<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaredOfLondon</b></div><div>Holl does not need to move, especially if it makes the team worse, and a middling 7th defender is something you can literally get off waivers ever other month.
Debrusk has the same amount of points Ritchie does and will be exceptionally expensive next season, hell, last season on the same team Ritchie had more goals than Debrusk had points, why does Debrusk have all this untapped potential suddenly and Ritchie is a slug? Debrusk's value is in the sewer. Just because you think he could improve doesnt mean he has peak value. He's a buy low guy, there is nothing in that package that warrents a 1st or even Hollowell, the value is awful for the leafs</div></div>

You're not entirely wrong about DeBrusk and I will admit, I had a 2nd instead of 1st initially, but bumped it to a 1st as I do see DeBrusk as the better player and Richie's contract has another year at 2.5M. Granted DeBrusks qualifying offer is going to be higher than Richie's contract, but that can be dealt with in the offseason. I think he's just in a bad situation. I like Richie's game, just not his cap hit and the only line he seems to fit on is the 4th line, not exactly an ideal position for a 2.5M player on a cap strapped team. Holl to me is a bottom pairing dman on a contender, if that. His IQ in all zones is subpar. Given the right partner he can be effective, unfortunately, Muzz has fallen off a cliff this year for whatever reason. Full disclosure, I have never been high on Holl, always thought he was being carried by Muzz and wasn't happy he was signed for 2M. Lauzon is a solid 2-way defense man and brings some sandpaper, isn't flashy by any means and is able to skate. His TOI suggests he's playing on the bottom pairing and that's what his contract lines up with. To me this move creates the space for Lilly and Dermott to be regulars in the lineup and saves cap space.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LetsGoPens69</b></div><div>Not even being a Pens “homer” or having my “home team rose colored glasses on”. What people don’t understand about ZAR is:

He was a top scorer, top NCAA free agent signing, Hobey Baker runner up(31 goals and 32 assists in 36 games his senior season).

He completely transformed his game to become a top PK, Selke vote getting, top defensive forward in the NHL. And still contributes offensively enough. But if he signed elsewhere he probably would’ve had an opportunity as a top 6; atleast a mid 6.

But he still contributes offensively enough too. He has 8-9 goals and 130 plus hits playing just 40 or so games each of his 3 seasons. Mainly b/c his body probably can’t/won’t hold up to a full 82 game season. Even though he has good size at 6’1-205 pounds.

But if he did play a full 82, he would easily be a 200 plus Hit player and close to a 20 goal scorer(with no PP time and 3rd-4th line minutes).

Put him on the 2nd PP unit and plant him in the crease and I would imagine his production goes way up too. And still a top PK player and a top defensive forward in NHL. He’s an analytics darling.

In my opinion, It would be just good asset management getting something for him now. Not that he’s not needed, unwanted.

He’ll be 27 years old, coming into his prime and looking for a long term deal next season. I would imagine 3-5 years and something around 2M-2.5M per. And a bigger opportunity. And most likely, he’ll get it elsewhere. I can’t see the Pens matching an offer like that or similar.</div></div>

Honestly, if the Leafs were able to get an NHL quality bottom pairing defence man in another trade, I'd be all over this deal.

Be warned, Holl is a good bottom pairing dman IMO, that needs to have a good partner to cover for his mistakes. His hockey IQ in his own zone is questionable.
