Laine Bridge Connor 5 years Trouba 3 years Keep Hayes

Created by: chezyldayoff
Team: 2019-20 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 1, 2019
Published: Mar. 1, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just tossing around contract numbers to see if we could perhaps keep Hayes around if he develops chemistry with our young wingers.

We'd need to trade Perrault, Kulikov and Broissoit and give Appleton, Poolman and Comrie full time NHL jobs but I think they are ready.

I like the depth of that team and its a great job. The only thing is I cant see Trouba getting 3 years or re-signing there so Im sure theyre going to trade him unless they win the cup

If Trouba re-signs, its for a longer term

Trouba hasn't forgone signing long term in Winnipeg this long only to cave and sign a 3 year deal now. It's quite clear he intends to hit free agency in 2020 or do a sign and trade to the team of his choice before that.

So Trouba suddenly, when he just one year away from UFA, now decides to sign long term contract from the Jets.
Ottawa might be able to do spend their money better than that taking Kulivov at his 4.1m. contact.

You are lucky if you get anything for MP or DK considering their Clauses, age and production. Most likely giving assets to move them to teams on their trade clauses.
Trouba is done in WPG unless he just signs a 1 yr tender and they are content with just wingin it

Their clauses only hinder the Jets...not the teams that they are traded to.
Kulikov will be an easy trade as he is a decent player with only next year left. Perreault has two more so if a team has space and want vet leadership, he is the one. If the jets didnt need the space, those two players would not be moved as POMO likes them.

These players are different than Steve Mason, cuz we did not want him(not exactly his cap hit) so thats why he was indeed a cap dump(hence MTL buying him out)

We'll see about that. Not every GM is going to fold like a card house like Dubas did. Without arbitration rights your only option is to sit out the year and move back the age you become a UFA, unless the GM just gives that all away like the Leafs did to Nylander and Matthews. This offseason will be interesting because 3 teams (Oilers, Leafs and Sabres) have started a trend, will that continue or will teams snap it back to how the collective agreement was designed?

Tampa bay can't afford to pay Point like a UFA, Jets can't really afford to pay Connor and Laine as UFAs, Colorado may not want to pay Rantanan way more than Mac, will the Flames pay Tkachuk like that? People can speculate offer sheets and maybe there might even be a couple, but I don't think it will be on any of the big names. It's likely mid tier players with moderate pick compensation that would be the ones that are successful.

It's going to get messy because the Leafs folded. Trouba tried it and Jets stood strong and said no. I expect that to happen again in Winnipeg and also in Tampa Bay (out of necessity) It remains to be seen if the Nylander, Matthews, Eichel, Drai, McDavid deals are the new norm or the exceptions. It's only 3 teams that are currently operating like that and really Buffalo had to make sure Eichel was happy at the time and the Chia doesn't have a job anymore. I guess we'll find out if it was a rookie mistake by Dubas or if he's seeing the future.

Yeah but they have the ability to cut down the # of teams they can be moved to which hurts their value.

MP has 3/4th line level production at 2 years left at 4M. That’s a big woof
DK has 4 (FOUR) points in half a season and is a 6/7 D on a good team with a year left at 4M
    Woof.

You will be lucky to get anything. Most likely giving to get them off your roster.

I expect Trouba to be gone, but much like the exercise with Stone, we can still make it all work if Hayes ends up being a good fit and wanting to stay.

If Hayes stays I expect that pushes Little to RW and we run Scheif(25), Hayes(26), Lowry(25), Copp(24) down the middle. Then we're solid down the middle for a long time as they're all just entering their prime right now. Having an extra winger means we probably trade one of the bigger names for a RHD. I was always assuming it was going to be Connor to the Canes for Pesce as the basis of a deal, but the trade with Columbus at the deadline has me thinking we could be working on something with them. They want Roslovic bad, being the only Columbus born player in the NHL, and why would we do them the favour of taking Broadhursts contract for future considerations? We didn't even move him to the Moose and he's going to be a UFA after the season. Maybe Roslovic for Savard or Nutivaara if/when Trouba is dealt.

Anyhow, to me it actually all hinges on Trouba and then Hayes. From there we'll fit in Connor and Laine and bridge/trade them if we have to. Perreault is probably traded (sadly) as I really like him but I have done one where we keep both Kulikov and Perrault but Trouba, Connor and Roslovic are traded and Myers walks as a UFA and Laine is bridged. Bonus though, we keep Tanev.

If Hayes was willing to sign for that much and that long we would’ve kept him...

Honestly most of these deals are pretty fair. Maybe add 500K for Laine's bridge, and 500K to for the Hayes contract. I'm not 100% sure if Trouba would sign that, but it's not out of the realm of possibility. But personally I'd rather trade him for a cheaper top 4 RHD

Trouba isn't signing no 3 year deal, All indications are that he plan on hitting free agency in the summer of 2020. He wants out of Winnipeg for the East Coast of the US by all accounts.
