Leafs should do Nylander for Trouba+. And a 4th round pick will never land you Nyquist, Holland would not sell that low on him even if that was most he was going to get

He is really good prospect, plays underrated game but rather than Nielsen I would give WPG a fwd prospect or goalie which they would definitely use.

no way Nyquist only costs a 4th

he is still a 20g - 40p scorer, even if you're just renting him, would cast you a 2nd and a 3rd

Nielsen isn't even projected to be an NHLer now.

This cap doesn't work as it forces the Leafs into full Performance Bonus carryover. Trouba can't be have contract negotiations till January so to think he going to sign with Leafs....more fantasy. There are two reasons why Trouba doesn't want to sign long term with the Jets, and the reasons hold true for the Leafs. He's going to be a UFA in 2020. And that Nygquist trade?

I agree and i really don't know if Trouba is a good fit overall. Does his skill set fit what we need....Yes. but it seems he is more interested in being overpaid than winning. In my opinion he is only worth 5.5-6 × 8 but seems to think he is worth alot more and for a team like the leafs we need players that know their true value and want yo win championships and will take small paycuts to be part of it like Tavares did.

Mathews is under paid by 2 million, a bridge contract for Nylander would be 2 years, If you want Trouba the minimum prospect going to Winnipeg would be Liligren, Marner could ask for closer to 8 million (I think he will take a discount though so your not far off) and the Nyquist trade is just one sided for Toronto.

Trouba trade makes sense as long as Gardiner resigns with them. Zero need to get Nyquist. Marleau, Hyman, Johnsson, and Grundstrom are good enough to play on those lines and produce or they might as well retire

There are 2 issues here that make this scenario a bad 1.

1) Trouba's attitude is questionable, he's not even attempted to cooperate with the team and has made it clear he wants to dictate where he plays in the lineup and where he plays in general. That is enough red flags for me to pass on him.

2) The whole Nylander is going to get a bridge deal like Kucherov is misguided. Firstly because bridge deals haven't been done since Kucherov signed his and 2ndly because they are not a good long term investment. Name me a player who got a bridge deal and then signed a smaller deal in the 3rd contract? Exactly there are none. Even looking at Kucherov if Yzerman would have given him an 8 year deal 3 years ago, he'd be looking at having 6 more years of a super star making around 7.5 million a season. Now he gets to pay a guy turning 27, 9.5 million for the next 8 years. Its fine for 3-4 years but when he starts declining, then its a problem.

This is why Nylander should get 8 years at 7.5 million. Even if he only improves by about 10 points a season he's still worth that much. Personally I think Nylander is going to score at or above a point a season for most of his 20's and bridging him will only lead to a cap problem when he leaves his bridge deal. If he scores 80+ in one of his bridge seasons, he'll ask for 8 years at 8+. Get him locked up long term.
