He doesn’t play defense anymore. Bednar said in preseason that they’re done with that. Now he’s a forward only. He averages 5:05 a night in a highly sheltered 4th line role. If you put him in as a regular bottom pair defenseman, you are probably not trying to win games.

He has one fight this year. He’s so bad that he struggles to get into an NHL lineup enough to even drop the gloves. Dude averages 5:05 a night and has been scratched 32 times this year.

If you vote fair deal to this, you have not seen Kurtis MacDermid play on an NHL rink. He’s a nice guy, but a brutally awful hockey player.

They need that money for center depth, not what would ostensibly be a backup goalie.

That extra year of Allen doesn’t really work well with Colorado’s cap situation.
If a team were willing to buy on Savard, seems like it would be worth consideration. I get that you need an adult in the room to mentor the kids, but I wouldn’t turn my nose up at a trade.
That said, that D corps looks pretty dire so maybe a stopgap is needed.

Makar > MacKinnon in terms of captain material. It’s well documented that one of Landeskog’s best characteristics is being able to get MacK to tone it down when he goes over the top.

He’s been up and down this year but man I hate when people just look at a percentile and ignore all components and other factors that go into that result.
Similar **** happened with Girard last year. WAR models had him as a bad player because he was worse with Jack Johnson than other Avs defensemen were. Reality was: Girard and JJ don’t have chemistry. Now Girard is 80%+ in those same models.
I’m not an anti analytics guy by any means and don’t get me wrong: Byram hasn’t been great for most of the year and it’s frustrating knowing how good he’s been for stretches. But people lose a lot in translation when they take a player card and think it tells the whole story.

Avs Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xspyrit</b></div><div>It also doesn't work for Ottawa. They already have to trade Brannstrom at some point to make a spot for Kleven. And they also have the Chabot vs Chychrun debate
Girard is not the type of player and body the Sens need to add on defense.
Sanderson - Zub
Chabot/Chychrun - ??????
Kleven - ??????/JBD/Guenette
Also, Forsberg is better than Korpisalo, just has run into injury problems a bit... Unfortunately Dorion was a really bad GM and went after the wrong guy, or at least gave him a contract with too much term
If the Sens make that trade, they would then have to trade Girard and find another goalie. If you think you can make a significant enough profit do it but that also doesn't really happen this way in the NHL. Teams trade from a position of strength to fill a position of need or make a simple "hockey trade"</div></div>
Yeah I’m speaking for Colorado specifically. Setting aside individual team needs, the value isn’t there.

Sabres trade probably doesn’t work for Colorado and definitely doesn’t work for Buffalo.
I hate the Girard trade. You’re getting a 2nd and a rental goalie for your 3rd best defenseman. Nope!

Why cant it be Colorado
If the Avs wanted to sign Kadri for $7M until 2029, they would have done it themselves.
Giving up a great young defenseman, one of your only good centers, a 1st, and a prospect for a 33 year old on a bad deal with 5 years left and a 34 year old rental D is foolish and shortsighted at best.

Girard is significantly the best player in this package. Doesn’t make sense.
Also can’t imagine Cogliano being traded. Obviously not much of a player these days, but he’s a huge heart guy in the locker room

Some ideas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Larrylnh</b></div><div>What would you change?</div></div>
COL just doesn’t have a use for Matheson. He wouldn’t get PP time and wouldn’t be used on the top pairing. Basically, he’d be cast in the same role as Byram: a solid player that probably needs more ice time.
The only difference is that Matheson is older, more established, and more expensive. The end result here is that you have one of Girard, Manson, or Matheson on your third pairing. Each of those guys makes $4.5-$5M. That’s too much to commit to long term.
I’m a Barron stan, but he doesn’t fit in Colorado. The Avs tend to use their bottom pair for a PK vet (like Jack or Erik Johnson). Barron is not that.
I don’t know if the value is off necessarily, it just doesn’t address Colorado’s needs: a 2C.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>Once again you know nothing about the crap you spew, Matheson has 21 ESP, last I checked 21 > 19. The fact that Girard (who is supposed to be an offensive D man) doesn't get PP time is a statement about how little he is trusted by his coaches. I know that being from Boston it's hard for you to grasp the concept of numbers and math in general but please try at least before you make a fool out of yourself (oops too late)!! You know just cause you are a Bruins fan doesn't mean that everyone is automatically better than all Habs players right?</div></div>
You’ve said a lot of nonsense in this thread, but blaming Girard for not being a PP QB over Cale Makar (the best PP guy in the world) and Devon Toews (PP1 on most teams in the league) is the worst of the bunch.

Can’t see the Habs wanting to retain on Evans, can’t see the Avs spending much for a 4C.
I’m down for Frost though. May need a better prospect than OO though?
