The classic pendulum reaction. You find this unfair so you swing it so far the other direction that you now sound equally as silly. Jones is great but come on, Marner + a top prospect is a joke. Jones is great and maybe I'd even be okay with Marner in a one for one but Matthews? That is just insane.

The trades I was talking about were Marner or Matthews for Jones straight up, or Nylander+ top d prospect.

Columbus really would rather get the center coming back and if we are going to pay someone 11+ mil it would be better have have that as a center. Marner is a better wing then a center at this point.

Okay. But my old post also had the Leafs getting Korpisalo and PLD, somehow. It would have had them in the playoffs. Don't remember what they had to add to balance that. Must've been good.

That is probably right. This is not that. If the offer is just "Kapanen, Liljegren, 1st?" Then the conversation is polite and reasonably upbeat, whatever the result. Is that a good idea for Toronto, long term? Depends. Maybe two out of three peieces end up better than Jones in five years. So it makes more sense for Toronto to just offer Nylander on a one for one, and move Kapanen up the lineup.

Although if the Leafs are in win now (next 2/3 seasons) than sending Kapenen, Lily, Bracco and a 1st rnd to get Jones Today probably favors the Leafs today but could just as easily favor CBJ in 4/5 years

When you're attempting to trade for a top player in any sport, you don't start the conversation with "Yeah, you can't have either of our top prospects, or any of our stars up front".

No team look as Jones as rebuild player. It's more immediate since he 2.5 years away from UFA. You're right Kapanen. Liljegren and first is more reasonable offer. Good chance there would other teams who feel they are contenders for couple of years that put together a package similar and better.

That’s the price. If you don’t want to pay you don’t get him. Jones if far and above our best player on one of the best contracts in the league. Top 5 RHD in the league and can play as much as you need, he’s had a few games this season of 30+ minutes due to injuries.

He ain’t coming at a fair price. You’ll have to wow Columbus to get him.

This over valuing of Jones is crazy. Yes he is good. Top 3... no... top 3 rhd? No.

If I were startinging a team I would go with Carlson, Ellis and Parayko or makar.

Other rhd that are better than jones... petro doughty burns ekblad trouba. Just off the top of my head.

Again this is just my opinion. You are completely entitled to yours.
