That's essentially the core trade. It's too hard on this site to keep people off your throat if you put too high (or too many) picks in a trade.

A package of Maata and Brassard could get you Drouin + imo. Maata is a decent top 4 guy and brassard if utilized correctly could be a 2C and hes on a cheap deal right now for teams after they ate his salary in the trade to the penguins. Btw... that was some shady stuff the way that 3 way was done. Anyways, dont be afraid to post whatever you want. In the end, 90% of the people have no clue what they are talking about and seriously do not watch hockey. The other 10% watch it religiously and could actually become a GM one day. smile

Montreal rejects that 1st trade. Danault is one of the most important pieces on this team. That trade would open a bigger hole than it would fill.

Can probably fetch a better return but I really like Danault and he is probably closer to what Bonino was for this team than Brassard was ever going to be. Just different types of players. I like that we would get a pick back too. The Ferland trade is manageable, while I think Jarry & a first is plenty. If there was a way to get him on that contract for those assets, then by all means go for it. Defense takes a hit for sure, I think I would rather use Simon/Jarry/pick to acquire a top4 dman, similar to the Muzzin trade (just someone cheaper). I also would LOVE to have Boyle on the Penguins. He always kills us when he plays against us and I think he would make a huge impact on the locker room, which could be the best trade of all.

Overall, good trades and I really like the players you are bringing in. I just think we are losing a lot for those guys and only Danault has contract longevity. This is definitely a good team, though!

Brassard would fill that hole though. He has more offensive punch than danault, and if Habs could resign him, that would be a steal for them. If they can’t resign him though, it makes little sense for both teams

I am not a pens or Habs fan but remember this, Brassard is a UFA and Danault isnt. This is key in every trade. I think this is fair...maybe switch the 3rd for a 2nd but...

The thing is, Montreal doesn't care about offense on Danault's line, It's about stopping the other team's top line from scoring, any offense is just a bonus. I don't know alot about Brassard so i'm gonna speculate, but Danault is very underrated when it comes to his defensive game.

not necessarily true, Montreal is poised to make the playoffs and Brassard shines in the post season. I think if anything their team gets much better this year, unless they aren't planning on contending (which wouldn't make sense)

This forcing too much IMO. Even though the value may be good, Habs don't have interest in moving Danault. The points don't show it but he's been a Patrice Bergeron lite this year and probably Habs best all round center. Better than Domi having bigger numbers this year so far.

Habs do want Maatta though and Im sure for the right price they'd take Brassard but both together is trying to force too much into a trade they're not entirely sure on making IMO.

The only guys that makes sense for the Habs to trade out for Maatta is either Lehkonen or Armia. Possibly both but probably not. Maybe with a pick or not, it'll all depend on negotiation at that point. Not sure that's what Pittsburgh would want but that's pretty much all that the Habs would offer, that would at least peak their interest . As for Brassard, it really depends on what the going rate is. If it is a 1st and a prospect, Habs are out. They'll only add this guy if its for a slight underpayment. They aren't resigning him and they aren't going all in for a cup so whats the point then from their perspective.

I dknt think MTL foes that trade. Danault is 25 entering his prime years, Brassard hasnt been healthy the past 2 years and hasnt been good this year, Matta is only a 4-5 dman who doesnt skate well enough to be a match for Weber.

I think using both players, Maatta and Brassard, Pens could get a much better offer than Danault and a 3rd. As a Pens fan, I'd be piss to see a trade like that happen. But I don't think JR would do that at all. I don't think Ferland worths that much, cause he's a rental. In your scenario he re-signs with Pens, ok. But it'd happen after the trade. So his value is less than that, in my opinion. I liked Boyle's trade. He's a good bottom-6 two-way player, who loves to score goals againts Pens. Besides, he's very good on PK, he gives 100% every single game and he still can play physical. So, he would be a nice add thinking about playoffs games style.
