Gibson for Andersen

Created by: Trickster
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 22, 2020
Published: Jan. 25, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Thinking about this a while.

If Ducks wanna rebuild, makes sense to move out long term contracts.

Andersen is top notch goalie but has no term left.
Gibson is also a top notch goalie IMO with term left.

Ducks could turn around flip Andersen for assets easily, Ducks could easily address their goaltending short term via free agency without long term deals.

What would need to be added in the trade for this to work?

He’s a very good goalie. Top 3 in the world? No.

Well you have to consider the quality of chances he faces vs other top goalies face. It's no secret that the Leafs are not good defensively and so if Andersen isn't on his game (like we seen recently) the Leafs usually lose.
A win usually entails 5-6 saves off those high quality chances I mentioned. Sometimes more.

I understand that.
Has nothing to do with him not being top 3.

Ducks have 0 reason to do this. Gibson is still young enough that they can do a quick rebuild and be competitive while he is still a good NHL goalie. Even if they did want to get rid of him for futures they would just trade him directly for picks/prospects instead of getting Andersen first then flipping him.

you are not even close to being in the ballpark to get Ducks to move Gibson. You are going to have to toss some real assets their way, and thats not Freddie. Swing and a miss

I dont know if this was a joke, trolling, or serious bc its so off the mark it boggles the mind

Probably not within 2 years but they already have a pretty good prospect pool right now so if they trade off some of their older/expiring players for assets to add to what they already have then i think in 4 years they could be back in the mix. They have a ton of prospects/rookies/young-players at forward (Zegras, Steel, Lundestrom, Comtois, Tracey, Jones, etc) and some ok D (Guhle, Mahura). If they trade guys like Getzlaf with 50% retained they can probably get a 1st or a good D prospect. They will also get a pretty good pick in this draft and have a decent shot at winning the lottery which would be a massive boost

I have seen heard of their FW depth, shows promise.

Do you they have D depth???
I mean Lindholm is up in 2 years right? And Manson too, although he is looking like the Manson of the past.

Any goalie in their system to watch for?

You want to laugh when asking what should be added to the trade??? Way to add to this ACGM.

Trickster, I agree with you on a lot of things....but not this. A rebuild doesn't mean you trade good valued players just to get younger. Gibson is a top goalie, on a great long term contract. Ducks would not have interest in trading him, especially for 1.5 year goalie, Andersen.

I dont see any conceivable scenario where the ducks have a swap of Gibson and Anderson, even as the base of a trade.

You clearly have not watched Andersen play at all. He faces high quality chances more than 3 times every game. People point to his stats not being as good as other top goalies around the league but when considering those high grades chances teams get against him...yeah he's a top goalie.

Go watch some Leafs games if you have any doubt.

He's so good in his last 5 starts he's been pulled twice and is posting below a .900 sv% with an average of 27 shots per game. The guy is not looking good this year. You want to look at a great goalie, try Lehner posting a .922 this season while facing 37 shots on average. Andersen is not a top 3 or 5 or even top 10 goalie this season. Gibson is unreal.

They have assets to move for defense prospects. And just because some D men contracts expire doesn't mean they can't re sign them.

A goalie in their system? Lol isn't this whole thread about John Gibson?

Yeah...because Andersen is the only player ever to go through a slump. I got it...you are such a homer that only what you said above can be true.

Your such a homer you can't see the reality that facing 27 shots is not a big deal. "Andersen faces more then 3 high quality shots a game"...LMAO are you serious? You think that's rare??? Like I said, Lehner does all that and more. Don't sit here and tell people Andersen is a top flight goalie...he's not. He is playing like a middle tier goalie this year and that's what he looks like and stats back that up.

You're such a homer you're too proud to admit or you just don't watch enough hockey outside of the Leafs to realize Andersen isn't a top 5 or even top 10 goalie. What's moronic is thinking Andersen can get you Gibson..not shocking coming from a Leafs fan though.
