The cap likely won't be that high but it's possible. It was surprising to many how low the cap it was for this season, so there might be a bigger raise than normal.

Gotta be honest, I don't think it's worth it to get Pietrangelo. One guy won't come in and solve their defensive issues. Construct an adequate D, and get the forwards to actually do their jobs on the defensive side of game.

Even if the cap is that high, it forces the Leaf to a 21 unworkable roster. And no Dermot on the roster. Again this silly fascination that a right hand Dman is going to bring the Leafs to the promised land,

For 9m, keep Dermot and have two competent Dmen at 3.25m. and have a full roster.

I agree with you on the forwards needing to play smarter (defensively) but I still do think Dubas will need to address RHD.

Definitely he does. I just don't think Pietrangelo is the way to do it. The Leafs need defensive depth and one guy, no matter who it is, doesn't equal depth. If the Leafs did this and Petro got injured, they'd be just as boned on RD as they are right now.

The cap is actually expected to be 84.5 to 85 ish. The only reason it might be lower is if CBA negotiations limit it to a 2 mil increase, which as of now doesn't seem likely

I see Maple Leafs fans still overvalue all the players.
