Lets toy with Nylander getting his money
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sidstick87</b></div><div>IDK Senior Cheif, These boys want paid as u kno with Nylander hold out.... But hey good luck with hoping they take less bc Marner and Kane is the comparison to go from and Kane at $10.5 when he signed is now $11-$11.5</div></div>
Thats his second deal not his RFA deal how can you not understand this? Also Kane was a step ahead of Marner at these points in their career. Amazing how the Toronto media can manipulate the way people view players. They had basically nothing to talk negative about right now so they are trying to poke at next season with the drama contract ****

Hypothetical Nylander on a bridge deal.
Honestly not a bad idea. I know it would likely be cheaper overall on a long term deal now but a 2 year bridge deal is likely the best chance to keep everyone together. With Marleau off the books, it'll give you more flexibility in payment to Nylander and with Nylander at a lower caphit for next season you'd have a better chance at keeping Gardiner.

Not Sold on Par Lindholm
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>superbrett</b></div><div>I agree some competition might be good but I don't want to scare guys like Par Lindholm from signing with the Leafs in the future. They already lost Miro Aaltonen because he didn't get any playing time iwth the big club. That being said I don't think Vermette is a bad option. <strong> At this stage though you could probably get him for a PTO and not a guaranteed contract.</strong></div></div>
Exactly! PTO adds some competitiveness without the brass basically saying, "we dont trust you". Bringing in a vet on a PTO says, "prove to us that you can do this".

How the heck are they under the cap?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>clark</b></div><div>first Horton will be able to get full 5.3m cap hit relief. with the five % cap escalator the cap. should be 83m minimum or likely 83.7, not 79.5
so with that 21 roster of yours. that's 7m more I believe. two bottom players that's 2m, nylander and Mathews can make more, there is another 2m. might be 3m cap space.</div></div>
Sort of. That's not really how it works. They can use if and when they need it, and they can only go over doing in by signing one player. The Cap will also not likely go up 5%
in 2015-16 it went up just under 2.25%
in 2016-17 it went up just about 2.70%
in 2017-18 it went up just over 5%
It is highly unlikely the cap jumps another 5%, but, we'll see.
Defense is still atrocious.

Cup year
I would wait and see how the defence of and out this year. We have a lot of young talent that’s going to working their way up over the next couple of years. And I don’t buy into the weak defence panic. It’s an average defence and a strong offence. First we need to get pir cap situated and rfas signed then go from there. Possibly win a cup in the mean time. Vegas seems to think so...

Keeping everyone under the cap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>superbrett</b></div><div>I think Kapanen, Marner, Nylander and probably Matthews all sign for more money. Gauthier will be traded or non-tendered. Ennis will either be not good enough to make the team or too good to make $1 mil. Edler isn't very good anymore. I like the Sparks contract.
I don't understand why people want to trade Brown? He loves Toronto. He knows his role and he has 20 goal potential. If there is an injury to any of the other RW he is a very valuable depth piece that can fill in. He's is keeping the Leafs from rushing prospects (Bracco or Timyshov) or having Josh Lievo play on anything but the bottom pair. To me he is a great Leaf and I wouldn't be in a rush to trade him.</div></div>
Only way I see brown gone is to upgrade on D, brown wont fetch a top dman but could be used in a package for a undervalued dman like pysyk or honka. Not too sure how undervalued pysyk is in florida but would be a perfect fit imo. I posted a trade on here (before JT signed) brown + carrick + 2nd rd pick for pysysk and mccann.

2019-20 Defence
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>superbrett</b></div><div>I agree, he might be the guy that is scratched for most of the year. He shouldn't be given a guaranteed spot.</div></div>
I'm more pointing out that if the leafs might want to improve their defence, with assumption that more dollars equals better players, maybe nylander or someone like his type of cap has to be traded for a player on defence.
or this scenario. have a chance to sign ryan ellis then you trade nylander for elc player or picks, to stay within the cap.
