Best Under Cap
If you're gonna raise the cap then you may as well raise it to $150M. Imagine the best under the cap team you could create then

Wishful Thinking
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>graderman</b></div><div>With an eye on the future, I really wouldn't expect the Hawks to sign either Gustafsson or Brassard. They are just pending free agent bodies in this case. Leddy had been on the top pair with the Isles im the past and certainly still has a flair for the dramatic -- one man rush ability! He would be an offensive update to Keith at this juncture, imo. Why not take this chance? They have nothing to lose.</div></div>
Yeah, I mean i'd probably do it for Leddy plus a 1st maybe. I wouldn't trade for a veteran rental with no plans to resign him unless we were taking the cap hit in exchange for us getting some assets back. And Leddys cap hit for his stats isnt too attractive, so the excess value from Saad + Gus = their late first if they are seriously contending for a cup this year. Idk, I just don't see the Isles as a good fit for Saad in general, but Gus probably fits what theyre looking for right now.

I dont see how any blackhawks fan would want to do this. The blackhawks arent going to trade Saad unless the value blows them away, which this does not. Just because Leddy is effectively the 1LHD because of injury doesn't mean thats what his value is. Also, Gus > Brassard and Brassard isnt someone the blackhawks should think about re-signing. All in all, if either of these two get traded, its because Bowman realizes that the Hawks arent competing this year and its going to be for picks and young players/prospects

I don't know if I would do this as an Isles fan, although I think the value favors them.
We lost Pelech for the season, so right now Leddy is our 1LD. Gustafsson is not going to replace him in that way. Brassard is definitely not as good as Saad, but he can play center and we have no depth at center in the organization.
I would do Leddy for Saad straight up in the off-season.

I was hoping for a $3-4M aav deal that summer for the Manchild which was a going rate for his type of player. How things may have been different for a couple of more yrars, hey?!</div></div>
Yeah for sure, but at the same time, agents are not only looking at the current market rate but future rates to negotiate a deal and we all know how bad bowman is at negotiating. Today's Saad's value is about $5M which is why I think the hawks should retain $1M to maxmize his trade value if they decide to trade him this year.

ChiHawk. You are absolutely correct on the player assessment. The other guy, wrong as usual on everything. Saad would be the perfect winger for Crosby alongside Guentzel. Saad is a 5v5 beast and plays a Crosby style of game. He may only be a 20 goal scorer but the "homers" in Pgh seem to forget that the beloved Dupuis and Kunitz were also only 20 goal scorers with a couple rare 20+ goal seasons. and that was from benefiting from playing w 87. I would bet to see Saad getting close to the 30 goal range playing with 87 n 59. He is for sure affordable if they can move Bjugstad and/or let Galchenyuk walk this summer and if they choose to also let Shultz test free agency. I would resign Shultz if he would take a lesser financial deal as he's missed so many games due to injury. Then again, with the emergence of Marino, Shultz might not be needed and they could find a bargain for the 3rd pairing RD spot.

They got way to many guys on the team that are already better players. You put him on the LW, but lets be honest.
Is he a better LW than Jake. Nope. Is he a better LW than McCann.....nope.
So do you really think they are going to give up 6 million for a guy who is the 3rd best LW on the team.
No they aren't.
Now if Chicago swallows 50% of the contract we can have a more reasonable discussion about it. But what isn't going to happen, is the penguins aren't going to give up a ton for a 20 goal winger considering they are kind of common and the asking price for them on the open market is roughly 3.5-4 million a year.</div></div>

I think Winterpeg may be more interested in Keith (with perhaps up to half retained by the hawks). I highly doubt Vegas, or any other team, gives up a 1st for Gus, TBH. I agree as things currently stand, Toews (and Kaner) may opt to leave this sh:t show. I do not see Chicago going anywhere anytime soon unless Rocky sells the team. Therefore, they may as well start a real rebuild by gutting the entire group.</div></div>
I mention Gus to VGK as I’ve seen multiple articles state how he would fit well with Schmidt and Gus provides a unique skill set as a PP QB and offensive Dman. VGK offense is potent and he could produce well there. I only mention a first because it’s wishful thinking but he has that unique skill set so Bowman might be able to get a willing GM. I’ve seen a lot of others suggest straight up 1st or a combo of lower picks such and 2nd and 3rd.

