RD Blind spot
I'd love to have a guy like Demers play in a mentor role and get flipped at the deadline for a 4th but with 9D already I don't see them signing anyone else. I also think it could send the wrong message to a guy like Peeke. He needs ice time.

I didn't even realize there was a limit of 3 retention spots. Who else would they trade that requires retention though? I only see Domi. Wouldn't Robinson's retention spot come off the books next season because his contract is expiring?

I was also thinking Tampa would reasonably throw in a 1st. I'm not sure if they would want Carlsson though. He's not really NHL proven, he's got a low contract but is he the 6D you want going to the Stanley Cup Final? Not sure. Would you do the same trade with 1 1st in 2022 instead of the 2nd round picks?

Wennberg makes way too much sense on this roster. I'd love to see him play with Laine. Idk if he would ever come back to Columbus though.

Well the Jackets get worse. They're swapping 3rds AND giving up a 7th to get rid of Elvis. If they are trading Elvis to a contender start with a 2nd coming back to Columbus and go from there. Jackets aren't giving Elvis away for free. Unless Der-Arguchintsev, Semyon is some amazing prospect I don't get this at all.

The return for Gavrikov is reasonable in a normal circumstance but they have 3 young promising Russian players who should be making the move to Columbus within the next couple years. They need him in a mentorship role to help them get used to a new country, city and league. I don't think Gavrikov will be moved

People were overly critical. The Jackets have draft well in the late rounds and players drafted 3-5 years ago are pushing for spots now. Almost too many. We've seen Sherwood, Stenlund, Macinnis, Lilja, Bemstrom, Robinson, Peeke, Carlsson all play games this year and none have played a full NHL season. All credit to Torts and Jarmo.

See in this situation they get a 2nd and 4th back for their 3rd. I think it's reasonable. Adding picks and adding talent.

Savard has been a steady top 4 defender his whole tenure with the Jackets and has a very fair contract. Great in the locker room. He's worth more than that for one. Two they wouldn't trade him leaving a Kukan-Harrington D pair. Savard is a great player. One of the most underrated in the league.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TanSor</b></div><div>That's been the MO of the Wild for 6 years, good but not good enough. Without Koivu and possibly without Dumba, I don't see any way we make it past the first round. Even with those two we flopped against the Jets last year (although we were without Suter). I think we need to tear it down, add picks and prospects, and build for when Kaprizov can come over. I sure hope we don't add at the deadline or do nothing, we need to sell Staal at the very least. Granlund has also been in trade talks and he could bring back a nice return.
I agree, we are in a very odd situation.</div></div>
They had some insane teams though. Just couldn't beat Chicago back in the day. I picked them to win the cup a couple times but Chicago always was the thorn in their side.

Panarin is better than both. Unless they had an extension in place for one of them/got them at a discount I don't know why that move is even worth it but I guess we'll see

Exactly, I don't see Minnesota making it out of the first round but who knows.. maybe Dubnyk will go off. The main core is super old, the young core that was highly touted for so many years is in their mid 20s. No incredibly talented young players right now. The roster reminds me of Detroit when they made the playoffs the last few years, good enough to make the playoffs not good enough to contend. I don't really see them bringing in anything more than some depth guys out of respect for the players, maybe a cheap Koivu replacement. Not doing anything at the deadline when your team is playoff bound just shows management has no faith in the team which isn't great for morale. It's a weird position to be in

I honestly don't think this trade improves Minnesota as a team. Too much off the roster.

Duclair with McDavid would be insanity though. He's one of the few players in the league that can match his speed. He's always a step ahead of everyone else on Columbus and it causes him problems.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mk458</b></div><div>Definitely tempting from Edmonton's perspective. But the gap between Nuge and Wennberg is pretty huge. Nuge has 52 points (mostly playing on his own line with crap wingers), and Wennberg has 23 points. Nuge is also far better defensively. But we desperately need picks and wingers who can score. Add on Sonny Milano and Edmonton might bite.</div></div>
Here's my thing with Wennberg. He needs to play with people who are going to bury the puck. He's never really gonna have more than 15 goals but if he's on a line with Atkinson or in a good pp unit he's a passing freak. His value will go back up when he's put back into a bigger role. Wennberg has been a rock defensively, he's just not the best in the faceoff circle. Milano and any of the other prospects are definitely interchangeable.

Getting Wennberg
I think the Blue Jackets take that 9 times out of 10 but his ceiling is so high. He's a Backstrom copy he's just not there yet. I think he'd thrive with the caps. So many talented scorers on the wing. I just don't see it happening before the deadline. Caps don't want to lose all that depth.
