You aren't getting any firsts for Keith, even if Neal is going the other way. Neals buyout is minimal, and Keith can choose where he goes which prevents any market value. Keith is also declining himself and is no guarantee to be a NHL roster player for his remaining contract.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bobcaygeon97</b></div><div>Just a couple suggestions if I may.
You have 7.8 million in scratches, you have an additional 4 million on LTIR. There is no way you can play that 4th line with those players on the shelf.
When giving players like Yamamoto or Kharia contract two things to remember.
A) you cannot offer the player less than his current contract or he becomes a UFA - Kharia must be qualified at 10% of his salary.
B) Yamamoto has no arbitration rights so his contract is only a 10% raise or his qualifying offer. There is no contractual need to give him anymore. So around a million dollars.
SO you have about 14 million in wasted dollars.
I'd clean that up and see what else you can come up with. Good job though.</div></div>
Yeah I’m not an expert in everything cap but makes sense.
I don’t see Khaira getting more than a million, so not sure how that’ll go.
I didn’t know that about Yamamoto but it’s good to know.
I did the 4th line like that, and the scratches as there are because personally I want to give the 3 players a chance at becoming NHL regulars, and if they end up down in the AHL to start the season, the scratches are there to fill in.
As for LTIR, I left Klef there as the word around the team is that he’s trending towards retirement, if he doesn’t it would change my signings. If he does, then that’s gone.
But all good info, I do these for fun while my team hits the golf course, nice to actually learn something about the way cap works.

Honestly I don’t know much about him, and I saw it in a few ACGM posts.
If he’s 3/4 as good as you say, it’s probably not a realistic trade. Which is why I said I don’t really see all this happening.
What is realistic is a team picks him up for a 7th, “future considerations”, or off waivers.

Oilers don't pay that price for rights of a player coming off a sub par season after losing a year to injury. Patrick has potential, but not what they'd bother paying for a 3rd line centre.

Yes that happens in expansion draft. AT least 2/3 of the teams are most likely going to lose a decent player. This trade isn't worth it. You could pay a 5th for them to take lagesson over jones, and it'd work for Seattle.

Yes based on expansion draft rules, he's the best available exposed player, but that isn't saying that he's not great. Gaudreau has one year left at 6.75 million. Broberg is a highly rated LD prospect that may end up replacing a LTIR'd Klefbom sooner than later, Yamamoto had a rough season points wise, but was still very good and young. There are better options that probably cost less and have more term.

It might explode, but he has one year left. If he does explode he becomes too expensive, so then its a 1st for a rental.

Zucker is risky with 2 years at 5.5 million. You might get one of the picks if the Oilers can't sign or trade for anyone else they want.

Oilers don't give you a first in a deep draft for a guy with 1 year left on an average (not a great bargain) deal.

He didn’t really fit with the team when he was here. He takes shifts off and got into Sully’s doghouse. He was a healthy scratch a lot of games.
And now Hextall and Burke want a back-up vet goalie. And size and physical players. Kahun fits even less now.</div></div>
As an Oilers fan I don't understand it either. Even if they did want his rights, they would offer sheet him by 100k more than we are offering, and save the two assets. Good chance we don't even QO him so you could sign him as a UFA for free.

Nygard and Haas are both gone to Europe. The Kahun money plus cap space could be spent on a Bjustad and Goodrow

4 years at 5 mill to an almost 32 year old Hoffman, just keep Neal at that point. This bottom 6 is arguably worse than last year. Lavoie is no guarantee.

Yes, but that same point is what you tell a Saad to get him to sign for 6, and then retain picks. Tampa isn’t getting rid of either of those guys and their cap hit for value back. They are trading from a position of weakness with that cap issues.

Although I agree with the logic, I think an unspoken aspect is the actual buyout cost. It isn't AAV split, but remaining contract value (actual cost).

Even with the adjustments, the oilers still probably say no. Gourde has one year left at 5.3, and Killorn two more at 4.45. Killorn might be interesting, but maybe gets one pick back with Tampa trading from a major disadvantage. the 5.3 on Gourde could be jumped up to 6 mill for a better UFA forward

Oilers say no easily. They aren't paying you a 1st and a 4th (their first two picks in the draft) to take 10 million in cap off your books.

You won't sign Yamamoto to a bridge worth only 300k more than Khaira, smith contract is heavy by 750k. Boston would want more than that to take on the Kassian contract and give up Debrusk.
