This is awful. Petterson is probably better than Hughes and Kakko. You're completely overvaluing the "get the Hughes brothers together" narrative. Vancouver laughs at that deal and never picks up your calls again.

What part of "Godfather Offer" do you fools not get. Obviously its an over pay, but Vancouver has made it public it will try to trade up for Hughes. There is no other offer that would work for the Rangers to give up a near guaranteed franchise player unless they get a near guaranteed franchise player in return, and then some. Also, Hughes with 3 years of an ELC before a big second contract is a big difference than Petterson with only 2 years left on his ELC. Its basically a full year of not having to pay a 10% cap hit during what should be a window to compete for both teams. If the Canucks are dead set on the marketing and sales benefits of a decade of the Hughes brothers coming in to sell jerseys like the Sedin's did, they are gonna have to pay to get him.

If Hughes falls to number 2, that's a big IF given the popularity of centers nowadays, why wouldn't the Rangers keep their 2nd overall pick, then aim to land Q. Hughes from Canucks? They can send Skjei the other way for him. Both Hughes now on Rangers, Canucks keep the best of the two players, and Canucks still have a young LHD they get in return.

If you can find me one Canucks fan in the world that would accept this deal, let me know. I think you're overvaluiing the Hughes narrative, and undervaluing what they think of Petterson there.
