Description
Carter + Petry are strictly for cap purposes, value wise they don't add much. But SJ can flip them into other assets. SJ has no leverage with EK requesting a trade, Pens give up plenty to keep the very small cup window open and Dubas makes a Rutherford size splash.

Granlund's and DeSmith's services are no longer needed or wanted. Chicago takes them on to slowly improve for Bedard while not committing to long term cap. Pens get back a very serviceable 3rd liner who can play top 6 time if needed in Johnson. Debated putting Rust in a trade as he isn't an every day top 6 forward nor should we keep that contract much longer.

But let's all be real with these "rumors", and I think this is as close to real as it'll get. Pens will have to pay to get rid of the bad contracts and the retained money.

EK65 didn't really request a trade in that way, nor is he forcing the Sharks to trade him. Grier isn't in a rush and is only going to trade him if its the right trade. The Sharks don't lack leverage because they don't actually need to trade him, it just makes sense to.

Hawks pass on that. If we're retaining on Johnson and taking on Granlund as a cap dump, you're going to need to pay significantly more than that

Sharks aren’t adding a bargain center to the deal. $4.5 mil retention a year is rather steep, especially taking back Petry and Carter

Carter most likely isn't waiving he specifically said he didn't want to move his Family as the reason for the NMC.
