Tough call. Given their contracts, I'd say it's pretty even. You said it in your description: McDavid is the better player, but MacKinnon isn't too far behind at half the price.

Fair assessment. But the way I see it, its 4 years of MacKinnon vs 7 of McDavid. Even at the much lower cap hit, 7 years is a big difference from 4. And McDavid was already the best player in the league at age 21. Imagine if he gets better. I think Colorado needs to add a little bit

Neither team would do it. As an Avs fan I keep MacKinnon. If I were an Oilers fan I'd guess at them wanting to keep McDavid. But straight up, there's not much difference.
