for next 2 years.

depends on how much of a believer of newhook you are. If you think he is as advertised, the top 6 will be better. Hes a more dynamic style of player than Saad.
If you dont believe hes going to be a stud, then yes it would just be ok

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Anus_McLeod</b></div><div>You are not. I'm an Avs fan and think they are one piece away for the forward group. Saad leaving hurts. And while I do believe Newhook will be good, Compher in the top 9 isn't ideal.
Don't get me wrong, Compher is an okay player. He's overpaid but isn't bad. The lineup looks a lot better if you input a Saad, Donskoi, or Tatar in his place though. It's my biggest worry about the roster as it stands.</div></div>
There's definitely a hole at 2LW.
Compher would ideally be 4RW rather than 3RW.
Sakic knows about the 2LW hole though so I'm sure he'll aim to rectify that by the deadline.

What metrics are you using for comparison? Kessel has scored 20+ goals 12 times, Compher has scored 20+ (checks notes) 0 times. Kessel is a sniper, especially on the PP, Compher generates almost nada. And while Compher has slightly better defensive metrics, it's important to remember that he is asked to play a defensive role and doesn't do it that well. Kessel wouldn't be asked to do that and you wouldn't be getting him for his defense anyhow. Kessel is what he is but saying he hasn't played well in 5 years is flat out wrong.

Thread:
Kadri Out Eichel In
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dad</b></div><div>If you bring Eichel in you'd most likely need to move Kadri out, I watched him struggle as 3C on Toronto and I think it'd really hurt the Avs if he was given that role. I think Compher would be a great fit in Buffalo, they drafted him and may even lose Reinhart along with Eichel.
I'm certain Eichel will be gone before October. The last time I can think of a similar situation was Seguin in 2013 with the Bruins. I like the deal you offered, it's really similar to what Seguin went for. Might need to add Compher and another pick if other teams are going all in for Eichel.</div></div>
You are know starting to think more strategically and a smart move by a GM would be to move in now and strike a deal for Eichel. GM Adams is willing to wait until the season starts and then look at October or November. I do not think that Adams is risking anything to wait as I think the attractiveness of Eichel will only increase the closer he is to returning and producing on the ice.
Therefore a cunning GM should not have to give Adams his Kings Ransom for Eichel but the GM that sees it as an opportunity now and offers say 3 Equivalent First Rounders and included in that is the top prospect in the organization a deal can be struck.
If Adams waits he allows Eichel to reestablish a higher value than current mark is willing to pay. The fact that the Sabres will have paid a portion of his current salary once the season has started also increases the expected return.
A cunning GM for this example Vegas:
1. Glass or Krebs
2. 2021 First Round Pick
3. Alex Tuch
or
1. Glass or Krebs
2. The first Round pick in 2021
3. The New Jersey 2nd Round Pick in 2021
4. Fleury
5. Paul Cotter
The Sabres send:
1. Eichel
2. Retain 25% of his salary
3. 2021 3rd Round Pick of Montreal
Since you are looking for the Av's:
1. Eichel
2. 25% salary retained
3. Montreal 3rd Rd pick in 2021
for
1. Colorado's 1st Round Pick 2021
2. New Jersey 2nd Round Pick 2021
3. Colorado's 1st Round Pick 2022
4. Kadri
5. Foudy
6. Barron
The point I am trying to make is GM's that wait end up allowing Eichel to take the risk out of the deal which they can currently leverage. GM Adams hand only gets stronger as the season wears on.
