Columbus rebuild
Why does everyone forget <a href="https://thehockeywriters.com/revisiting-blue-jackets-second-carter-trade/" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">Jeff Carter sucks?</a>
Hard pass Kings trade.
Hard pass Kessel.
Not giving Tatar four years.
Not trading for/signing another G unless we do something with Elvis or Tarry. Not to mention, MIN would match that in a heartbeat.
Why is Marchenko a scratch?
Boone isn't getting moved.
Choices.

Lets Try A Lindholm Trade
Getting Lindholm to help ease Fantilli into the league would be huge for Columbus. It would be similar to when Buffalo had ROR in front of Eichel, except there wouldn't be a bunch of bad blood and the team would be a lot deeper around them than just Reinhart.
Personally I would rather take a different prospect than Boqvist from the Flames perspective. I would want to gamble on someone like Dumais.

Lets Try A Lindholm Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ArakinSkywalker</b></div><div>Personally i don't see why columbus is always trading away sillinger, he will most likely become a good 2C with fantilli being your 1C. In two years both your center core is solved and you could use your picks to draft or help you in areas for when your window actually opens.</div></div>
Even if he's not a 2C he should end up as a very good 3C. I'm interested in how he'll do next year without a training camp concussion and with competent linemates for more than 10 games.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>goodjobbjs</b></div><div>I see where you're coming from. If you make this trade you don't have to worry about acquiring a top 6 center for the next 8 years. Until the Jackets find one playoff success feels unlikely to me. If Jarmo can make it happen and make the cap work I think he will try. If he can't make the cap work I agree it shouldn't happen. I feel like they're more inclined to make a move like this because Gaudreau is only getting older. Sillinger probably won't be a 50-60 pt guy for another few years. With all the young wings I think it might be good to have a vet in the middle to balance it out</div></div>
I agree with needing another top 6C. I just think Lindholm is too expensive in the cost to acquire and the cost to extend him for the age that he is. If we were talking about a center that was going to be starting his new contract at 27 or 28 I'd be a lot more comfortable with the idea, but he's gonna be 30 a couple months into his next contract. Also, as nice as it would be to have two thirds of the Gaudreau-Lindholm-Tkachuk line, I don't like the idea of paying ~$18M for them while missing the guy who was the real heart of the line.

Fantilliplan - Roslovic Kept
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>goodjobbjs</b></div><div>I think the logic is sound but I don't think they're going to give a guy (Compher) that kind of contract unless he's an absolute lock in the top 6. Just can't be paying a 3rd line guy 5.7 mil when you already have Gudbrandson getting 4 mil. I have a feeling they could get a "free center" similar to the Johansen deal or maybe they bring in a guy like Josh Bailey at a lower cap hit. With Marchenko and Johnson getting likely top 6 money in the not-so-distant future that extra cap cushion is really important</div></div>
I agree, this is just the Evolving Hockey projection. Compher is right handed, and Roslovic is our only other righty center, and plays defense. This makes him a good insulator. I would defintiely prefer to not pay that much for a 30-40 point center, but the market is what it is.
KJ is probably going to get bridged to the other side of Laine/Jenner contracts, so I don't know when he's actually going to get Top 6 money. Marchenko certainly could be sooner rather than later.<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rougelegionnaire</b></div><div>I would keep Peeke and trade Bean and Boqvist away, I do think that Compher would be a great veteran addition but i dont think Jack should be #2 center put Johnson there.</div></div>
Jack is just at 2C so that we can pump up his value before a trade.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>goodjobbjs</b></div><div>I would much rather pay him less. I didn't really research comparable deals and numbers. I kinda just took 5 seconds and guessed. That would be way better. I like the Hayes term. 3 or less is definitely better. I feel like this is a better route than moving assets for somebody else. That way they can really go all in on some defenders</div></div>
Well I wasn't saying we would pay him less, I think we'd have to go above market value to bring him in, but the term is the big sticking point for me with all the young guys that will be needing deals soon. Some of them potentially getting locked up long-term off their ELCs too, like Johnson, Marchenko, Jiricek and whoever the 3OA pick is.
Yeah, that term is what makes me think Hayes or Kuznetsov are the targets this summer. Unless maybe Jarmo can pry away a young guy like Lindholm and sign him to an extension, but that's a dream.

He's saying even with Dumais in it the Avs decline. Take Dumais out, as suggested by the person he was responding to, and it's a double no. Not enough quality there and no young cost controlled centre, which would likely be the Avs main target in trading G.

