if they stick slavin on the second pair I think they're a playoff DNQ. You're right, it's very tough to tell. I have a feeling their a bubble team. If they get good goaltending they'll be good, if they get bad goaltending they'll be bad.

All hinges on Mrazek. The skaters are certainly good enough to make the playoffs. Adding in Dzingel and Haula, on top of a full year of Nino and progression from their youngsters.

no you're right. Their back end is so good. Slavin is rapidly becoming the most underrated player in the league. Pesce is great. Dougie is soft but good. I'm actually a big fan of Faulk. The forward depth is lacking. I really think it just comes down to goaltending.

You're right that it's a tough team to project. It could be very easy to say that they just got hot and won't be this good, but on the other hand, it's a very young team that should only be getting better. That's why I think the season hinges on Mrazek performing like a capable #1 goalie, otherwise they could be in trouble.

LOL everyone knows how good he is. Just like Barkov ... Barkov is considered to be underrated by lots of people but basically everyone knows he's a top 10 player in the league, or at least arguably top 10. But some people still consider Lucic to be overrated when everyone knows he is a 4th liner. Overrated and overpaid are two different things.

You're not saying he's 2nd pair though, are you? Are you saying if he's playing 2nd pair that means their defence is really good? It is a really good defence but i'd want him on my top pair. I think he's the best d-man on the Canes.

I'd like to disagree on your point regarding the forward depth. Haula had a 30 goal season 2 years ago, he had a bad leg break last year that limited his time on the ice though. Dzingel Niderriter Staal and potentially Williams will normally add somewhere in the region of 20 goals each. Teuvo Teravainen and Sebastian Aho were both a point per game last year (or near enough for Teravainen) and Svechnikov could really boom this year. Then you have guys like Martinook who scored 15 goals last year, McGinn who had a down year last year but he had 16 goals the year before that. Warren Foegele also seems to be a streaky player. He had 7 points in 5 games then turned into a ghost. If he continues the way he was playing in the playoffs I think you'll find that this is one of the deepert forward cores. They don't have the front end talent fair enough. But their is certainly nothing wrong with their depth.

Metro will be super competitive this year, really hard to say. Outside of Washington its all a coin toss. Will Mrazek play like an A tier goalie again? Philly looks really strong now, Pittsburgh will always be an issue, can Trotz pull off best coach again, what about healthy Hall, Lundqvust gonna hold up or Georgiev gonna step up? way too many question marks
