It’s a long shot to happen this year but if he puts together a really good stretch of games while both of the goalies are hurt, it wouldn’t be the craziest thing to see at the end of the season.

I don’t think that’s anywhere close to enough of Marners value. Foote isn’t the type of sure thing prospect that would have to be moved, I see Kuokkanen as a middle 6 winger at best and Johnson’s value is at its absolute lowest (wasnt high to begin with looking at the Anderson trade). One thing I’ve been thinking about is, can Daws play well enough to take over the starters net and make Blackwood expendable? Blackwood has been lights out when he’s on but very inconsistent. It could be interesting to piece together that kind of move to get Hughes or Hischier and elite top line winger. Cap aside his numbers last year speak for themself and I think he would thrive outside of a pressure cooker market like Toronto

Here's a better look at it
Lauzon definitely kicks the left leg of Hughes however I don't think they'll consider it a slewfoot. It's more of Lauzon body slamming Hughes which caused the injury</div></div>
After watching that angle it doesn’t seem like a slew foot. Maybe a bit too aggressive but moreso an unfortunate outcome to a really heavy hit in the corner

It's an unfortunate injury, but coming from someone with allegiance to neither team, that was just a very hard hit with an unfortunate ending. It was not dirty.</div></div>
From what I saw in the replay at the game, it looked like Lauzon kicked the legs out from under Hughes. I might have to watch I it again but it looked like a slew foot up against the boards

The pick would most likely be a 2023 pick and would have some conditions based on games played or something because of how poorly Buffalo has handled the situation causing the surgery to eat into the season

If Holtz was ready, there wouldn’t be anybody taking his spot in the lineup. Let him tear up the AHL for a bit and come up when a spot opens due to an injury or trade.
Edit: NJ should not be retaining on contracts rn. They need that if they are going to unload subban close to the deadline

Mercer looks really good but I think they’ll start him in the AHL so Holtz has a quality center down there. It seems to be that they are looking to have Zacha play as the 3C and hoping that his play stays up from last season.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Smitty426</b></div><div>tgasp-You are right, but if the things noted, mom is a nurse, he have covid bad, would all lead to avoiding that at all costs. I know, stop he's got immunity etc. He does until he doesn't, and each person is different. If his antibodies are weaker or non existent, he runs the risk of getting the delta variant again. At least with being vaxxed it lessens the severity and in most case keeps you out of hospital or off a vent. Ask Alex Stalock
CMcAvoy-It shouldn't be, but it many cases it is. And honestly, if it walks like a duck! MackBlack does follow a lot of people who are anti this whole thing
Lastly the comments about its only 8 games. Remember how Boston fans got on Tukka Rask for opting out of the bubble (when his kid had health issues I believe). That would ever be good especially if this team gets on a tear only to have him not be able to play and Benier does not rise to the challenge.
Lots of what if's and good on Devs for not throwing someone under the bus, but info wont be private much longer.</div></div>
One point that was brought up somewhere was the possible heart condition that has shown up in younger people that have gotten the vaccine after a bout with covid. You’d have to think that had come into play with his decision after how bad he had it last year. I’m sure he has a ton of high profile people in his ears for both sides and isn’t making this a political move like everyone tries to make it seem.
This is his choice to make for his health as well as his career and NJ has the right to react accordingly, but trading him just because of this for pennies on the dollar is not the right move as this post has shown

Trading Blackwood since we cant cut him
This trade idea is such an overreaction. He’s a young player and this vaccination mandate probably won’t be a thing next season. He is young and has every right to make a decision that he believes effects his own health directly.
Then you go into the bigger question, if you trade Blackwood, who starts a majority of games. Bernier signed as a 1B and shouldn’t be playing more than half of a season. Daws is also really raw so that trade sets the team back a couple years or more

AJ Out Mercer In
The chances are slim that both Holtz and Mercer make the team out of camp this year. I would also give Johnsson a chance to perform in the bottom 6 with a full training camp and regular season. My last point is that they should be done with trying Zacha at center. Mercer/Boqvist/McLeod can all fill that 3C spot so Zacha doesn’t need to be there. Have him play on the wing where he is more productive

Tarasenko with a bad shoulder and a 7 mil cap hit for two years does not get you anything close to Bratt and a 2nd. He would have to play a full season and be productive before that is even considered

If NJ wants to give up two high first round picks, then what’s two more with an offer sheet and hoping the center depth lowers the pick value
Even better, then they would have Jack, Luke, Jack’s best friend on the team(Smith), and Quinn’s good friend (pettersson). They’re playing with Monopoly money at that point but the core is probably good enough to just rotate entry level contracts

NJ shouldn’t be looking to do that. Let him play in Vancouver and make a play for him in free agency if you want to unite the brothers. It’s not worth losing a trade to get him

I’ve heard that he has been underwhelming since his first year or two in the league. I don’t anticipate being a lottery team in 22-23 but I’m not going to test fate and trade a first a year in advance.

If Boqvist gets traded or is unable to play canter they need a 3/4C (depends on where McLeod would slot in). I also don’t believe that there are any hard feelings between Kerfoot and NJ, at the point he left he felt there wasn’t any room down the middle for him to play after drafting centers in 3 straight first rounds. I like this string of trades for NJ. Ending up with a center core of Hughes, Hischier, Hayton, and Kerfoot seems pretty nice

He’s an impact player in the bottom 6 with team control. He is able to break games open with his speed/tenacity on the puck and can play a couple of games up the lineup if needed. That type of player doesn’t grow on trees and NJ doesn’t have many like him, especially after losing Bastian in the expansion draft. They have no use trading him for a late 2nd and mediocre prospects

The roster looks surprisingly good. It will be thought to make the playoffs in that central division but now that they have a starting goaltender, this team could grab one of those wildcard spots. The defense is the biggest question mark along with Toews coming back after missing a season

I wouldn’t trade Wood to anywhere in the East for a 3rd. I wouldn’t want to subject any of the young forwards to that. If he were to be traded, similar to the Karlsson deal, there should be a condition that the pick upgrades if he plays in the East any of the next two seasons.
Other than that, I like the Vegas deal but don’t know why they do that and don’t like the St. Louis deal bc there are a lot of questions still surrounding Tarasenko and his health
