8 years for Aho are going to cost +$10M I'd say. His ask for the new contract was $9,5M x 5.

Yea I wouldn't mess around with Carolina's line up very much. Doesn't mean us Leaf fans won't keep trying :P.

what's a reasonable Pesce deal from your perspective?

I don’t think there’s a pesce trade that makes sense for the canes with his salary and trading de Haan. If it’s to Toronto though it better start with Nylander

I figured as much...I'd seriously look at a Nylander deal. Wouldn't have said that last season, but cap space is proving to be a significant asset with the cap ceiling coming in lower than anticipated.

How far away from a straight up Willy-Pesce is the valuation?

Not likely. Someone's gonna offer sheet him eventually.

And CAR is going to match. Even if the deal is close $11M per year.

Aho is worth that, he's so good.

Love Lehner for the Canes, that would be a fantastic signing. Think he makes $1M more per year, though.

Or on another roster because a 10.5 mil offer sheet is not that unrealistic if he wont pay or trade him. Aho is worth more than Marner, and yet leaf fans get it smashed in their faces all day that marner will get 11+ mil. Its just hilarious. Aho will be in the 9s over 5 I have no doubt

Overpayment by toronto but they will say opposite. Quality dmen are great to have locked up cheap, but Pesces value is out of control on this site, like mushrooms on juice out of control

Lets be clear about this. If you aren't willing to pay him 10.6, some other team will pay slightly under that and give you 2 late 1st round picks for him.
I'm pretty sure the penguins could make it work at this point.

It is...but I think most people don't understand the game he brings. If we traded Nylander and everyone thought Pesce could put up 50+ points and shut down on D..they'd be 50% right. The analytics on Pesce are astounding as far as shutting down scoring opportunities against. He's not a flashy guy and, my fear is that his efforts would mostly go underappreciated...but when you consider how valuable cap space is right now...I wouldn't have a problem gambling on this type of deal
