Make it 5 years, so you don't pay as much in draft picks

The Leafs will match to keep Marner as he is a franchise player.

New York is the last team that can afford a guy like Marner. You would need to buyout or pay heavily to get rid of strome and names

Likely, but they’re in cap hell with Matthews and Tavares’ contracts. They’d likely move Nylander out to get it done though.

I honestly don’t think we’d have too much trouble moving those guys, they’re pretty good players on decent contracts. We would get less value back though but it’d be worth it.

Agree that Nylander will be moved in the future to free up cap space.

Marner has lead Leafs in points for the last 2 years and would have lead the team in points in his rookie year if he did not miss some games. I think any player that leads his team in points basically in his first 3 years in the league is a franchise player. He is actually more valuable than Matthews when you consider he also is a great penalty killer.

marner will get at least 11 mill - it wouldn’t be smart to keep nylander. Trade him for defense. Leafs fans are actually content with Cody Ceci in the top 4? He’s worse than Zaitsev

Giving him a shot with a good partner won’t hurt. Has talent and he was a first round pick if he turns out to be like he was in Ottawa then you make a move

My bad, it would have to be 10.5 for lower picks.
Although I think Marner wants 5 years anyway.

Not guaranteed. If it's 4 first rounders from a playoff bubble team (like the Rangers), they take the picks and let Marner go. Marner isn't a franchise player, and they couldn't afford this price anyway.

I mean, they are 3 million over the cap and already paying cheap on defense and goaltending. Not saying they wouldn’t be able to make it work but Nylander prob has to go and it’s still gonna be tough to fit.

Marner is a player that is worth more than the 4 first round picks which in realty may not be in the top 10 in each of the 4 years. As a result, the Leafs would just match and keep their franchise/generational player.

It would certainly be a lot to give up, but the Rangers being a bubble team for the next few years with bad to zero lottery odds, I guarantee they don’t find anyone close to a Marner with those picks. He’s a very rare talent and honestly a bit underrated. I’ll take Marner and some smart second round picks.

We're getting a little loose with the terminology here. And by little, I mean a lot.