I'm not opposed to the trade. It's possible there may need to be either pick or prospect involved and I'm not sure which way. I just haven't done enough research. <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Capitalfail67</b></div><div>Dude we have one cup and we trade forsberg for erat. Dumped a 1st and Sanford for Shatt. Without seabrook you might have 1 cup instead of 3. Yeah it sucks he has this deal but remember that he was a huge part of you winning. Honestly toews is grossly overpaid. Dude is worth at most 8 million but people tend to only focus on seabrook. Kane is worth every dollar. Either way it’s frustrating but understand it’s a process and not everything happens over night. At least bayou have something to show for it. Look at ranger fans or and Canadian team. Most people would trade 5 years or struggles w 3 cups. Maybe seabrook will get a skin infection who knows</div></div>
The problem isn't about being grateful, it's about being lied to.
If this team would openly announce that they are rebuilding then there would be much less complaining than there is now. Yes, we won three cups, thats great... but the fact of the matter is that management is trying to squeeze something that is not there out of the current group.
All of the moves they made this offseason have been present-centered this year type moves. THIS IS NOT A TEAM THAT CAN WIN THIS YEAR!
We should not have to deal with incompetence just because we had a great decade. Trust me we have enough incompetence in Chicago sports without the Blackhawks adding to that.

<a href="/users/HatterTParty" target="_blank">@HatterTParty</a> You should want the cup. That's the goal. The goal is NOT making the playoffs. We can have different view points and I believe some is this is how you're feeling about the historic meltdown yesterday, but how can you defend that trading for DeHaan was bad?!?! NEITHER Forsberg or Forsling are good. DeHaan was playing the #1LD role when he got hurt. He's exactly what this team needed. I hate that he got hurt. Sometimes injury bugs happen. Kimmo was 100% a Coach Q trade. Leddy was 100% a Coach Q trade. Q didn't play ANY of the young Dmen. Not Leddy, Not TVR, Not Gus. Every years there are teams that trade 1st round picks because they want to win the cup. I'm ok with a GM trading a 1st round pick if they genuinely believe they can win the Cup. That's the goal. Kubalik for a 5th? Good trade. Dach's 18 and it's not like Kaapo or Hughes are tearing it up either.

F this.
It's not Toews' fault he's playing with dry line mates and not Patrick Kane. It's not his fault Bowman traded Teravainen to get rid of the last year of Bickell's 4 year $16 million dollar contract. It's not his fault Bowman never got fair value for Saad and Panarin. Yes, this situation sucks, but trading Toews gets you no where. Honestly, it could be much worse (Thornton and Marleau in San Jose). Do you really think you'll get that return for him? I don't.
The hawks stink, and it requires a new coaching staff and new front office, not trading a hall of famer.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles777</b></div><div>I'll take Turcotte any day over Dach.</div></div>
I think the problem is that Chicago was in a far different spot than Colorado. Colorado had a position where if they got dach, he’d be a perfect, fully sheltered 3C behind mackinnon and kadri. I do think they would have had the sense sent him back to the W, but who knows.
However, in Chicago’s case, desperation drove the decision more than logic. I will say, I truly believe that turcotte has a far higher ceiling than dach. Turcotte could average 80+ points a year and be a energetic two way dynamo once at his peak. However, dach getting 60 a year and being passable as a two way center would be enough for me. Having said that, Chicago panicked and took what was ready now versus what was best for the future. I don’t really understand what Colorado’s interest in dach was in all honesty, since they already have the landeskog-rantanen archetype filled up. However, the second that Chicago took him, everyone knew (or should have known) that it was meant to be a fix now with a lower ceiling versus taking the time to have a truly elite player in turcotte. I hate the choice as a hawks fan, but I do have to live with it, and have to deal with turcotte on the kings and byram on the Avs. Yea, it’s a bad future for Chicago.
