IMO, zero chances MTL make this deal, they have no need for another top6 winger.

Mete and Danault
If you'd watch Habs games these days you'd realize that the team is pretty much set. The only incentive to flip Danault or Mete is if MTL is out of the playoff race come TDL, which at this point seems very unlikely.

Taking Advantage or Detroit
I love the idea of bringing in AA, but let's look at numbers:
- First, he's not that much better at winning FO than Drouin or Galchenyuk
- Second, his GAR rating places him behind Patches, Gallagher, Byron, Danault, Drouin and Mitchell, at par with Shaw
In the ideal scenario, he would play LW on the 3rd line, but Byron is already slotted there
I'd say pass

Huberdeau?
Overpayment. Gally has a much better GAR rating than Huberdeau. In fact, according to his rating, Huberdeau would play on the 4th un Mtl.

Wrong target: Trocheck is a far superior player to Huberdeau, who is by the way a major downgrade on Pacioretty.

Observations from GAR ratings
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NateElder12</b></div><div>problem is I couldn't see the Flyers moving G unless it's for someone like Galchenyuk or Danault so you want to find the GAR difference rel. If Galchenyuk is traded for G (example), then you'd get around a +5 difference in GAR. Danault would only net you +2. Just food for thought.</div></div>
That's right. Giroux is not worth it if you consider his age and salary. Draisaitl and ROR would require to mortgage the future. On the other hand, Trocheck is 24 and signed for 5 more years at a very cap friendly deal. Does Galchenyuk and a 2nd sound right?

Pacioretty vs Giroux BLOCKBUSTER
It's a terrible trade for Mtl as well. Look at 5vs5 stats, Giroux is good but he's not at pair with Pacioretty. I understand the quest for the prodigal 1C, but trading away Patches in the process weakens the team.

When all is said, I really like the Idea of going after Zetterberg as a 1C option. Much more than the Tatars, RNH or Carter scenarios out there. Given the cap situation in Detroit, the price should be reasonable.

That's what I've read and been told on here many of times</div></div>
That's correct, compensation is based on AAV on a 5 years term

Adding Tatar is nice but I don't see the point of trading away a scoring chances dynamo for a 2nd line C. Danault does a better job at it, and he's much cheaper.

Remove McCarron or Juulsen from the mix if that suits you best, the point being that adding Landeskog improves the team and doesn't summon cap hell.

Good idea to bring in a d-man, but the left flank should get priority - Markov has to be replaced on top pairing next year. STL is not doing that trade.

Over the cap, the roster is short by one player. Why would you bring in Chiasson? He's a career 4th liner and he'd take a roster spot for Ghetto, McCarron or Sherbak. Also, Boedker is a possession anchor; Perron is superior and could be inked for less money.

I must be crazy
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SmartGM</b></div><div><i>Here's my point of view on this trade that might be ridiculous but also smart. Price has two years left on his contact his new contract will sky rocket. Getting a really low pick for Price sounds right. The last Vezina winner who won the cup was Tim Thomas. You don't need an all-star goalie to win the cup. Look at the last couple cups Murray, Crawford, Quick, Crawford, Quick, Niemi not even close Price.</i></div></div>
Agree, trading Price now would get you a nice return - probably more than a 6th oa and a 2nd if Schneider is worth a 9th oa. On the flip side, trading Price for futures would instill a setback and push the cup window further out by 3-4 years, IF the prospects pan out. By that time, Patches and Subban would be 30-31 and slipping out of their prime, so you'd better trade them now too. My take is MB should stick to his core, add the missing pieces and hope for the best.

Agree. Landing an aging overpaid player like Hartnell would put too much pressure on the cap - and clug the cup window. Inking Perron or Okposo would be better bang-for-the-buck deals.

Offseason moves (another suggestion)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgab</b></div><div><i>Nice moves, I think as long as we get Okposo, we win. Either of the 2 young D-men you suggested would be great. I would think Beaulieu has got to be one of those young D-men that we also can't secure.
Would you be of the mind that we should draft a forward instead of a D-man with our 9th overall choice? Given that young d might be easier to pick up?</i></div></div>
I'm thinking that the Habs should protect 4D (incl. Beaulieu) and 4F (Patches, the Gallies and Okposo). In any case, I would definitely draft a F (Jost, Brown, McLeod, Keller, whoever is available). It will soon be easy to nab a good young LD at a discount price.

DD for Hartnell would be an excellent trade but Boedker is a possession anchor - better use the money on Okposo or Perron.

Offseason moves considering the expension draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgab</b></div><div><i>I like the team, hopefully you'd be right about Ekholm. Someone else might offer more. This team looks competitive though, a free agent like Okposo could turn a dismal offseason into an excellent one.</i></div></div>
That's the thing: there would be lots of d-men available, and not much takers. Remember, you'd have to protect no more than 4 forwards to protect 4 d-men. Teams with deep rosters would not risk loosing a good prospect or top line player for added D depth. That would leave, I think, 4 takers: ARI, CAR, EDM and TOR. On the sellers side, there would be at least 6 teams: ANA, CBJ, NSH, MIN, NJD and NYI. If Ekholm is not available, then Spurgeon, Scandella, Savard, J.Johnson or DeHaan would. Interrestingly enough, just like that, the Habs sub-par top-6 would be an advantage.

Your over the cap, and 1 player short of 23. Signing Okposo seems to be a stretch unless some contracts are unloaded first.

The Hawks would be very happy with this Bickell trade, so they will overpay. But I don´t unterstand the Wideman deal. What is your intention for the 2017/18 season? Resign Wideman or free a lot of cap space? And I´am not sure that the 4th over all pick is worth all these trades.</i></div></div>
Right-o for the Yakupov scenario. I'm gambling that MTL with the Therrien's stern tutelage, Pacioretty's leadership and Galchenyuk's friendship will help put him on the right track. Even if it doesn't work out, have we really lost all that much? If he just becomes a 20G scorer we've already won and that is not a far fetched idea for a guy like Yak. If Kessel can pretty much turn it around, I don't see why Yakuov, who is younger and cheaper can't.
If the Hawks are willing, realistically, Montreal better be all over that.
Regarding Wideman, no chance at resigning him unless its very cap friendly. The idea behind this was to find a way to move up in the draft without giving up much in term of valuable assets. CGY dumps 5.25M in cap space, they get 2 young cheap prospects while moving down only 3 spots and MTL moves up to get the player they probably want the most in Dubois (outside the top 3). They also get a serviceable dman to help limit Markov's minutes. He's only got 1 year left so we're not mortgaging future cap space really. Next year, we spend our extra cap space to target true LH top 4 dmen to play with Subban and Petry (if Markov retires).</i></div></div>
Yakupov hasn't proved he can score like Kessel (why did TOR fans wanted him out anyway?), he's a possession anchor and he's kinda got an attitude problem; not so sure anyone can do something about it. IMO, the Habs would be better served by adding a possession-driving player that can play a solid all-around game.
