mostly yes. If the trade happened at the deadline in February I could see Dallas sending a 1st. A 2nd for Kapenan would be at any other time (summer trade, regular season trade) but if Dubas plans to move Kapenan it will be at the winter deadline.

I was toying with Kapanen + Der-Arguchinstev instead, but I'm not entirely sure how high the Leafs are on SDA. Thoughts?

Bracco is basically useless. The difference between Kap and Faska isn’t a first. Faska is a good defensive centre who should net around 30-35 points. He’s exactly what the leafs could use. If Dallas had to add, it wouldn’t be a first. It’s a pretty fair trade as is

Same here. I do my best to take my bias out of these kind of trades. Most of the people on this site are attracted to the flashy stats like Goals, Assists, and Points, but Faksa is one of the better two-way, depth Centers in the league. He's not going to show up a ton in the box score, but is great at shutting down opposing top lines. With guys like Dickinson & Dellandrea likely on the roster next year, I'd be trying to move him for a scoring piece, because anyone with half a brain knows the Stars offense was steaming hot GARBAGE the last couple of years.

Nope leafs can get a 1st for kapenan easily if he is traded at the deadline. He is one of those players playoff teams would love to have and they would pay a 1st for him just look at goodrow

The Leafs already have 3 solid centers. What they could really use is a top 4 RHD.

This trade screams ridiculousness in favor of Toronto. Kapanen himself isn't worth a 1st.
Faksa might not be a point producer, but he is one of the best defensive centers in the game. I'd call him equivalent to Kapanen in value ~ their strengths just differ.

That's fair. And tbh, I know I overdid it in the return going to Toronto. Really wanted to see how Leafs fans gauged Kapanen, and what they thought their needs were.



Stars aren't giving up Robertson. He's 1 of 4 prospects that has a legitimate shot at being an impact player at the NHL level (Dellandrea, Oettinger & Harley being the other 2). Those 4 guys are essentially the entire Stars prospect system. Trading any of them is a massive blow to an already thin farm-system.

Calling Faksa one of the best defensive centers in the game is a huge overstatement (where is his Selke trophy?). Plus Kapanen is pretty good defensively (he even plays on the PK).

We already have Matthews, Tavares and Kerfoot so I'm not sure why we would need yet another 3C...

Kapanen jumps straight into Dallas' top 6 and the Leafs don't even want to trade him (unless it's for a RHD). So if all you offer are pieces that Toronto doesn't really need than it has to be an overpay...

I'd be more than happy keeping 23 year old Kapanen and shipping out Johnsson or Kerfoot for cap space instead.

Kapanen is only moveable if there is a young RHD with term coming back or a significant overpay.



He's the only prospect you guys have that I'd say would interest the Leafs enough to move Kapanen.

I read yesterday that the NHL is going to try for a December start.

The Leafs might like the deal if they can sign Faska at 2.2m, and save 1m cap. The first rounder probably too big of a difference maybe a 2nd. Leafs would still have plenty of quality wingers, maybe even Kerfoot goes to wing. Please don't include Bracco in any NHL trade. As suggested by some, a straight Faska for Johnsson trade might be favourable by both teams. Leaf get a centre and help their cap, and Johnsson can be good and needed winger by the Stars

Kerfoot will most likely be traded. Faska makes more sense as a 3C for the leafs. He’s not as good offensively but much better defensively
