Dude Petry if you don't count this season cause it's was bad for almost all Habs player was in top 5/10 more offensive defensemen in the league for few year maybe 5 or 6.</div></div>
Gurianov has run his course in Dallas, who knows maybe he gets traded for less if the cap really boils down to needing his 2.9mil. I wouldn’t give anything for Petry let alone top prospects of first round picks like the rumors are stating but Gurianov at least removes 2.9 off the cap and makes Petry’s hit less heavy. Petry is 34 and the team already has an old AF roster, he’s only going to get older with 4 mores years that’s a big risk at over 6mil cap hit and there’s no way to get rid of him once he’s here short of buyout, already looking like Suter will fall off a cliff soon. Habs would still getting the better deal as Gurianov will likely improve and is controllable and doesn’t have a NMC. Petry is going to join the Benn, Seguin, Suter, retirement program and refuse a trade.
Doesn’t matter Stars had to sign Benn and Seguin when they did and are paying the price, they’re going to continue to be trash for the next few anyway might as well give away assets for guys that don’t matter I guess. I don’t think they should sign Klingberg either, too much unmoveable cap.

Finally a non-Petry trade with Dallas. The Stars are too old as it is Barrie is only 30 and the cap hit us only around for a couple years, he’s soft defensively and a liability but can produce. Works in the short term the Stars aren’t going to win anyway just need to fill out the roster for a few throwaway seasons. Barries 2yrs left deal isn’t as handcuffing as Klingberge next deal will be.

Maybe, I think I could make the same case for Miroshichenko not being around at 50, there are some scouts that really like him. I think Salomonsson could get over looked if he can. Yeah Luneau and Lamereaux probably go early 2nd just due to their size but you never know but I think it would be worth trading up for one of those guys in the early 2nd if they have good scouting on them.

No Luneau or Salomonsson in the second or third? 1st round if all options fairly comparable pick Nelson or maybe Casey, Chessly (if that’s the tier they’re down to at 18).

three-way to pave the way for an absolute superteam
Nah, Bishop can stay on our LTIR, Holtby is UFA his rights are worth almost nothing. If Dallas is taking in Tavares and losing Hintz may as well ship out Pavelski, maybe keep a couple of Robertson, Heiskanen and Oettinger (who would all be grizzled veterans by the time the team cap is useable again)and go full tank mode for Bedard/Michkov and rebuild instead of you know just retooling on the fly and avoiding more albatross contracts and waiting out the end of Benn, Faksa, Lindell and Suter’s deals.
Leafs are going to have to play out those tough deals or give up their own picks to dump them.

Why would Dallas trade a 1st and a 2nd for Drouin (Faksa 2.0) and an highly likely LTIR guy. If you want teams to take your cap dumps you have to pay not the other way around. Would you give up assets for Radek Faksa or Ryan Suter, probably not but at least those two can stay in a lineup.

One that’s not good value for Boston. Two why does Boston need a bottom 6 centre? Three Dallas doesn’t need more guys that need extensions (already need extensions for Robertson, Oettinger, Gurianov (since he ranked his trade value and the only option is to extend him and see if a new coach can figure his inconsistency out) mostly need ELCs and guys that have close to league minimum deals to get through the next three years.

Why would they take another albatross contract with Benn and Seguin already handicapping the cap? Why does Calgary get a third round pick and a minor leaguer, they should be paying someone (Phoenix) to take that contract. It’s only one year why wouldn’t Calgary just wait one season or leave him on LTIR if he’s really injured?

No for me as a Stars fan. Stars need to fill out with ELCs, wood is just another Gurianov, will score some but eat a good bit of cap space even if just signing a qualifying offer. Rather just keep any more logjamming away so they have to play younger players.

2nd overall
Have enough low end defense in Dallas with Suter and Hakanpaa need a younger RHD on a cheap contract like Nils Lundkvist or one of L.A.’s 3 (after Clarke they still have: Faber, Durzi, Spence), don’t need anymore problems like Petry. Evans adds no value especially at 1.7mil, we can just call up a guy that should have had more NHL chances here like (Damiani or Dellandrea) on an ELC and they’re likely to score more than Evans.
Khudobin has 1 year I’d just sit and wait that out and bury 1million of his cap in the minors.
We don’t need to pay to get rid of Faksa just yet, can put him as a fourth liner/scratch or bury in the minors and fill out roster with the prospects we have at least a couple of them should make the cut out of Dellandrea, Damiani, Bourque, Johnston, Stank-oven. Plus that Olofsson guy from Europe just signed a league minimum deal but on a one way so I think they intended for him to play in the NHL.
All that being said I wouldn’t be surprised if our **** team went after Petry....but hopefully Oettinger, Robertson and Hintz needing deals now and next year will prevent them being able to trade for Petry.
Not even gonna try to unpack the NJ trade....

