I am not so sure, that would likely at worst be a top 5 pick.

Well it was supposed to be Hughes and you couldn’t stop any avs fans from thinking that. Now it looks like a 5-10 pick. Nylander is a for sure thing.

Does anyone think Ottawa is going to keep this up? They'll lose 7 in a row at least twice more this season.

No I don’t think they’ll keep this up... at the moment it would be 14th overall... I think 5-10 is more likely.

They are only a rush team and that won't last.

Ottawa won't make the playoffs but, I don't think they are going to be that bad either

For both firsts it’s pretty intriguing but we are not trading nylander.

Okay I think I'd disagree on that, two first rounders would be pretty awesome.

Not at all. At least they shouldn't. I agree with all your replies on this post.

You’d trade nylander for two firsts?

Its a risk but if he had to be traded having 3 firsts in the first round gives you a huge boost to the farm and that could mean having another wave of power coming 3-4 years from now.

you are not getting 2 1st rounders for Nylander, especially the Sens on top of that. Avs would probably consider the Sens pick straight up but they aren't getting another 1st with it

If Ottawa is dead last there is a 50% or so chance they pick 4th. Since this draft is heavy in forwards my guess is they’d want Makar and Colorado’s 1st or Timmins and Ottawa’s pick. Either way leafs take lots of risk.

I think most Avs fans wouldn't and it's nothing to do with Hughes. Firstly, it's still likely a lottery pick. Secondly, that's a cost controlled player who thirdly probably doesn't have the same baggage as Nylander (whether he is or not, he's going to have prima donna baggage from now until his career ends), fourth I still don't think Nylander is 'all that', fifth the pick could still be a better player than Nylander and sixth and most importantly, the Avs have other players to sign who are more important than Nylander.

But the Avs do have a good amount of cap room, so the could fit him in salary wise.

For now...….but...…..Rantanen's value is going up, then there are Andrighetto, Wilson, Kerfoot, Compher, Dries, Kamenev, Dano, Zadorov, Varlamov, Nemeth to re-sign (depending on who the Avs decide to keep and for what money), and one should also note Jost & Girard the following season. You don't plan around one season.

True but I'm sure they'd value Nylander over some others & would budget accordingly.
eg they're probably not gonna resign Varlamov with Grubauer locked up

Grubauer doesn't convince me yet. If they can sign Varly reasonably they should. Girard is going to take big money the following year I think to tie him up long term. If the Avs were going to take a big money risk they'd be better off on a sign and trade for Stone or trying to sign him in FA. As I stated earlier, that 1st could be an equal if not better player than Nylander as well. I hope Joe wouldn't be stupid enough to make this trade. He would go down as a GM in my estimations.

Fair enough, though I imagine Stone will cost more then Nylander (in $$$) but is more of a proven commodity.
