Ripping off would not be adding the first

The lottery protection on that pick needs more explaining. Lottery protected this year to unprotected next year? 2021 lottery protected again moving to 2022? Moves to a 2nd/3rd combo? You can't just say lottery protected because what the protection actually is makes a big difference.

Also I don't see the Panthers trading Trochek.

My guess is that Panthers would prefer to trade from off their current roster if they can. And there is plenty to pick from.

Maybe Tippett or Denisenko (or even Borgstrom) in Risto deal.

FLA would have to make salary work in separate deal.

Because Risto has such a high perceived value but he actually stinks. Buffalo would walk away like bandits

I cant see the sabres moving a top 10 pick, which is where it will be. I assume "lottery protected" means- if you win a 1-3 lottery spot, but others may see it differently.

you're absolutely right, I just wasn't sure what conditions I should put. maybe top 5 protected and then it moves to 2021?

It's Buffalo though. Risto will probably become great, the pick they get turns into a franchise player, and Trochek will not workout.

You think that buffalo adding a top 10 pick in a solid draft has them walking away like bandits here?

maybe top 5 protected

So for instance, the Leafs pick this year is top-10 protected, and if their pick is in the top-10 it moves to 2021 unprotected. The "lottery" is technically every pick in the top 15, and since Buffalo will finish there, it's not a great condition.

A more likely trade would be Ristolainen and a conditional 2021 2nd (turns into first if Sabres make 2021 Playoffs) for Trocheck

because Risto sucks. but you're right a top 10 pick has some value. maybe make it 2021 first?

you're right, a top 10 pick for Trochek is already a decent return. Make it a 2020 first round pick top 10 protected, if not, 2021 first
