Pretty sure the Oilers would rather move Yamamoto then Benson. Benson soared to our top F prospect this year and Nylander struggled for large portion of the year(0.5PPG player vs the 0.75PPG in previous two years) which is probably why it feels like overpay.

If the Oilers go into next year without adding any actual puck-moving defenceman (as shown above) then it really doesn’t matter how many new forwards they add.

The Oilers will NEVER succeed with their current defence hard-wrapping the puck or firing it high off the glass.

As much as people want to believe the forwards are the issue with the Oilers....the fact that they can’t transition the puck and allow 270+ goals a year is the real problem.

The Oilers have 3 good puck moving dmen in the AHL and Persson coming from SHL. Jones in my opinion is 90% to make the roster next year, but might be waiting game til 2020-21 season til some others are ready. I do fully agree, we need better passing dmen especially since we have two of the best transition forwards in the league

The Oilers CANNOT go into next season expecting players with little to no NHL experience to succeed, especially on defence. That’s what they’ve done the past 12 years with little success. The time is now for the Oilers... they can’t keep using development as an excuse.

Would you consider trading Klefbom or Nurse?

It’s not an excuse bud, the oilers have legitimate prospects now. Jones and bear are both good puck movers and have two years of AHL experience under their belt.

I was suggesting one player was ready and he was one of the best looking dmen we had in his stint during Klefbom injury this year. Jones has 17 NHL games and 112 AHL games played currently still in the playoffs, He isn't a fresh rookie and he took huge step since last year. Which is why I said I think there's 90% chance he makes the roster because I think he is better then 50% of our current defence.

he was so unlucky this year it was awful. he got a point taken away because brown tried to take a slap shot and missed but the puck went to someone who scored, he also shot around 5 percent which will never happen again, once he gets back to around 11% he will be fine offensively and wont be traded

Yeah I think he'll have a bounce back year next year too. He needs to play a full season!

The D is terrible. That won't work. We tried rolling with just offensive forwards before. Remember the days we had Mcdavid, Maroon and Eberle, Hall, Draisitl and RNH + other variations including Purcell, Pouliot, Yakapov. It didn't work.

Need the combo of good d(puck moving D) and forwards.

The problem is that Toronto would rather have a LW than a RW. If Dubas makes he decision to move Nylander during the summer, this is a deal he might make.

probably around 1-1.5 million. he had a really high shooting percentage and was really lucky. if he had a history of doing what he did last season the contract would be reasonable but it was a one time thing. i imagine he would make less then zach hyman, i just dont think he will be able to repeat the season he had