Off-Season Trade
Honestly I wouldn’t make that trade unless it’s a sweetheart offer like Foudy, Boqvist, Voracek (assuming his career is over and he is LTIR space for Colorado) and a 2nd for Girard. Laine is happy in Columbus, Gaudreau is signed Long term, Werenski is 5 more years. I’m just not sure Columbus needs to start pushing all the chips in yet. Maybe Bean can step into the 2nd pair and Berni or Christianson can step up, also who knows how long Mateychuck will take, he could be NHL ready in 2 years.
Imo I wouldn’t make a trade, but I’d go after a player like Gostisbehere or Graves as a UFA and keep the extra assets.

From everything we have heard around Columbus, he is likely out for the remainder of the regular season, but not for the playoffs. Nyquist has even come out and said that he still intends to play hockey this season, so he sounds like he will be pushing himself for his return.

I don't hate it, but NSH doesn't have the cap space anymore to add his entire cap hit. Some retention would be required-- however, I don't see NSH paying for retention. I really don't see NSH paying a lot for Nyquist either as there are still some cheaper options in FA if they want to go that route.

Improving with some hypotheticals
I agree we need to get better defensively, but at the same time I wouldn’t want to rust too much of the future to do it. Roslovic isn’t going anywhere unless he wants to, I think the odd man out is Nyquist, he could also get a decent return as a rental (50% retained), I also see Bemstrom being traded.
Trade idea to Arizona for Chychrun - Foudy, Bemstrom, Bean and 2022 1st (CHI). I wouldn’t trade for Provorov or Sergachev. Of those 3 I’d rank them Chychrun, Provorov then Sergachev, though I wouldn’t hate a Petry for Bemstrom type trade. Petry is older but could be good to have our most experienced defenseman over 25.

Thread:
Improving with some hypotheticals
- If I had to guess, at least one of Foudy/ Bemstrom will not be with the team next year. They are both waivers-exempt and would likely be claimed - Foudy most definitely. I like Robinson and Danforth, who honestly started to gain some momentum as the season went on. With both of them having new extension kicking in next year, I doubt they are moved, unless part of a bigger trade.
- Agreed that Chinny and/or Chenko should be in the AHL next year, if only to start. Chinny should have spent more time there this season, to be frank. I'd even think KJ could benefit from some seasoning in Cleveland.
- Gus should be traded. With retention, I truly believe someone would give up a 1st for him. Or at least a good prospect.
- Laine will not get that much. Aaron Portzline suggested a month or two ago that he and CBJ were already negotiating a deal in the range of $8.5M x 5-6. Mind you, that was *during* his hot streak.
- That feels kind of low for Rosy, who I feel has only begun to scratch his potential. He was very sheltered in WPG, had a (perhaps unsustainable) breakout last year, and I feel likely (hopefully) settled into a constitent role as this year went on. If I had to guess, he and CBJ agree to a one year deal (he'd still be an RFA), and see where he goes from here.
- Tex is difficult. Portzline reported Tex is not only planning on being ready for next season, but he very much wants to be in Columbus; but, the logjam is real, and apparently teams were calling GMJK with some good offers...
- Haven't seen or thought of Copp's fit with CBJ. He doesn't seem like he'd be a bad pick-up...I'd just be worried giving a 6x6 to a guy who really has only recently proven he's worth that kind of money.
A lot of interesting thoughts here. Not to mention whatever players come out of the '22 draft. Though, I keep getting the feeling that if CBJ end up with two 1sts this year, they will use one of them to swing something.

Sign Zajac to Mentor then Flip at TDL
Zajac is rumored to have signed a one year league minimum deal with the Islanders, so I’d say he’s probably off the market.
Lucky for Columbus, however, I think there are much better players than Zajac they could do this with. Tyler Bozak, James Neal or Derick Brassard are a few names that come to mind, all of whom would be better additions than Zajac imo

If the jackets are moving those 2 at half retained for a second , which is fair value for those 2. I’m taking more than another second for the Johnson contract. He’s good but he’s old and getting worse. He’s signed for 3 more years at over 5 million. I’ve suggested taking on cal Foote or Eric cernak in stead of a first. However a first could also be acceptable.

His options may be limited. Not a lot of money to go around. He could go somewhere on the cheap but most places he would get 3rd line min. In Columbus due to the lack of center help and Domi being out for the first two months at least, he would get more minutes and bigger role

Hard no from Boston. DeBrusk is one of the near untouchables, I think. Certainly not for a rental, like not Stone, let alone Panarin. Boston would go after Stone by preference by a long shot anyway, and have a couple rhd prospects that would interest Ottawa.
