March of the penguins
Love this. This would be so awesome ...
They would probably need to include Olausson there as well.
Playoffs lineup:
Drouin-MacKinnon-Rantanen
Lehkonen-Crosby-Nichushkin
Wood-Colton-LOC
Kovalenko-Landeskog-Cogliano
Toews-Makar
Girard-Manson
Johnson-Malinski
Georgiev-Fleury
Just imagine...

definitely hear your point. Especially, when Schmidt is a great locker room guy.
Who would you like to see that they go after for the 2nd line center role?

Right.. Would probably suck to have a stanley cup champion added to that d
Motte is always good in playoffs, would bring depth and grit.

wsh push
One thing that is ignored here is that where is WSH going?
With that core, they are not going to suck enough to rebuild.
If the priority is Ovie's goal record, he's not going to get it without a proper two-way center and a playmaker. The money and brand value will be insane if he gets the record - WSH is thinking that more than competing for the Lord Stanley.
Couture had a great season last year, this year if he is able to show that he still has it, he could be an asset. Great two-way play and ability to make his lineys better. The reality is that WSH has barely any assets to move. He has three more years left his deal after this - Ovi two, one extra perhaps to reach the record. When Ovi era ends, they can start rebuilding.
They have the cap space to do both of these deals and still sign a top 6 forward in the off season.
Huby would waive his NMC for an opportunity to play with Ovie.
It makes sense to try to build a proper team for 2-3 seasons and then suck, not stay mid the whole time.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pensfan303</b></div><div>You can sign those in free agency haha, The one last push is this season, not next season</div></div>
Have you seen the market? Who do you think could sign with PIT who could fit the top 6?
PIT doesn't have a first rounder in the draft so it is not a biggie to try to develop some guys for the next year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pensfan303</b></div><div>So we get worse in order to go for 1 last push before a rebuild? makes no sense</div></div>
In case you are out of it in the playoffs, you would need NHL ready players + top 6 forward for next year.
Top4 D will be needed next summer as well.
Personally I see it would make no harm to give a chance to Dorofeyev and Podolzkin to improve their game this year with the big guns and hope someone will crack in the lineup next year.
For Guentzel you need a player in return who can help the team next year when the team tries to go for the one last push with off-season signings

replacing Johansen and fulfilling Girards absence
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>Girard is a top 4 guy he was playing the 3rd most minutes amongst dmen before entering the PAP. Jones in the top 4 would not be good, Malinski has been really solid but I wouldn’t be excited about that. Another D particularly a RD that kills penalties (who doesn’t want that though) as part of the 3rd pairings would be a nice luxury but is way down the totem pole of needs, which I would rank in order as being 2C that drives 5v5 play, 4C that is good on face offs and PK’s, a back up goalie, and a middle 6 winger with some scoring pop so LOC and Cogs can be the 4th line wingers primary pk guys.</div></div>
Anyone who you could see as a potential fit for the 2nd line C role? Lets put it this way, who would you love to see (besides Crosby :D ) and who would be a realistic option?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>They need center depth a whole lot more than a 3rd pairing dman and truth be told Malinski, JJ, and Jones have been just fine. People forget the top 4 in COL play over 75% of the game. Take Annunen out of the Novak trade,</div></div>
Would you say COL still would need add an extra D in case of an injury? Or do you think Girard/Malinski/Jones could jump up to top 4. IMO they need a depth d man for playoffs anyway.
Fingers crossed Landeskog could hop in the third line in playoffs, but i def hear your point adding more centre depth. Colton can be moved to play left wing as well in case they find someone

My concern is that Lindholm wouldn't be signed. WPG always have the probelm that players don't want to sign there so a 2nd line centre with term would be ideal. I hear your point though

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>qc14</b></div><div>Wouldn't do McM for Hertl straight up with how he's been playing this year. Philly's PP sucked last year, they would definitely need someone to run it and Krug is not as bad as you are saying

Bruins top 3 of McAvoy, Carlo & Lindholm are locked up long term. What goalie wouldn't want those 3 as half their d-men in front of them?
No need for Hayes, Bergeron is coming back for the 100th season. Lysell slots in 3 RW. Trade Forbort and Rilley ($6 million in cap) or buy them out.</div></div>
Literally any team who needs a goalie could offer sheet as Boston doesn't have the cap space

Hayes....save your cap, keep those young assets. Bruins might have bit the bullet next season unless they strike gold with a very cheap UFA.</div></div>
That could be the other path to take. Do you think they should move Coyle to 2nd line center & sign cheaper UFA center?
What i'm also curious is what are they going to do with Reilly. IMO they should avoid using their future assets if possible.