I wouldn’t do that trade as a Dallas fan, 3.25 million is a very minor cap issue if no one offered a better deal for Faksa (where maybe we paid a 3rd to move a still serviceable player that is just overpaid that wouldn’t be a negative to a team) then just keep him a 4th live centre or bury 1.0 million of his cap by sending him to the minors and who knows maybe a **** claims him off of waivers and helps out. Clifton adds nothing of value, they can sign another UFA righty that is a late bloomer AHL guy or career bottom lineup guy(like Taylor Fedun was here) or a declined veteran (like Pysyk and Sekera were), but they don’t need a bottom pair righty they have Hakanpaa for 2 more years. Hoglander doesn’t even pop up on my radar Dallas has plenty of good forward prospects, rookies and younger guys that will already be competing for those type of spots.
What Dallas needs is at least 1 top 4 RHD or a prospect that has that potential and soon. If Dallas is trading two firsts to move up it better be for Nemec or Jiricek this year as they’re possibly NHL ready quality RHD in a year or two.

I’m guessing Vancouver. I guess OP thinks Dallas and Boston will fall off bad enough to get picks that can be lottery picks that can jump 10 spots, I doubt it would happen the problem with the stars is they’re always just in the middle too good to get top picks, not good enough to have an easy path to and through playoffs.

Gurianov-Severson Starting Point
Maybe, if he could be locked in for a few more years at a similar cap hit that could be a stop gap until they could draft and develop some quality RHD.
For a one year rental? Gurianov is RFA for a bit still and could be licked in long term at a decent price (he’s struggled to play consistently and will probably take the first secure deal he’s offered) if he has a good season in Jersey. So I’d say for my thoughts I’d want a prospect or pick as well as Severson.
Devils fans may feel the same about their side (Gurianov might be a gamble but his game is perfect for Lindy Ruff who’s not going to make a big deal about not backchecking or making soft plays in the d zone as long as he works hard on the forecheck) they might want more for a quality established RHD so I can see both sides.

Yeah the Stars need to move away from being such a veteran heavy team, the contract is good now but he’s 34 and 4 more years. Also it’s not a great price for a 2LW when Robertson is going to get paid already and isn’t going to be demoted. Also Bourque is one if the closer to ready prospects that could potentially (if he pans out) balance out the cap a bit if he can produce something on an ELC.

Fiala 3 way
Don’t want Fiala. Need LW and Defense prospects in the pipeline. We kinda need that first round pick too. Also why trade Radulov he’s UFA, if Phoenix wants him to hit the cap floor just sign him in free agency no one else is likely interested so you don’t need his rights. Khudobin’s deal if buried in the minors is only a 2.3 cap hit not worth giving away assets in a retooling year where we can eat cap.
If trade was real Minnesota wins that by a landslide getting a first and a decent prospect for a guy they don’t need, second place Phoenix gets a good prospect who is NHL ready for a team that can be patient with younger players and isn’t trying to win now or doesn’t need him in a middle six role and is fine with him playing bottom six.

Which is which
Yeah that trade looks like something that could happen... Doesn’t mean I like it and wouldn’t rather trade prospects with a team with a surplus RHD prospects. I’d rather they rip the band aid off just fill the roster out with movable contracts for a season or two until we’re closer to the end of Benn’s contract.
LA has Clarke-Durzi-Fabre-Spence even if we got Spence that’s at least potential to fill that second line RHD spot (could also not pan out and be a waste) and NYR are set with Fox-Trouba-Schneider so maybe Lundkvist is available.... but this seems more like the crappy reality that we’re going to get since GM Jim Nill is probably not as concerned about the future as getting his contract extended after next season which probably means push for playoffs now.

Stars fan, yeah this doesn’t look like a need filled for either team. Stars lack quality RHD (who isn’t besides LA) after Klingberg leaves this offseason that makes a third pair guy like Hajanpaa the top of the depth chart....and we don’t need another depth forward which at this point in his career I think we can assume Girgensons is what he is.

