If Nylander Commits to FA
The MN trade doesn't make sense for either team.
-TOR gets terrible return of 2 rentals a a 3rd pair d-man with a bit of term.
-MN can't afford to put a full team on the ice.

I think Guerin might consider it too, because it doesn't seem like the coach likes Addison or wants to work with him at all to improve. You'd definitely have to take Rathbone out though. He would be considered a negative asset by Minnesota given their depth in the NHL and the prospect pool, all he'd do is block other guys we actually like. I would counter with Addison for Raty+3rd and see where that gets us.</div></div>
I'd be fine with Raty + 6th.

No reason for either team to do this.

Allen having the extra year is a negative for MN. Gus re-signed just re-signed for 3 years. Wallstedt should be ready for the NHL after this AHL season.
Addison for Tuch is interesting from MN's PoV.

Selling at Deadline
If you're getting these types of returns MN won't be selling at the TDL because they'll be in contention.
Foligno probably tops out at a 2nd. His value won't change much due to teams getting him mainly for his "grit."
Goli, Maroon, MAF (not listed) probably each get 4th or 5th round picks, from teams looking to add injury replacement depth.
Zucc probably gets a 2nd, maybe a decent prospect on top of that.
Hartman is probably a 2nd also (his low cap hit helps a lot). He's, at best, a 3C for the rest of the Playoff teams in the league. More likely he is acquired to be a utility bottom-6 FWD.
Duhaime is a bit of a mystery return for me due to him being injured so much of last season. My gut says he could get a 3rd, but not much more.

Way to early
Having 3 centers 5'10" or shorter seems like a terrible idea to me.
I wouldn't commit term of more than 2 years to any of Dewar, Duhaime, or Foligno. Walker either breaks out an is worth well more than $1m/yr or he's just another tweener like Pitlick. MN has 3 recent 1st round FWDs that should be pushing the NHL lineup before those term longer term deals end.
I like Nylander, but not enough to pay him $10m/yr. The big hole in the team is still at center. I'd spend money on that before I worry about adding an expensive winger. It's much easier to turn a center into a winger, than it is to turn a winger into a center.

I'd really like Lindholm in MN. That being said I don't like Lindholm enough to give him $9m/yr.

The extra $600k in cap would make it hard for MN to accept. It would probably probably Faber (waivers exempt) to the AHL.
I think the value of the trade is correct, maybe even in MN's favor a little. I don't mind the trade, but I also don't see a reason for MN to make the trade.

I agree Wallstedt is the #1. I have Rossi somewhere between 5th and 10th in the prospect pool, due to thinking his floor is AHL/KHL lifer.
I also have no clue what to make of Yurov or Kumpulainen as prospects, they are just a complete mystery box to me.

I really like what AZ has done with it's FWD group this offseason. Their d-corps is weak, but I'm hoping Dumba signs there. They need a goalie, but I said the same thing about Vegas all last season. They are my pick to finish 3rd in the Central. They have a distinct home ice advantage is a big plus.

Zucc's list I have as the worst 10 teams with cap space. I don't think he's too picky where he plays as long as it's for a Playoff hockey team.
Freddy G is a moot point to me. He has a new 5 year deal, so I don't see him being a trade chip at all this year.
Maroon. Does MN even honor his NTC after the trade? It's also a moot point to me because they can just send him through waivers and then it's finders keepers for him.

Time for some to fade and some to rise
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>csick</b></div><div>Theyre doing the right think tho, fading a bit but longterm its the right move as they have a very good prospect pool and trying to wait out the buyouts</div></div>
Their prospect pool doesn't impress me. No top pair d-men, not top line (maybe not even a top-6) center, maybe 1 top line winger, and a stud goalie is how I see it. As an organization they are awful at developing anything more than bottom of the lineup players in the AHL. Soucy, Kahk, Kunin, and Tuch are the best players (that spent more than half a season in the AHL) to come though the "system" since the team moved to Iowa over a decade ago.
They've taken 6 LD from '20 and '21 draft classes (4 of them with top-65 picks and 2 overagers in later drafts). That's too much of a good thing when it comes to getting quality development time. This is the first draft I've been okay with since GMBG took over.

I could see MN falling this season. That Sweden trip really compacts the rest of their schedule this year. Any long term injury to any of Brodin, JEE or Kap could sink their season. The West is still not good overall so they works in their favor. If they were in the East I'd have them outside of the Playoffs pretty easily.

MN can't afford Granny even with that retention. They also have no reason to make that trade. Granny is a downgrade from Hartman at center, and the Wild have enough wings.

It's pretty much what Addison is going to do in MN too (maybe he's the 6D/pp specialist). Faber is already ahead of him on the depth chart.
This really is a trade that needed to happen before DET signed every d-man with a pulse in FA.

For Rossi the only interesting thing VAN has is it's '24 1st. MN has no cap space for players, and VAN's prospect pool doesn't do anything for MN. The time to trade for Rossi was at the first day of the recent draft. Now MN is better off taking their chances that he'll turn into something this year.

From MN I'd give you Addison as a RD, but not Faber or Spacek. Some of it is cap (MN can't afford both Addison and Veleno), and some of it is I like Faber and Spacek better.

If you're selling, you left off the best rental asset MN has in Zucc (only has a 10 team NTC). I also don't see him taking that big of a discount to stay in MN. He should be able to get another 20g/40a season with his eyes closed playing next to Kap.
Duhaime will get at least 4th at the TDL if he's has a healthy season.
If Rossi doesn't take a roster spot this year then his value will be shot. Newhook isn't really a good comparable to me since he has been a NHL regular for 2 full seasons. I'm thinking more of a Lias Andersson getting a 2nd type of value. More likely to me is a 1-for-1 "change of scenery, hockey trade" for another underachieving prospect.
I wouldn't sign any LD with MN having 6 of them from just the '20 and '21 draft classes. Lambos, ROR, Hunt, Peart, Benoit, and Pionk.
I agree with trading Foligno. I don't think the GM does, and will give him a $3m x 3 deal before x-mas.
Hartman is the hardest one for me to put a value on. He's MN's 1C, but ideally he belongs as 4C (maybe a 3RW). I also think he'll get massively overpaid as a UFA next offseason.

MN doesn't have the cap or any reason to make that trade.
BUF doesn't need any FWDs right now. They have enough prospects to give a chance until Quinn gets back. If they need a rental they'll get one later in the year.
WIN has no reason to trade a guy they just got.
SJS has no reason to give up anything to take on a bad contract. They'd be better off signing Dumba for a $6m x 1 deal (matching Myers current contract), keep their stuff, and trade him at the TDL and get more stuff.

tampa style deadline move
If MN is selling at the TDL, maybe, but it seems light for TDL prices. 2 waiver fodder players with no value to make the 50 man roster work, so no understandable. A recent 2nd, a 2nd two drafts away, and a 3rd three drafts away along with retention just doesn't' seem enough for both Foligno and Hartman. MN would probably be better off splitting them up in separate deals than making them a package.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Knuckl3s</b></div><div>What happened to Marco Rossi? You haven't indicated that Lindholm is anything beyond a rental</div></div>
He's small and has average, at best, speed. His overall skillset is that of a playmaking wing (Zucc) in the NHL.
He should make the NHL team out of camp due his draft position and the cap issues in MN, but it'll be setting him up for failure. He's not good enough (normal young player adjusting to the speed of the NHL) to be a Boldy or Kap line center. The bottom-6 is are all grinders, and that's not Rossi's game at all.
