Offer up - Andreas Johnsson for centerman

Created by: SammyT_51
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 3, 2020
Published: Jan. 3, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Give me offers for that scenario. Need some ideas. Ideally defensively reliable third line centerman who can kill penalties and has some speed. Does not need to produce much, he would produce on Leafs in some capacity. Could be a package deal of some sorts with backup if you feel, but mainly defensive 3C.

****ING EDIT: Similar age and similar cap hit or lower!

How about a swap of injured players?

    Toronto Maple Leafs
Andrew Shaw (28, can play center, defensively reliable, gritty, clutch)
    Chicago Blackhawks
    Johnsson

    Nope unless you retain.

David Quinn is not head coach of the Leafs. Keefe doesnt use overpaid Dmen on offense.

This started off great Sammy. In all honesty, I'm getting a kick out of it.

Jeff Carter with some retention would be an interesting fit on the Leafs.

Aging, but only a couple years left on contract, still has his speed and a scoring touch. Terrible last year because of his injury two years ago, but has been very good for the Kings this year. He also brings the "it" factor and a veritable crap-ton of playoff experience, which is a bit lacking on the Leafs roster. Always been a go-to PK'er for the Kings when Kopitar isn't on the ice. That would be a scary 3C.

Trevor Lewis would be another Kings player that could fit the bill, at a lesser cost. But much lower production.

The guy you want is Joel Eriksson Ek, but Wild probably not interested in this trade.

You shouldn't do it even if he retained 50%

Get a 3rd line centre to keep Kerf on the LW?

Not a bad idea, but to be honest I could see Brooks being the 3rd line centre next year.

Jared McCann and Radek Faksa fit the bill. Don’t see either of those players being moved though. Johnsson isn’t going to fetch a center the same age and caliber you described. Teams usually hang on to those guys for a reason.

A project like lias andersson or nolan patrick could be interesting, but if the leafs are looking for a 3C upgrade in the short term I think Eric Staal would be a great addition. Still puts up points, plays with an edge, and brings a ton of veteran leadership.
