1.
BOS
  1. Vilardi, Gabriel [RFA Rights]
LAK
  1. Ullmark, Linus
Additional Details:
Potential Vezina winner for a young forward able to play C with solid defensive game - potentially the new Bergeron in the making. I think this helps both teams. LA clears their forward logjam and adds a goalie they need, BOS adds a center they desperately need after Bergeron's and Krejci's departure.
2.
DET
  1. Grzelcyk, Matt
Additional Details:
Detroit strengthens their defense, and Boston adds a Czech forward for their Czech line.
3.
BOS
    Future considerations
    ANA
    1. Forbort, Derek
    Additional Details:
In order to create cap space, BOS moves on from Forbort. ANA takes in the D-man for free to both get closer to the cap minimum, as well as bolstering the statistically worst D core in the league by clear margin.

Left Defense is not a position of need for Detroit. As good as Grzelcyk is, Detroit would not be one of the teams in a trade race for him.

Doesn't Boston have huge cap overages next year from performance bonuses?

    Edit: looks like 4.5mil

They have plenty of LHDs yes but I'd argue none of them is as good as Grzelcyk. Could just put one of those they have to RD and deal with it lol

Gabe Vilardi isn't getting traded. He's going to be a 70+ point guy.

According to the CBA contracts with performance bonuses can go over the salary cap by 7,5%. All performance bonuses going over the 7,5% threshold will be carried over to the next year.

According to the site, BOS did not get over that threshold, hence there seems to be no carryover performance bonuses to pay.

So either it's that, or the site simply hasn't updated the overages amount yet.

I mean yeah that's what I'd be projecting too if I'd be offering a likely Vezina winner for him

Bonuses have not been counted yet. But look at each players contract details, it’s all there.

He's probably a good add. Possible to do a three team trade where we get someone we need.

Krejci: “Games played bonus: $1M at 10GP, $500k at 20GP | $500k bonus earned for playoffs qualification”

    Bergeron: “10 GP bonus: $2.5M”

Swayman should qualify for at least three “A” bonuses too

I think grez has more value than kuby. Could be part of a three team trade where we get a better piece with possibly more cap for grez. Probably not easy to do though cause most teams are stacked at LHD.

    - Walman is set with Seider
    - Edvinsson will have his first full season
    - Maata re-signed for 2 more years (not a good looking moving him right after)
    - Chiarot swapped over to RD (don’t need to sell him, not at that stage and have cap space)
    - Albert Johansson will get some games but will probably have yo start on the right side depending on injuries
    - William Wallinder will be in Detroit 2024-25

Yes, Grizz would be top 4, but Detroit needs RHD, not to just keep adding more LHD. Meanwhile, Kubalik was Detroit’s third leading scorer and one of three to put up 20 goals.

Kind of the point a team that needs more scoring isn't going to trade a 20g scorer to add another LHD to their deepest position.

I'm very much aware of the bonuses that need to paid. I'm also aware that the ACGM shows that they have overage payments of $0, which is why I assume that a) the bonuses have been paid and don't affect the cap in 2023-24 or b) the carryover performance bonus overages are yet to be updated.

Should the latter hold true, this ACGM is f*cked from it's very core lol.

D is a D. Just to throw an example, Tampa has two cups and one final loss in last 3 years, and they've had virtually only one actual Top-4 RHD the whole time in Cernak. All other RHDs have been just depth guys, and majority of them 7th Ds or rookies (Rutta, Schenn, Bogosian, Foote, Raddysh).

Personally, I think the handed-ness issue is overblown. There simply is more LHDs in the league than RHDs.

Red Wings would get outbid quite quickly is what I'm trying to insinuate. Not a big need; certainly an upgrade, but the assets can be used to shore up the big holes we have.

I believe I just read something yesterday stating how Lalonde likes to have proper hand D pairings. So ideally we find a right handed top 4 option. Only way we do a deal like this is to flip him to another team to fill a hole elsewhere.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of contract do you think Vilardi will be getting next? Cuz any contract that's more than two years would make him UFA next, and I dunno if LA is cap wise in position to make him a long-term deal with big money at this stage either.

At least in theory, the difference between guaranteed years between Ullmark and Vilardi is just one year. At least until Vilardi is signed that is.