Deadline Buyers
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lancebmx</b></div><div>Also one problem I have with the trade and your explanation. You are claiming these young guys aren't getting a chance, but you brought in another forward with out sending a nhl forward out. Maybe s trade based around Gurianov could be a better option for both clubs, although I'm sure Boston would prefer a centre or LD back in return.
I say that cause you have Seguin on the fourth line, like I understand if his play is questionable, but you don't play Seguin on the fourth line.</div></div>
So my thinking is explaining the logjam is mostly my sales pitch on Mascherin that I believe has value, but Boston might want something else I get that. Just an example but I don’t think we trade Bourque, Harley or any other first rounders for Debrusk in that scenario I’d want more from Boston especially if we plan on just moving Debrusk if his cap goes up too high for 22-23.
For moving out and NHL player. I just don’t know who of value we could give Boston that can be moved this is under the assumption we are buyers, sellers at the deadline is a different scenario. If Boston would prefer a center or LD would they be even be interested in: Glendening, Hanley or Sekera? Seguin NMC, Lindell NMC, Suter NMC, Pavelski we keep if we are tryin to make playoffs, Peterson I would think we want to keep as he can play LW or C and he’s been improving I think it’s too early to look at trading him. Moving out the guys in the logjam helps them, helps the other team if they want some young blood I the lineup and reduces the guys getting screwed. Then next year there can be openings where the free agents leave (-Sekera, +Harley, -Radulov +Damiani or Dellandrea and have Gurianov in that 2RW spot.
Seguin is cooked just a 5 more year 9.85 million cap handicap. One if the best case scenarios is that at some point after Bishops contract is over Seguin gets hurt and LTIRetired. Slim chance under a new coaching staff they can adapt his game and get his production backup up but at this point. Hintz has take his job and Benn has been a noticeable presence at least and has played the role of a 2C (albeit very overpriced better than anyone else) where Seguin does very little unless he’s net front on a play. Also if trying to get another scoring line with Peterson and Gurianov Seguin is just a boat anchor holding them back, where Raffl’s pressure and agressive puck battling and Peterson’s possession tendency help Gurianov in theory. He’s the odd man out.

I don’t know getting out of 5 more years of Seguin at 9.85 a year and for some reason Seguin waives his full move clause. Lucic only has 1 year after this season and Backlund 2 so it opens the cap back up sooner. It’s not such a great deal for Calgary long term cap wise and Seguin will likely continue to slow down.

“I will admit that Russians trying to play hard ball with the North American development system is rather puzzling, thank god that Gurianov didn't give the team a headache“
Honks wasn’t Russian either it’s just an entitled prospect problem in general.
Look at all the fans that wanted us to draft Lysell even though he’s already known as a player who demands trades as a 17-18 year old (clearly a red flag) and there’s probably more to it that we don’t know. Where there’s smoke there’s fire and teams wanting to avoid or gamble on those players are going to make the call wether the fans (who probably never watch the prospects play a full regular season game)agree or not. I think they’re a bit gun shy after two high picks flopped here with those type of attitudes.

I don’t know that we can be sure of that, if Gags doesn’t think he should fire Nill and have to bring in a whole new front office and new scouts and everything. Plus we’re assuming he’s not one of those owners with their hands on the wheel too much too, I seem to remember rumors of him being the one to push to bring back Hitchcock.
Gags might have a heavy influence in decision making (they did trade back to acquire an additional second so they could draft one of his Kamloops players and a Defenseman instead if one or the other) and if he can’t find another GM that is willing to work with that (there are those who won’t take a GM job unless they can avoid being micromanaged).

Maybe...If Rangers want a rental and Dallas continues the horse**** lazy play. Not really high on Kravstov. I’d rather a first round pick if there needs to be additional since everyone on here values first round picks so highly (see Foligno trade last year, GMs do not) then Radulov plus a pick 3rd round or somewhere about or established prospect (Mascherin or Caamano or someone) or a second round pick if Rangers first is not draft protected (shouldn’t be a problem if you think this is a playoff team).
Time for Dallas to start a rebuild, look at Detroit they’re still not back but I can already see they are going to be stacked if they’re picks are panning out continuously. Trade ufas as rentals to teams that might miss playoffs but are making a push and get done lottery unprotected picks for the next 2 drafts.
