Trade with Florida
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tonyhzs</b></div><div>I'd rather get Freddie Andersen for 1 or 3 years (Husso's contract is 2 years remaining), and overpay a little. By then, Detroit knows what it has in Cossa and can decide accordingly who to keep and who to move on from.
Most teams don't have 1b goaltending...if they do it only lasts a season or 2. Giving up more than 10% of the shots on Vladar while playing in a defensive system doesn't bode well with making a case that he is anything more than an average backup. That gets you a 4th or 5th rounder at best.
Goalies can go on hot streaks...Nedelkovic and Helberg both played well in spurts during their tenure. It doesn't mean that the peak performance is what a team will pay for in a trade. Teams tend to pay for the lowest of lows for goalies.</div></div>
I think you'd be 100% correct in going the Andersen route over Vladar, especially Detroit who has the flexibility to bring in a higher floor goaltender for potentially a little more money. Everyone talks about Vladar as if he took the reigns with the starter role when really he fumbled the opportunity and solidified himself as a 1B option as a ceiling, for now he's a good back up.

Tinkering
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tonyhzs</b></div><div>Probably not at that cost. Picks 15-45 have some really good talent. And that's just the talent we fans know of or think we know of. The fact that there is basically a consensus top 4 and then 15 players spread out across the next 30ish picks means moving up may not matter. I've see Honzek in the teens and the 40s. I've seen Moore and Smith in the mid teens. I've seen Dower Nilson in the 20s.
Essentially, in this draft, a smart GM has several plans. The only way I'd move up is if it is to snatch whoever is Yzerman's top rated forward (I like Moore) and Pelikka. Otherwise, the choice between 11 and 17/18 isn't going to get you a dramatically better player. Most drafts I'd say it is worth it, but at 41-43, there could be some REALLY good gambles, fallers, and gems. A lot of mock drafts have Dower Nilsson and Willander in the early 40s. I'd like to be able to draft that raw talent, which won't be ready until this team is in need of entry level reinforcements.</div></div>
I agree with those two in the second round. I would like to move up if my player is there, if not I wouldn't bother.
I would love to some how get more draft capital this year, bring in the dumps!!!

You didn't witness the one month stretch of great Vladar hockey that has Flames fans convinced that he was the starter?! He will get moved but I think Flames fans are dreaming when they're moving him for anything sufficient. Teams have so much info on goalies and trends in their game, Vladar doesn't have the capacity to play multi game stretches, his high glove side is a black hole and thats just surface level stuff. Teams know his value and the fan base will probably be disappointed in the return.

Love Bert but at 28 years old his new contract won't age too well. He's had back surgery. His style of play isn't conducive to a productive career into his 30s. I miss him though. Guy is all guts. It was nice seeing Bert flourish in the playoffs.
He wants too much term for Yzerman to be comfortable with. That's why they couldn't agree on a contract.

Moving on from Bergeron and Krejci with couple of simple deals
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>justaBoss</b></div><div>D is a D. Just to throw an example, Tampa has two cups and one final loss in last 3 years, and they've had virtually only one actual Top-4 RHD the whole time in Cernak. All other RHDs have been just depth guys, and majority of them 7th Ds or rookies (Rutta, Schenn, Bogosian, Foote, Raddysh).
Personally, I think the handed-ness issue is overblown. There simply is more LHDs in the league than RHDs.</div></div>
D is not just a D. Offensive, defensive, mobile, tough, younger, older.... Defensemen are not built the same. I will agree that handedness isn't the end-all-be-all, but using Tampa as an example is not a complete picture. You mentioned Cernak, but what other D were on the team...Hedman, McDonagh, Serge, Shatty. With an arguable top 5-10 goaltender of all time? Don't forget up front the nice pieces of Stamkos, Kucherov, Point that not everybody has.
Detroit has a roster that doesn't score goals. Kubalik for 2.5M gave the Wings 20 goals. Grizz is more valuable, but it's a negative move from a "team" standpoint. With the swap, Detroit loses goals and still doesn't become a defensive powerhouse, although they would improve on the back end. Wings miss the playoffs next year, and then have to sell Grizz as a rental. Same position as without the swap.

Red Wings would get outbid quite quickly is what I'm trying to insinuate. Not a big need; certainly an upgrade, but the assets can be used to shore up the big holes we have.

Kind of the point a team that needs more scoring isn't going to trade a 20g scorer to add another LHD to their deepest position.

- Walman is set with Seider
- Edvinsson will have his first full season
- Maata re-signed for 2 more years (not a good looking moving him right after)
- Chiarot swapped over to RD (don’t need to sell him, not at that stage and have cap space)
- Albert Johansson will get some games but will probably have yo start on the right side depending on injuries
- William Wallinder will be in Detroit 2024-25
Yes, Grizz would be top 4, but Detroit needs RHD, not to just keep adding more LHD. Meanwhile, Kubalik was Detroit’s third leading scorer and one of three to put up 20 goals.

I agree. It is going to be one of those contracts that will be good for about 4 years (it would come into effect when he is 31) and every year after that is rolling the dice. My guess is that Cheveldayoff offers him a contract like that but Hellebuyck says no. If he says yes, then Cheveldayoff gets the salesman of the year trophy for southern Manitoba.

Hope he grew up and got past his entitlement.</div></div>
Oddly enough Hellebuyck sounded more positive when they missed the playoffs last year than he did yesterday on garbage bag day. I agree that Winnipeg wouldn't get a good return but I doubt Hellebuyck would want to get paid below market so I agree that he would probably say no if 7 was the max (and with the window you stated).

He has a bargain cost controlled contract for multiple years. And we need a top 4 RD to replace Hronek. 30 doesn't scare me off with good defensemen. Murphy is right in his prime.

Meh. We're not far along enough for me to think it's worth it. Better suited for Buffalo; they're out of their rebuild. Red Wings have at best 1-2 years left.

Like the player and the contract retained is a bargain but we don't need it retained so I'm not paying more for it, we have cap for a 2nd pair guy. I'm not paying extra I'll take him at his cap hit and fair value.

My biggest issue is that he's 30 and will probably recess massively before we're able to make a decent run (3 years or so). Doesn't help that he is an expiring and aging UFA who hasn't won a Cup. Players in those situations typically want to go to a current contender before they fall off massively.
