Trade for a Center

Created by: Kuch813
Team: 2018-19 Arizona Coyotes
Initial Creation Date: May 7, 2018
Published: May 7, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
A talented youngish forward core, with a few slightly older players with good experience. An average defense core, but one that has enough insulation for Boqvist to be thrown directly in and grow. Goaltending that can be above average but will have to show consistency, in order for them to have success. The team can probably be about a .500 team, but possibly sneak into the playoffs if goaltending can steal a few games during the season, which is probably the blueprint for a budget team like Arizona. Lots of contracts sliding off in three years, so that they can possibly skip the bridge on a guy like Boqvist and re-sign Raanta easily if he pans out. They have some young guys that they can bridge, but can probably look to skip the bridge on Keller if he keeps up his play. Do you think this is something they could pull off if they really are trying to be a competitive budget team that stays in Arizona? Do you think Buffalo would consider something like this to give them a potentially ridiculous defense core going forward?

That is an interesting 1 for 1 trade and I don't think it's far off. I would think ARI needs to add value bc O'Riley has more term left on his contract than OEL but otherwise that could be a great start.

I would also add some depth scoring - Grabner, Nash, Maroon, someone else to shore up the bottom six and i think you have a team that could surprise some folks.

You think something like a conditional pick (that gets upgraded if Ekman-Larsson walks) would work? Like a conditional 2nd in 2019 that becomes a lottery-protected 1st if he walks, or is that too much?

I was thinking it was slightly in Arizona's favour because OEL is a #1D and ROR is a 2C. The contract length evens it out. Don't think a pick is needed.

Wow it would be fantastic to pick up oel. We have some bad contracts that drop off soon, i dont think there would be any hesitation to offer him a ton of money, just a question of would he stay. Calling ror a 2c is an oversimplification.

Good trade for both sides. Would be crazy to see Buffalo with Scandella Risto and OEL Dhalin pairings.

This makes sense although Im pretty sure Arizona wants to keep OEL. I feel if they know they can't resign him and he'd be willing to sign with buffalo, then this makes 100% sense.

I think GMBots would be certainly willing to make this deal if he knew that OEL would be willing to sign an extension in Buffalo. Short of that I do not think GMBots would make the deal if he risks only one year of OEL. That is too much risk to take on.... I think he best play is to find that right defenseman that will be here for a long enough period of time to help develop Dahlin.... one year of OEL is not enough and actually would probably do more harm than good to the man child Dahlin.

I think overall this could be a good trade but OEL has way more value as a #1 defenseman. If O'Reilly was younger then it might work but Buffalo needs to add.

OEL is a #1 defensemen and O'Reilly is a #2 center who is overpaid. Regardless, defensemen have more value. If O'Reilly was 25 and about to hit his prime then this might work but right now the value isn't there for OEL.
